HandicappedPets.com was created in
2001 to support the caretakers of elderly,
injured and handicapped pets. We have
all of the products, services and support

Mercedes, a slightly epileptic Keeshond
who was put to sleep before her time
because Mark didn’t know any better
and had no way to find out more. Now
there’s a way.

A Letter from
HandicappedPets.com Founder
To All Pet Lovers and Caretakers,
There was a day when injured pets were “no good anymore.”
When an animal was hurt, became lame or incontinent, or was
for any reason no longer wanted, they were put down.
Not anymore.
We are becoming more aware of the sacredness of all life.
We are beginning to understand the power of the loving bond
that is created when one living thing cares for another. Our
pets have become family members and deserve to be loved,
respected, and cherished.
The purpose and mission of HandicappedPets.com is to help
people learn that there are alternatives to euthanasia. An
elderly, disabled, or injured pet can often live a high quality
life for many years if they get the little help that they need;
diapers, a rear-support leash, or a wheelchair.
I created the site in the memory of a Keeshond, Mercedes. She
was put to sleep at a vet’s advice after being diagnosed with
a mild form of canine epilepsy. Years later, a dear friend, was
diagnosed with a mild form of epilepsy for which she takes
a pill now and then to completely eliminate all symptoms.
The disparity between the two reactions to the same disease
was unacceptable. I created the site to give caretakers the
information they need to make the difficult, loving decisions
that face them.
The site is filled with stories of hope and healing as well
as the products, services, and support that a caretaker of a
handicapped pet needs. The discussion area contains nearly
80,000 messages from people helping one another. The forum
is managed by the MBMT (Message Board Management
Team) a group of dedicated volunteers who keep the board
friendly, informative, and relevant. The gallery has photos
and stories submitted by caretakers. Listings of caring vets,
animal rehabilitation centers, holistic healers, and animal
communicators, and more are all available.
Particularly touching to me is the 4th grade teacher, Kathy
Barton, in Velma, Oklahoma who introduces her class
each year to her handicapped pets and raises money to buy
wheelchairs for dogs that they find on the site. Not only are
these children learning about compassion for animals, but also
about compassion for all life.
The most common reaction we get from people when they
hear about the site is “If only I had known about you before I
put my dog to sleep...” We need to reach people. We need to
tell them that there are alternatives.

SAFETY
PRODUCTS
5 Reasons Why Your Dog Should Wear a
Pet Safety Belt.
1.DISTRACTION
Pets can be a distraction when they are not properly
restrained and interfere with a driver’s ability to control the vehicle.
Help prevent driver distraction by keeping your pet safe and secure
with a seatbelt.
Now
Only
$19.95
2.IMPACT
Pets that are not wearing seatbelts can become projectiles in the event of a car accident.
Even slamming on the brakes could cause your pet to become a projectile. Your pet could
become severely injured and/or cause severe harm to another person upon impact or by
being thrown from the vehicle.
3.CONTROL
Even the most well trained pets could potentially jump from the car window or car door in pursuit of another animal
or in anticipation of their destination. Keep your pet safely in the car for the
duration of your trip by using a safety belt.
4.COMFORT
It is simply more enjoyable to travel when everyone in the vehicle, both people
and pets, have their own personal space. Buckle up your pet for everyone’s
comfort.
5.EMERGENCY
When pets are in car accidents, they can become confused, fearful or aggressive. Such traumatic responses could
result in pets running away in fear or becoming aggressive while rescue personnel are responding. Use a pet safety
belt to keep your dog restrained.
Pet Safety is No Accident
HandicappedPets.com wants you and your pet to be safe while traveling on the road.
As an added incentive for owners to buckle up their pets for safety, we have
reduced the price of our pet safety belts.

By safely securing your pet, you can prevent him or her from becoming a distraction that could cause you to lose
control of your vehicle. Should an accident occur, the pet safety belt will also keep your companion securely in
place; thereby reducing the likelihood of injury and ensuring that your pet does not wander away from the accident
scene. Please see page 14 for sizing chart.
Buckle up for your pet’s sake and yours!
Thank you so much for the pet safety belts. Enclosed is a photo of our two
Samoyeds, Casey and Callie, with my husband Paul, modeling their new
safety belts.
We absolutely love the product! In addition, we know our two rascals are
safe when they ride with us now.

