Mission Statement
Your Community Foundation of White County inspires people
to strengthen White County through charitable giving.
“I recall when a group of us joined together to discuss forming a
local community foundation. I think that group would be very
proud of what we have today in our Foundation. The Foundation
has accomplished more than we even might have imagined: helping students attend college; assisting communities in beautifying
their downtowns and fixing their parks; encouraging constructive
activities for youth; serving basic needs of women and families;
and building an ever-stronger foundation for the future of White County.”
– Connie Neininger, WCCF Executive Director (1998-2004) and inaugural
chairperson, Women Giving Together Fund committee
“I’ve always seen the Community Foundation as a wonderful vehicle for people to express their appreciation of the community in
a way that perpetuates and strengthens the community. Whether
the arts, social services, education, or whatever, the Foundation offers a fantastic way to knit the community together. For
CDC, an early grant from Lilly Endowment enabled us to build a
long-term, high-quality structure at Chestnut Village, which not
only provided quality housing for people with disabilities but inspiration and
confidence that this first-class approach could be successfully replicated in
other communities.”
– Mike Cruz, CDC Resources Fund and founding WCCF Committee Member
“One of the beautiful parts of our organization is the ability to
celebrate those dedicated, generous individuals and organizations
who have shared a vision for White County’s future. We believe
once people know of the capabilities of the Foundation, the creativity and imagination of our community members will find ways
to solve some of the economic and social issues that plague every
community and thus, make our community a better place to live.”
– Jeffrey A. Milligan, former WCCF Governing Council president
“The Community Foundation is the perfect example of our
residents’ participation in an organization that will be ‘sowing
seeds of hope and growth’ in our community for generations
to come. I would encourage each of us to be a part of the
Foundation, an organization that makes us all proud of this
community and grateful to live here.”
– Katie Wolf, Women Giving Together committee member
and former WCCF Governing Council member
Introducing Your “Community Foundation of White County”
Your community foundation
has a new identity! We are now
the Community Foundation of
White County.
Yes, we’re still your trusted community foundation, and yes, our mission
remains the same. So why the change?
We are a charitable entity totally
committed to our community and our
donors, and now our name puts our
community and its people first and
foremost!
The primary purpose of a community foundation is to promote and facilitate philanthropy – to provide a convenient and knowledge-based bridge
between donors and charities, and to
be a good steward of funds invested
to benefit the community through the
foundation. We are honored by the
trust placed in the Foundation during
our first 15 years and look forward to
serving our donors and community for
many years to come. Thank you for
partnering with us to help strengthen
White County!
$100,000 Commitment
to White County
Youth & Families
In the fall of 2013, after more than
two years of planning, your Community Foundation issued an RFP (Request for Proposals) to address needs
and opportunities to strengthen the
youth and families of our community.
The goal was to fund one or two wellgrounded projects with up to a total of
$100,000 in grant monies.
This $100,000 commitment was
the largest grant opportunity ever
offered by the Foundation – except
the early challenge grants provided
by Lilly Endowment Inc. – and a truly
exciting way to celebrate our 15th
anniversary!
The Foundation was honored
to award
$40,000 to
The Crossing of White
County and
$60,000
to the
Monticello
Parks and
Recreation
Department.
Awards were announced in early
January 2014.
The Crossing’s grant will be used
to help launch the Student-Run Microbusinesses (JTP/Job Training Program) and the Vocational Certification
training program, programs that will
provide opportunities for Crossing
students to experience the real-world
work environment through internships and entrepreneurial activities.
The Foundation recognized this as an
investment in our youth as well as our
workforce, providing a new opportunity to strengthen our community.
When William Altherr died, he left
part of his estate to establish a nature
park in Monticello. The Foundation’s
$60,000 will help build an ampitheatre at this new park, providing
creative opportunities for educational
and
recreational
activities for
students
and families in a relaxed, natural setting. “We’ve always tried to provide a
variety of family activities at our parks,
and we continue to work closely with
area teachers to provide educational,
outside-the-classroom opportunities
for their students. The ampitheatre
will provide even more opportunities
to do those things,” commented Monticello Parks Director Mitch Billue.
These grants were made possible
through distributions from several
youth-focused funds administered
by the Foundation on behalf of their
generous donors, including the Annie
Horton Fund, Robert Smith Fund,
and the Calvert Youth Fund. Distributions were also used from the
White County Community Care Fund,
an unrestricted general fund used for
community grantmaking.
“We are still a relatively small
community foundation, and this grant
commitment has been a big step for
us. We are truly grateful for the many
generous donors who made it possible and for the directors and volunteers of these two organizations, who
unselfishly commit the best of their
time and talents to benefit our White
County community,” commented
CFWC 2014 president Art Dragoo.

