or are brand new to our program, we welcome you and
thank you for making circus a part of your life.
This guide is specific to the Winter Session and all of the

The classes listed in the guide are ONLY our “Best
Bets” classes—those are the classes in which we
currently have space to accommodate more students.
While all of our students have the option to request any
class in the online system, we recommend taking a look at these narrowed
down options as a good starting point for those who have not yet been
enrolled, or who are looking to add to their current class roster. For a complete
listing of classes and a general overview of our year round programming,
please refer to the new interactive Class Finder tool on our website that helps
to sort class options based on a variety of filters.
Our staff is always happy to help chat through class options and explain the
many facets of our circus world. Please don’t hesitate to contact us!
The online registration deadline is Tuesday, November 10 at 5pm!

Everything New at Circus Juventas
WELCOME GUEST ARTISTS
We are excited to announce these international circus
performers that will be visiting CJ classes in the coming weeks! More info to be sent closer to
their arrival date.
We welcome them to Circus Juventas!
Dmitrii & Ekaterina Arnaoutova
As previously announced in the Fall Session guide, we are proud to have
these two prestigious Circus professionals visiting us this year (they are
father and daughter, too!) Dmitrii’s career spans more than six decades
and his daughter, Ekaterina (Katya) has been traveling and working with
her family since the age of two.
In 2003, Dmitrii created his own company: Cirque Nouvel Air, which
offered circus performances for corporate events and galas around the
world, and in which Katya was the feature performer. Dmitrii was the head
coach of the renowned show Corteo for Cirque du Soleil and is presently
part of the creative team for the new Cirque du Soleil show Toruk. Katya is
an independent performer specializing in Hoops and Straps.
What an honor to have them work with our CJ students.
(The picture on the right is Dmitrii and Katya performing together!)
Lin Jun Ming (Chinese acrobat) started training in the acrobatic
arts in 1987 when he was just 8 years old with the Fujian Acrobatics Troupe in China.
Within the past 20 years, he has trained in traditional Chinese acrobatic arts, including
Chinese Pole, chair-balancing, hoop diving, Chinese Lion Dance, partner
hand-balancing, hand- juggling, foot-juggling, Russian Swing, Russian Bar and
Ultimate Wheel. His juggling performance was awarded the Silver Lion Prize at the
fourth China National Acrobatic Competition in 1995. He also holds the former world
record for juggling 12 rings. He will be visiting CJ classes in December!
Victor Narkevich
(Belarusian acrobat) began
working with the Great Moscow National Circus
as a leading performer on Teeterboard and
Trampoline, where he later became a creator and
coach. He broke the world record for triple back
somersault from one Teeterboard to another and
was a prize winner at three International World
Circus Festivals. He worked as an Acrobatics
coach with Cirque du Soleil on their show Kooza
and currently works as an artistic gymnastics,
Trampoline and Tumbling Head Coach. Victor
will be visiting CJ in November!
New Coach,
Gregg Nelson
Online Class
Finder
A new feature on our CJ
website!
Some of you may have already utilized the “Find a
Class” page on our CJ website this past fall. You can narrow down class options by genre, age, day of the week, or
search for a specific act. This is also a useful way to narrow
down “Best Bet” options for winter session. You can even
“add to class planner” to create a full, printable list of the
classes you want to take. Please note, this feature is just a
TOOL to utilize when putting together your student’s
schedule and is NOT actually registering your
student for the class. You can browse the Class
Finder on our website here.
5
Gregg is working with our
Acrobatic and Hand Balancing
classes. Learn more about Gregg’s
background below.
Gregg Nelson was born and raised in Bloomington,
MN, where he competed in all around gymnastics and
accomplished state finishes in Rings, Floor Exercise,
Parallel Bars, Trampoline, High Bar and Side Horse. Similar
to our co-founders Dan and Betty Butler, he discovered
“sawdust in his blood” during his time at the Sarasota Sailor
Circus in Florida. He performed tumbling, adagio, hand
balancing, dual teeterboard, low casting, clowning, cradle to
cradle and caught high trapeze. Since then, Gregg has
coached numerous student sports in the local community.

Love & Friendship
Love & friendship of all kinds have the ability to unite people across
generations, geography & ideologies. They are the building blocks of
humanity, the emotions that set us apart from the rest of the animal
kingdom. They inspire us to create and connect… and also sometimes
to destroy and despair. Such is the power of these monumental
concepts in our lives.
Tickets Go On Sale: March 21, 2016 ~ exact time TBD
Basic Information for all Spring Show Performers:
 Costumes are $75.00 per performing class/act and are paid
with Winter Session registration. Accessories such as fishnets
and shoes are determined later and are billed with Spring Session registration (where applicable).
 If you are registered for a performing class, we assume you are
performing UNLESS you tell us otherwise. Please let us know
by December 19 with an email to [email protected].
 Students are measured for costumes the first week of Winter
Session classes. If you miss class during this week, please contact Rhiannon to set up an appointment before December 19:
[email protected].
 Pencil in ALL Spring Show dates: Show Teams are shared
at the Parent Meeting in February. Please note, students taking
more than one class and/or families with more than one student in performing classes are likely to have more than one
show team assignment.
 Heads up: many acts require additional Saturday practices to
prepare for the show during the Spring Session. The schedule
of specific acts and their practice days/times will be available
at the Parent Meeting in February.
This important informational meeting about the Spring
Show is not only where you’ll find out which SHOW
TEAM(s) your student will perform in this year, but also
includes ticket buying details, show day procedures and
volunteer opportunities. This meeting is especially helpful
for new families, but is also a great reminder for everyone
who has a student performing in the Spring Show.