Eat Slow Dog Bowl
Slow Your Pet Down! If you let your dog eat too fast, you risk health complications like GDV or Bloat. Slowing
them down also reduces re-eating and associated problems. The Eat-Slow dog food bowl prevents this.
• Helps reduce the risk of Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus (GDV or 'Bloat')
• Slower eating makes an animal feel more full and reduces instances of 're-eating'
• Veterinarian tested and recommended
• Works with kibble or canned food
• Safe, no-tip shape
• Durable, dishwasher safe plastic

A nylon, supportive rear end leash-harness designed
to help animals with broken bones, arthritis, dysplasia,
or any other skeletal or muscular problems. It allows
the animal to perform bodily functions (urinate and
defecate) unencumbered, while being supported by a
person who lifts a portion of the animal's weight at a
90-degree angle from the top of the back, in front of
the tail area. It works by taking the animal's weight
off its hind legs. The animal will still go through the
walking motion, but you will be supporting a portion
of their weight.
Sorry, but for hygiene reasons this product is not returnable after
the package has been opened.
Package includes : 1 Leash and 2 Sheepy Sleeves.
The Sheepy Sleeve is a soft, padded sleeve (optional)
which fits over the leg loops on the leash. The sleeve
is washable and is made of 100% Neoprene material.

Dear Mark,
I had been searching on the internet for some sort
of brace, etc for our 13 yr old dog who is losing
use of her one back leg. I was happened upon
your site and I am glad that I did !!!! I checked
out your RearEnd Support leash, ordered one and
received it on Monday, Jan. 5. She adapted to it
immediately !! We walked her in the house for a
few minutes, but she made a bee-line for the back
door to go outside!! Thank you so much from
the bottom of our hearts. What a blessing this
is. We don’t know at her age how much longer
she has, and it was breaking our hearts not to be
able to take her walking anymore....something
she has always loved to do. Freedom at last ! Sincerely, Tom & Bonnielynn Brankey

First Ever
Courtney Dunning and her dog Lucy
pictured here at the summit of Mount Washington on August
18, 2010 after climbing the 7.6 mile Mount Washington Auto
Road. The hike began at 5:28 a.m. and was completed six hours
and two minutes later at 11:30 a.m. Lucy, a 4-year old mixed
breed that was rescued from the streets of Puerto Rico after being
paralyzed in an auto collision, is the first ever dog in a wheelchair
to reach the summit of the highest peak in the Northeast.
Lucy is a very high energy, active dog that has
been using her Walkin’ Wheels dog wheelchair
since 2008. HandicappedPets.com donated
the Walkin’ Wheels to Lucy shortly after she
was adopted and arrived in New Hampshire.
The company learned that she had a used
dog wheelchair that had been custom made
for another dog and did not fit her well. With
the fully adjustable Walkin’ Wheels, Lucy was
immediately more comfortable and mobile with a
dog wheelchair that fit her properly.

Lucy demonstrates how handicapped pets can continue to lead
happy, healthy, active lives. The Walkin’ Wheels dog wheelchair
allows dogs to do more than simply survive injuries that were
once considered life ending. With appropriate veterinary care
and physical training, dogs in wheelchairs can thrive and even
reach high levels of athletic achievement.
Since her historic climb, Lucy is continuing to lead an active life
with her family. Now six years old, she regularly takes to the
sidewalks and trails in her Walkin’ Wheels and also enjoys games
of fetch and time spent chasing squirrels. Lucy has her own page
on Facebook where you can watch a video and see pictures of her
journey at Facebook.com/DogWheelchairLucy.