2013 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar
Administered by your White County
Community Foundation, the Lilly
Endowment Community Scholarship
Program is designed “to raise the level of
educational attainment in Indiana and
further leverage the ability of Indiana’s
community foundations to enhance the
quality of life of the state’s residents.”
Lilly Endowment scholarships provide
full tuition and fees, plus a book stipend,
for four years at the public or private
accredited Indiana college or university
of the recipient’s choice.
Zedekiah Bickett,
Tri-County
High School
Zed Bickett didn’t
grow up on a farm, but
his lifelong interest in
and commitment to
agriculture will serve
him well as he pursues a degree in Ag
Management at Purdue University. Zed
was in 4-H for 10 years, a member of
Honor Society, Business Professionals
of America, and FFA – holding many
leadership positions – and managed to be
a leader on the baseball and basketball
teams, as well. Zed’s outstanding
commitment to family, education and
community is truly inspiring and most
worthy of being named a White County
Lilly Scholar.
Additional 2012 Finalists
were Jamie Adair, Ashley Hall, Lacey
Hendress, Kaylee LaOrange, Jacob
Layton, Chloe McAchren, Morgan
Michalski, and Karson Quarles.

New Funds Established in 2013
Life with Linda
Memorial Fund
Linda Fain was passionate – about her family, her
friends, her community, and
the power of philanthropy.
She believed that every one
of us has the ability, opportunity, and responsibility to do good things
and to make a positive difference in the lives
of those around us. To celebrate her life, her
family established the Life with Linda Memorial Fund, assuring that Linda Fain’s legacy of
giving will continue forever.

Blues at the Barn Fund
For several years, a group of friends has
hosted an evening of great music for other
music-loving friends. This year, they opened
a fund to provide a vehicle for their guests to
support music programs in our schools, funding for which continues to diminish. Generous
donors made possible grants of $625 to each of
our four county schools this fall.
James “Jim” Krintz
Memorial Fund
Jim Krintz died in December of 2013, but
his lifelong commitment to youth and 4-H will
live on through the scholarship his family created in his memory. The first scholarship was
awarded at the White County 4-H Fair in July.
Magnetation
Community Fund
White County is thrilled that Magnetation,
a company based in Minnesota, chose to locate
its newest plant in our own Reynolds, Indiana.
Along with that commitment came a desire to
be a philanthropic partner in the community,
and the Foundation is honored to work with
Magnetation to address its charitable initiatives.
WCCF Funds and Financials
Your Community Foundation is honored to partner with so many people who believe so strongly in our community and
the impact charitable giving can have on its well-being. We are grateful for the opportunity to help donors turn their
charitable passions into gifts that will benefit their chosen causes . . . forever.

CFWC Legacy Society
Legacies are created every day – in relationships with family and friends, in smiles given and
received by invaluable volunteers, and in a myriad of other intangible, wonderful ways.
Have you ever considered creating a more tangible legacy? One that will still be here 25 or 50
years from now?
The Community Foundation of White County’s Legacy Society recognizes those individuals
whose estate plans include a gift to benefit the community through the Foundation.
Estate gifts may be designated to existing endowments or used to create new endowments to
support your charitable interests…forever. If you wish, gifts can be designed to engage your
family in the philanthropic grantmaking process, providing a meaningful opportunity to teach
the next generation about the power of philanthropy.
Our Legacy Society enables us to thank you for your gift while you are still living and to discuss
particular wishes for your gift. All conversations are confidential, and if you wish, you may be
listed as an “Anonymous” member of our Legacy Society.
We thank these generous Legacy Society members for their commitment to our community:

legacy and to welcome you to our Legacy Society!
