Blazin` Fiddles – Line up change
Blazin’ Fiddles – Line up change - Press release www.blazinfiddles.com Blazin’ Fiddles are more than a band - they are a philosophy and culture Fans who have seen Blazin' Fiddles before will know that whichever line up you see, you are sure of an uplifting, spirited performance from the finest of Scottish Fiddle players. Each member brings their own style of playing and character to the stage and it's this wonderful combination that makes Blazin' Fiddles the award winning band they are. It also means, when needed, Blazin' Fiddles can undergo a line up change, confident that the ethos of the band will continue. To use a cliché, the band is greater than the sum of its parts. It is with sadness that we announce Iain MacFarlane and Allan Henderson are leaving Blazin' Fiddles. Original members, hand picked by Bruce both have given wonderful service to Blazin' Fiddles over 15 years and they will be missed greatly by audiences and band members. The Trad. Award and new album are testament to their outstanding work with Blazin’ Fiddles. Things move on though and we are delighted to announce our 2 new signings, Rua Macmillan and Kristan Harvey. Many of you will know them already, as they are outstanding fiddle players on the scene. Both are winners of BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year, Rua in 2009 and Kristan in 2011. They also both have Blazin' Fiddles history, having attended Blazin' in Beauly both as participant and performer over the years. Kristan even joined us on stage at Blazin' in Beauly this year having just finished performing with Rod Stewart! We are really excited about the future with this new line up, and hope you'll come and see us when we're in your area. "I'm absolutely delighted to have been asked to join the mighty Blazin' Fiddles! I've loved listening to their music over the years and really don't think I've witnessed a more driving, energetic band on stage. It's a huge honour for me to be joining such a lovely, talented group of musicians, can't wait to get started!" Kristan Harvey. "Not long after I started learning the fiddle, the Blazers had their debut gig and like the rest of the audience I was blown away! Since then the band has provided a constant source of inspiration and encouragement to me and countless other fiddlers, and to now be a part of that is an absolute thrill!" Rua Macmillan The final performance of the current line up will be at Celtic Connections, Glasgow on Friday 31st January at the Old Fruitmarket. The first performance by the new line up will be the Cheltenham Folk Festival, Saturday 15th February. There will be a special Blazin' Fiddles concert in Inverness on 14th March at Eden Court where we hope to have both the old and new lineup performing together. Details in the ‘Gigs’ section on our website. Please join us in wishing Allan and Iain all the best in their future ventures and welcoming Rua and Kristan into the fold.
