To install your MUZZY exhaust system, carefully remove your stock system by following the procedure outlined in your Can-Am factory service manual. When installing your new system we suggest that you use new exhaust gaskets, available from your Can-Am dealer. When installing your system DO NOT FULLY TIGHTEN any mount bolt or nut until you have carefully aligned all the components and lightly snugged the bolts. Use care when attaching any springs to joints in the system. An exhaust spring tool is recommended. (Available from MUZZYS) NOTE: This exhaust system is a tuned, performance component. A properly mapped/programmed fuel injection tuner is required. These are available from Muzzys. Running this system without a fuel tuner will cause a lean condition that will shorten the life of and/or damage the exhaust system. Installation notes 1. Remove the stock exhaust system. NOTE: Save all the stock hardware as some of it will be re-used to install the new exhaust. 2. Locate the sensor plug on the top left side of the motor. Unplug the sensor and slide the provided fire sleeve over it. Reinstall the plug. Photo 1 3. If an air fuel meter is not being used, apply anti-seize compound to the threads of the provided bung plugs then install the plugs into the bungs of the front and rear head pipes. If a meter is being used, be sure to apply anti-seize compound to the threads of the oxygen sensors prior to installation in the head pipes. HEAD PIPE INSTALLATION 4. Install the front head pipe heat shield using the two hose clamps. Use Photo 2 to reference the location of this heat shield. 5. Insert the stock front exhaust gasket in the port, then install the front head pipe using the stock flange nuts. Do not tighten yet. 6. Make sure the front heat shield is properly positioned where stock components come closest to the head pipe. Adjust the location if necessary. 7. Use the provided cable tie to secure all wires and hoses away from front head pipe. Photo 1A. 8. Install the rear head pipe heat shield using one hose clamp. Use Photo 3 to reference the location of this heat shield. 9. Insert the stock rear exhaust gasket in the port, then install the rear head pipe using the stock flange nuts. Do not tighten yet. 1 1A 2 4 3 Pg. 1 of 4 0320-12 62910 Peerless Ct. • Bend, OR 97701 Phone 541.385.0706 Fax 541.382.9406 10. Make sure the rear heat shield is properly positioned where stock components come closest to the head pipe. Adjust the location if necessary. 11. Install the front collector mid-section onto the Front MufflerBracket front and rear head pipes. Using a spring hook tool and wearing eye protection, secure the pipes with the two exhaust springs. Photo 4 12. Install the short collector extension onto the front collector. Make sure the spring tab is on top. Rear Muffler Bracket Attach an exhaust spring from the front collector to the rear extension spring tabs. Photo 6 13. Install the rear mid section support bracket using the stock upper heat shield bolt. Photos 6 & 6a 14. Using the stock T-bolt clamp, install the rear collector onto the front extension. Leave the T-bolt clamp loose for now. Photo 6 15. Secure the rear collector to the support bracket using the supplied hose clamp. Photo 6 16. Install the front mid section onto the top collector tube. Attach an exhaust spring from the collector to the mid section. 17. Install the rear mid section onto the bottom collector tube. Attach an exhaust spring from the collector to the mid section. MUFFLER INSTALLATION - PHOTOS 5-9 NOTE: Non-permanent thread locking compound is 6a recommended on all muffler bracket bolt threads. Do not apply thread locking compound until the brackets and mufflers have been installed, aligned and properly fitted with sufficient clearances. Then re-install each bolt using thread locking compound (provided). 18. Install the wide muffler bracket to the front of the frame using the supplied 8mm button head allen bolts, washers and lock nuts. (NOTE: The washers and lock nuts go on the bottom of the frame cross piece.) Leave these loose for now. Photo 5 19. Repeat step 18 for the narrow muffler bracket to be mounted on the rear frame cross piece. Photo 5 20. Install the front muffler onto the front mid section. Secure the muffler to the front frame bracket using the supplied 8mm allen bolts and lock nuts. Leave these loose for now. Photo 5 21. Repeat step 20 for the rear muffler to be installed on the rear muffler bracket. Photo 5 22. Attach the remaining exhaust springs from the mid section spring tabs to the muffler spring tabs. Photo 5 23. Carefully align all components and check for proper clearances. Make sure there is sufficient space between the exhaust system and all stock components. Also be sure that both head pipe heat shields are in proper position and the hose clamps are tight. If proper clearances cannot be obtained, DO NOT START THE ENGINE. CONTACT MUZZYS IMMEDIATELY FOR ASSISTANCE. 24. Tighten all hardware beginning with the muffler mounting bolts, followed by the T-bolt clamp and finally the head pipe flange nuts. CVT DUCT HEAT SHIELD INSTALLATION - PHOTO 8 NOTE: A secondary heat shield has been provided to protect the rubber CVT duct that mounts in the stock front heat shield. After proper installation, the design of this shield will maintain airflow over the exhaust system from the CVT duct. You’ll need a rivet tool to properly install this heat shield. 25. Using the new heat shield as a template, mark and drill two 1/8” holes on the bottom of the stock heat shield. Photo 10. 26. Mount the new heat shield with the two rivets provided. 27. Apply the included heat tape to the bottom of the heat shield. 29. Reinstall the stock front heat shield. Make sure there is clearance between the heat shield and the exhaust pipes. 30. Reinstall all stock components removed in step one. Carefully check all clearances to ensure there are no areas of contact between 5 6 Pg. 2 of 4 0320-12 62910 Peerless Ct. • Bend, OR 97701 Phone 541.385.0706 Fax 541.382.9406 the exhaust system and stock components. INSTALLATION - MODULAR SPARK ARRESTER / QUIET CORE CAP You may run your system with either the straight through muffler, the spark arrestor, the quiet core or both the spark screen and the quiet core. Performance will vary based on the configuration you choose. Since these components are easily changed, you may tailor your performance to local conditions. We suggest that you select air/fuel settings that yield the best performance with the muffler configuration you most often run. • • • • 7 drill 1/8” holes The three 6mm Allen bolts allow removal of the end cap. Use a 4mm Allen wrench to remove them. The use of a non-permanent thread locking agent is suggested when installing these bolts. Stock front heat shield Your modular cap assembly consists of a cap and a spark screen and a quiet core. The spacer washers are used only IN PLACE of EITHER the core or screen when one or the other is not used. Use both spacers when leaving the muffler open. When using the quiet core, place it into the muffler first. Then, place either the spark screen (with the tapered end facing inward), on top of the core, or if not using the screen, place the spacer washer on top of the quiet core. Place the cap onto the assembly align the tip and tighten the three bolts. When using the screen but not the quiet core, place the spacer washer into the muffler first, then the screen and then the cap. 8 TUNING AND MAINTENANCE For best results, fuel injection tuner is always recommended. These are available from Muzzys. Call for the latest version if you did not order with your pipe. Check and inspect all exhaust hardware regularly for proper tightness. Remove and clean the spark arrester screens regularly. The muffler canister should be inspected and repacked at regular intervals depending on usage. Repack kits are available from Muzzys.