The Veterinarian
Approved
Walkin’
®
Wheels design is
unique.
It is the only dog wheelchair of its kind. Made of
extruded aluminum, this versatile easy-to-use dog
wheelchair is convenient, ships same day, comes
fully assembled, and adjusts with the snap of a
button for a perfect fit -- every time.
Custom made dog wheelchairs have been around for decades. If made correctly, a custom made dog wheelchair
will fit precisely and function well. However, there are
a number of limitations to custom made dog wheelchairs
that can impact a dog’s quality of life.
Since custom dog wheelchairs require complex measurements and time for construction, a dog cannot be back
on his or her feet as quickly as possible. Similarly, if
the dog’s health or body size changes, a custom made
cart cannot be adjusted to accommodate these changes.
Custom dog wheelchairs are also cumbersome and
frequently require complex disassembly in order to fit
into the trunk of a car and cannot be easily transported
or stored.
Dog wheelchairs that are custom made for a particular
dog often cannot be returned to the manufacturer nor
can they be easily adjusted to fit a different size dog.
The lack of adjustability is particular problematic for
a growing dog with mobility problems. A paralyzed
puppy could require three or four different custom built
wheelchairs before it becomes an adult dog.
Walkin’ Wheels, the leader in dog wheelchairs, solves
ALL of these problems in a sporty, convenient, great
value piece of equipment.
Adjustable – The wheelchair adjusts, without tools, to
fit any size dog.
Fast – Ships same day. Next day delivery available in
most areas.
Easy – Instruction Book, DVD, and call-in support is
always available.
Folds Flat – So it can be carried easily. Even comes
with a tote bag.
Guaranteed – Our liberal Return Policy lets you send it

Looks Great – Professionally extruded aluminum,

available in blue and pink. Your dog will wear it proudly.
Easy to Service – All parts are easily replaceable so the
dog wheelchair can last a lifetime.
Holds Value – When you no longer need it, you can resell it or donate it for use on any other dog.
Since it was introduced in 2008, the Walkin’ Wheels has
become the world leader in dog wheelchairs.
Walkin’ Wheels – How it Works.
There are two styles of Walkin’ Wheels – Walkin
Wheels Mini: Dachshunds and dogs weighing approx.
20 lbs or less.
Walkin Wheels: for dogs weighing approx. 20 lbs
or more. Both begin with a universal frame which is
adjustable in height, width, and length. Then, snap-in
wheels from 4” to 16” allow a perfect fit for all sizes.
Front Wheel Attachment: This attractive and fully
supportive set of
caster wheels can be
purchased immediately
when ordering a
Walkin’ Wheels dog
wheelchair or added
on later as the dog’s
need for front leg
support increases. For
rehabilitative use,
the front wheels can
be detached from the
frame as a dog recovers and no longer requires four
wheeled support.
The larger wheels come in foam and pneumatic. Foam
tires are for general use. Pneumatic, air filled tires are
great for off-road, rough terrain, and heavy-duty use.
When the tires wear out, just snap in a new set.

Digit is a little miracle. The Walkin’ Wheels Mini dog
wheelchair has been a blessing.
At first, he was a little

day, he chased his toy!
After three weeks, Digit

His condition has
improved greatly. He
is still a little wobbly,
but he is now walking,
running, doing his business and trying to have his way

him recover.

To measure the width of your dog’s foot, place the foot on a piece of paper and press down on
the top of the foot, mimicking how the foot spreads when the dog’s walking.
Mark the left and the right side of the foot on the paper and measure the distance between the
marks. Compare this to the boot sizes. The width of the foot should be smaller than the boot
size. For example, if the foot width is 1 1/2 inches, order an XXSmall at 1 3/4 inches.

Fold of Flank Measurement of a Dog for a Wheelchair
To measure the height of a dog for our Walkin Wheels,
measure from the ground to the “Fold of the Flank” as
shown here. The Fold of the Flank (FOF) is a thin piece
of skin that connects the dog’s upper rear leg to his body.
Look at the webbing between your thumb and index
finger. This skin is very similar to the fold of flank (FOF).
Note: If your dog is overweight, then the fold of flank will probably hang
down from his body, making the fold of flank measurement shorter than it
really is. You will need to try and move the flank up to a normal position, to get an accurate measurement.
Dog Wheelchairs range in price from $249.00 to $499.
Ground Shipping costs from $20 - $40. Order early and we’ll ship same day.
The cost depends on how tall the dog is and whether you choose the optional pneumatic
air tires. This is all determined automatically by our “Dog Wheelchair Wizard”. Just enter the weight and fold of
flank of the dog online at our website or provide it by telephone at 888-811-7387.
The dog cart comes with an adjustable frame and snap-in wheels. Dachshunds and dogs under 20 lbs typically use
the “Mini” frame.