Tickets Go On Sale: June 27, 2016 ~ exact time TBD
Curiouser and curiouser. Should you take a trippy trip down the hole of an impatient
rabbit with a pressing deadline? It’s the maddest of tea parties, indeed, but be sure
you are on time, whatever that may mean. Swing from the moon with a cat who’s not
quite all there. Hang with the chillest blue caterpillar in the land. Fly with
Dodos and Mad Queens and Hatters-oh my. We’re all mad here. Follow Alice to a
land of riddles, poems, and wonder, but beware, not everything in Wonderland is
wonderful. Hop through the wrong tree and you could find yourself swirling in a
pool of tears or scorched by the vicious Jabberwock. Make the wrong move, and you
might just lose your head. This summer at CJ, it’s check and mate, and you do not
want to be late for this very important date.

Progressing Through the Program
Most of our students join the program in Fall Session and continue on throughout the year, but we do have a handful of students
who join us for winter. If you’re looking for advice on what class to take, whether you’re returning from fall or brand new this
session, take a look at the scenarios below.
Scenario 1: Julie from Circus Experience
Julie took Circus Experience this fall and is now ready to move into more
specialized training (not to mention: she REALLY wants to perform).
While she isn’t eligible for some of the acts she tried in Circus Experience
(she doesn’t meet the age or skill pre-requisites) there are many she is
eligible to take! Which class should Julie sign up for?
Step One: Determine her interests (what act(s) did she enjoy during
the Circus Experience class?)
Step Two: Check out the “Best Bets” for classes that may have space
(pages 11-17)
Step Three: Make her class selection! Remember to keep in mind
age and skills pre-requisites.
Keep in mind: the experience classes are sampler classes designed to allow students the opportunity to try many acts. Some of
these acts are considered intermediate or advanced, so students are NOT eligible to specialize in them without many more years of
training. As an example, Julie may have done a trick or two on hoops during her Circus Experience class, but she will not be able
to take hoops classes until she has trained in other aerial acts for at least 2-3 years.
Scenario 2: Charlie, New Student
Charlie is joining Circus Juventas for the first time this
Winter Session. What are his class options?
Scenario 3: Sam
from Kinders
Sam, who was five years
old when he signed up for
classes this fall, has now
turned six. Since it’s the
change of session, Sam’s
parents are thinking he
might be better off
switching into the Youth
Program for winter, but
they’re not sure.
What should Sam do?
Sam should stay
in the Kinders
class for the rest
of the year. He
can start in the
Youth Program
summer or
fall of 2016.
Scenario 4: Melissa, Class
Move Up
Melissa has been training at Circus for many
years. This fall, she moved into higher levels
in both her contortion and her triple trapeze
class, but was unable to move up in Spanish
web or silks. She would like to move up for
Winter Session: is this possible?
Experience Class: If Charlie would first like the
opportunity to try a little bit of everything, one of the
Experience classes would be a good place to start.
Performing Class: Charlie is just as eligible as any
other student to sign up for a specialty performing class.
He just needs to meet the age and skills requirements.
Non-Performing Class: He can also specialize, but
not perform! These classes are noted in the class pages.
8
Most of the move ups within acts happen at
the start of Fall Session, but that isn’t always
the case. If Melissa would like to be
considered for move ups, she can certainly
indicate that when she goes to register. Our
coaches evaluate every student based on
skills and space availability.
How to Use Our Class Pages
There is an abundance of information in the following pages, and sometimes it can get overwhelming. Never fear: we are here to
help! The information below highlights the important components and explains how to decipher the information,
quickly and accurately!

I’m Interested! Tell Me More. FAQs about Toddlers and Kinders:
What equipment do they work with?
All kinds, including hoops, trampoline, juggling, trapeze, tumbling, vault mini, mini hammock and low wire! The
skills they learn coincide with their development, so Kinders get to do a bit more than the Toddlers do.
Am I allowed to be in class with my child?
Sometimes the first week can be tough for our youngest students: during this transition, parents can be permitted to work with their child on the floor. Once they get in the groove, parents are encouraged to participate less.
How do I know if my child is ready for this program?
We really leave it up to our parents to use their best judgment: after all, you know your child best. Please note:
our general policy is not to offer class refunds but you can come check out our facilities before committing to
class.
Does my child have to perform?
Not necessarily, but by spring session most of the class time is committed to working on the show routine, so your student will have to
take that session off or switch to the non-performing class (if in the Toddlers program).
How much does it cost?
Toddler and Kinder classes are $210 per session. Additional costs are associated with performing.
How do I get signed up?
If you’re brand new to Circus, you need to fill out the Pre-Registration Form online. This is how we collect information on your student
(as well as get you onto our mailing list). Once registration opens up, log into the system and get signed up: it’s that simple!
What can I do to make sure my child gets placed into class?
Two things: first, get your registration in sooner than later. Second, list as many class day/time options as can fit into your schedule
(first, second, third choice options). If we can’t get you into your first choice, we will work extra hard to put you into your second or
third!

