Volleyball
AVP Next Series Zone 3 Debuts, May 16
The 2015 AVPNext Zone 3 beach volleyball series will take place at Bottega Fitness
Park outside Snohomish.
AVPNext is the official developmental program of the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour. It
serves as the exclusive “qualification circuit” for elite amateur players to earn AVP
qualification points, a national ranking, and entry into AVP main draws.
The men’s and women’s series champions of this year’s Zone 3 Series will receive
coveted main draw bids in the AVP Manhattan Beach Open Aug. 14-16 in southern
California. The five-event series expects to attract the best up and coming beach
volleyball players from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Northern California.
15
[AVP Next Series Zone 3 Debuts, May 16 continued]
“Being able to award a main draw bid in the
Manhattan Beach Open is a really big deal,”
said Mati Bishop, the event’s promoter.
He said all of the best players have won the
Manhattan Beach Open including Olympic
gold medalists Misty May-Treanor, Kerri Walsh
Jennings, and Karch Kiraly.
“We are very excited to get the AVPNext series
underway in the Pacific Northwest,” said
Abbey McNamara, AVPNet director. “Snohomish County has proven to be at the
forefront of developing the young beach volleyball player and the AVPNext series gives
those athletes an opportunity to get started on the pipeline to playing at the highest
level of competition in the AVP Tour.”
While to most it seems unlikely that Snohomish County could turn into a beach
volleyball hotbed, the series is timed perfectly to match unprecedented growth in the
sport of beach volleyball.
“Beach (volleyball) is growing faster than any other part of the volleyball community,”
Bishop said.
Beach volleyball is the fastest growing emerging sport in NCAA history. The sport has
experienced double-digit growth each year in the amount of participation through the
USA Volleyball Junior Beach Tour.
For a complete AVPNext Zone 3 schedule and more information go to www.AVPNW.com.
For more information about junior volleyball go to www.BeachVBC.com.
