History of palegars: At a glance
After Rayalaseema districts came under the British rule as
ceded districts, palegars refused to share the revenue with the
British. The Collector of the ceded district, Thomas Monroe,
took a serious view of the rebellion and ordered the capture of
Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy, palegar of Koikuntla. He was
hanged to death in public. However, after the incident, the
British did not hound palegars, who were around 80 in the
region.
In the pre-independent days, palegars conducted private
courts and were law unto themselves. Dosakayala Venkata
Subba Reddy used to conduct court every day at 10 a.m. and
judgments delivered by him had no appeal. In some areas
palegars encouraged their private armies to indulge in
dacoities and had a major share in the booty.

Finger millet (Eleusine coracana L.) also known as Ragi in India is one of the important cereals which occupies the highest
area under cultivation among the small millets.
Ragi for weight loss: Ragi contains an amino acid, Tryptophan which reduces appetite.
Ragi for bones: Ragi is the richest source of calcium among plant foods. Calcium along with vitamin D helps to
strengthen bones. It is an excellent source of natural calcium for children and aging people. It helps in development of
bones in growing children and in maintenance of bone
Ragi for diabetics: Regular consumption of finger millet is known to reduce the risk of diabetes mellitus and
gastrointestinal tract disorders and these properties are attributed to its high polyphenol and dietary fiber content.
