Tajikistan has been long famous for
its creative folk craftsmen and
artisans. For centuries they have
created fabrics, pottery, musical
instruments, rugs, furniture, jewelry
and other items. Today many of these
products are considered souvenirs
and are especially appreciated at
international exhibitions. In
Tajikistan, there are dynasties of
craftsmen that transmit the ancient
artforms from generation to
generation. Among the crafts the
most popular in Tajikistan are art
cloths, gold embroidery products,
embroidered items, ribbons, and
decorative wood carvings. Zarduzi
and gulduzi - gold embroidery - are
among the most common types of
Tajik folk crafts. Robes, chapans,
bridal shoes, boskats, skullcaps, and
horse decorations are embroidered
using the gulduzi technique.
History. National embroidery in the
nineteenth century became one of
the most advanced, popular and
prosperous types of folk arts. Tajik
masters decorate clothes with
embroidered patterns. This art has
ancient roots and continues to
evolve. It is used to decorate carpets,
textiles, clothing and souvenirs.
Masters embroider by means of
special needles with cotton, wool and
silk, as well as precious and
semiprecious stones.