I’ve Taken an Experience Class: What Comes Next?
What did you like the most? What did your student enjoy most in the variety of acts offered throughout his/her
experience class? Look to a more specific act in the genre or act-type of that act so that the training can become more concentrated
on what he/she enjoyed.
Look at the options in the session guide! Find any of the beginning level classes (highlighted in GREEN)
throughout the guide. We’ve listed class descriptions and pre-requisites to help determine what each act has to offer. There is also
our new Class Finder that offers selections for narrowing down options based on a variety of filters.
Talk to the admin staff ! Our administrative staff is always here to help and can also be a great conduit for
gathering feedback from the coaches. Need help remembering what that circular, aerial contraption was called? We can help you
figure it out in addition to answering any number of questions you may have about the program. Remember, Betty is also a great
resource to provide guidance with moving through the various levels of our program, too. The staff can help to set up a meeting
with her for consultation.

Aerial
Promotes muscular development,
agility and discipline
Aerial performance promotes agility, discipline, and grace.
What distinguishes our aerial acts is the use of hanging
equipment or aerial apparatuses on which students learn to
maneuver both vertically and horizontally. When people think
of aerial circus, they often think of trapeze, but our repertoire
goes beyond that to include, ropes, fabric, bungees, and other
creative apparatuses!

Cross Training
Cross training is an essential part of training
at both the intermediate and advanced level. These classes are designed for
students who want to push themselves
further and harder and progress faster
throughout the program. Pay close attention
to the pre-reqs, as not all classes are
for everyone.

Still Have Questions? Answers Below!
I’m a brand new student.
How to do I register?
If you’ve never registered for classes at CJ,
registration is a two step process:
Step 1: Complete the pre-registration process
online. This is how we collect general
information on your student and create an
account for you. This does need to be
completed per student, not per family. Click
here to pre-register!
Step 2: You will be notified via email once
registration opens. Once you get word, login
and register! (Username and password
provided) Click here to register!
Once registration opens,
how soon should I register?
As soon as possible! Returning students get
registration priority over new students, but we
do TRY to get everyone into at least one class.
Every registration is date and time stamped, so
getting it in early is important!
What happens if I don’t get into
any classes?
In the unlikely event that we are unable to place
you, we will process a full tuition refund (the
registration fee will NOT be refunded).
What happens if I get into class, but
change my mind about participating:
what is your cancellation policy?
What happens if I miss class one
(or many) week(s)?
If you miss class, you miss class. Because we try
to keep our student to coach ratio very specific,
we don’t allow for “drop ins”. We will, however,
schedule make up classes if we, as an
organization, need to cancel (mostly for weather related reasons). To be honest, this rarely
happens (this is Minnesota, after all) so plan on
being here every week!
I want to talk to somebody about how
best to move through the program.

Do I have to register online?
We do ask that everyone use the online
registration system. If you don’t have easy
access to a computer, you are more than
welcome to stop by CJ and use one of ours!
What do I do if I want to change my
registration after it’s been submitted?
Send us an email and we will make the changes
for you! Please note our policy regarding
these requests: For every change request you
make after submission, you will be charged
$25.00. Our staff is too small to track an
abundance of changes, so take your time and do
it right the first time.
How long does it take to hear back from
you guys once my requests are in?
Turn around time is anywhere between 7-10
days (remember: few of us, LOTS of you). Any
correspondence done during and after the
process will come via email, so PLEASE make
sure the email you have listed on your account
is accurate and checked often. If you are
contacted with a registration question it’s
most helpful for us if you respond via email

not further delay the process.

Can someone explain the “registration priority” process to me?
Certainly! Because we serve over 900 students (and are currently at capacity), we have developed over the years a comprehensive way of handling
the nearly 3,000 class requests we get every session:
Step 1: Students returning from the previous session (Fall 2015) are guaranteed enrollment in the same class(es) they were taking (if they are
choosing to return)
Step 2: Students returning from the previous session (Fall 2015) requesting NEW classes are given priority for open spots
Step 3: Students returning from a session prior to Fall 2015 are placed into classes before new students
Step 4: New students are placed into classes
The steps above only apply to the process if class requests are submitted BY the registration deadline. Once that deadline comes and goes, requests
are evaluated solely on a first come first served basis.
The registration deadline is: Tuesday, November 10 at 5pm! Click here to register!
Now don’t get discouraged! Just because you don’t have the “first priority” that does NOT mean that we will be unable to place you. But that IS a
reason to get your registration submitted sooner than later.