Caring for a handicapped pet is a rich and rewarding experience.
Although some people are daunted by the idea at first, caretakers
quickly realize that the few minor adjustments that they need to

We want to make your shopping experience excellent
and, with the exception of the Walkin’ Wheels dog
wheelchair (which has some special conditions described below in the section marked Walkin’ Wheels
Warranty Return Policy), are glad to give full credit
for products returned that are in like new, resell-able
condition. Obviously, you would not pay full price for
an item with dog hair on it. We will offer you a full
refund under these conditions:
Full Refund - Like New - To Qualify for a full refund,
try garments on your pet over a tee shirt. Try boots on
over a sock. Products that qualify for a full refund are
ones that were tried on once, over a sock or tee shirt,
didn’t fit, were repackaged and returned in 14 days.
There is no hair, fur, dirt, soil, or smell on the product.
The product is in its original packaging, folded as
delivered. If you carefully removed staples to open
the package, DO NOT re-staple it. We will take care
of that.
Partial Refund - Cleanable. The product was tried on
once, but a tee shirt or sock was not used and there
are a few hairs on it. If we feel that we can restore the
product to “new” by cleaning it, you will be charged a
20%-50% restocking charge depending on the amount
of cleaning & repacking necessary.
Partial Refund - Discountable. The product was tried
on once and was slightly soiled or scratched. It is still
in good condition, but is no longer new. If your return
cannot be brought to ‘new condition’ we will offer
you a refund and re-sell the product as used at a discount. The refund is usually between 25% and 75%.
No Refund - If the product has been used, soiled, our
staff feels it’s just too gross to clean, or is otherwise
not resellable, we will consider donating the product
to a shelter. If you specify, we will donate the product
in your pet’s name. Items ordered from other companies through HandicappedPets.com (Carts, Ramps,
Steps, etc.) are warrantied through the manufacturer
and cannot be returned to HandicappedPets.com.
Your Options - If you send a product back to us, you
may specify that the product be returned to you if a
refund is not available. You will be asked to pay shipping. If you decide to refuse the package we will need
to charge you for the return shipping.
Items to be returned to manufacturer - Ramps, Custom
Carts, Steps, and selected other items need to be
returned directly to the manufacturer. Call us if you’re
not sure. If these items are accidentally returned to us,
you will be charged shipping to the manufacturer or
back to you.

& Suv Seat Covers
Items that cannot be returned - Bottoms Up Leash
(Rear End Support Leash) & Diapers (including
Mr.Peepers Wraps), Bowls, Couch Protector, and any
item that has been soiled cannot be returned.

The Handicapped
Pets Foundation
The Handicapped Pets Foundation
is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation
dedicated to the health and wellbeing of elderly, disabled, and
injured pets. The Handicapped
Pets Foundation was created to
help people who could not afford
mobility equipment for their pets.
Applications are accepted from all
around the world and are approved
on the basis of demonstrated
financial need.
Dog wheelchairs and other mobility
equipment are purchased from
manufacturers that are willing to
provide the foundation a significant
discount of the product. Grants
of wheelchairs have been made to
dogs, cats, rabbits and more!
Donations can be made to a specific
pet currently in need or to support
any future grant of mobility
equipment for an applicant in need.
Donations received in the name of
a particular pet will be directed to
Help
that pet until the level of support
required for fully sponsoring that
animal is reached. Should donations
beyond the level of support required
to sponsor a particular pet be
received in his or her name, those
contributions will be directed to
others that have been approved into
the program.
For Eva
Read all about the animals that the
foundation has helped at
www.hpets.org
Since Eva's family does not have a pool, they decided
to investigate whether a dog wheelchair could assist
Eva. Her veterinarian agreed that it would be a good
idea and would help Eva get the exercise she needed.
We welcome your support and thank
you for making a difference in the
lives of handicapped pets!
Eva is a nine month Labrador retriever who was
born without fully developed hips. Her veterinarian
recommended low impact exercise such as swimming
to build Eva's muscles while not bearing too much
weight on her weak legs.
The Handicapped Pet Foundation
was incorporated as a nonprofit
501(c)(3) so that people who
contribute time and money know
exactly how their resources are
being used. It is a safe, taxdeductible way that you can help.
Eva is a faithful companion to her owner - a veteran
who recently served two tours in Iraq. Facing
financial difficulties and still awaiting compensation
from the Department of Veterans Affairs, Eva's
owner turned to the Handicapped Pets Foundation for
assistance.
The Handicapped Pets Foundation was honored to
provide assistance by granting Eva's owner a Walkin'
Wheels for Handicapped Pets. Now, she is getting the
exercise she needs to maintain strength in her rear legs.
