So we’re in the final quarter and with this time of year students start to think school is done, over, finished . . . you get
the idea. Homework, as well as school work, becomes a little
lax plus behaviors begin to flare up that we haven’t seen
before now. Please continue to help your child complete their
homework, read, and follow a nightly routine during these
last nine weeks of school as valuable learning needs to occur.
Also, this time of year provides many opportunities for
outdoor learning such as field trips, so reminders will be sent
home when these special days are planned. We appreciate
your support and partnership in helping your child do their
very best in school.
Happy Spring Break to all of you!
Sincerely in Education,
Mrs. Voxland, Principal
If your child will be unable to attend school, please
contact the Student Services’ Office (attendance/nurse)
directly at 335-0305. Thank you.

2013 Testing Dates
It is important your child be present at school
on the following dates:
PAWS Writing: April 23—April 26
Spring MAP Testing: April 29-May 10
Please plan any medical appointments around these dates
as make-up sessions are difficult to schedule.
Baldwin Creek Elementary School P.I.E. Meeting
March 4, 2013
There were 7 people in attendance.
Mrs. Henderson was present to discuss a fundraising idea utilizing Shutterfly. The photos that teachers and staff take
throughout the year would be compiled and then, through Shutterfly, P.I.E. would create a photo album or “annual” for
each classroom. Parents would be able to purchase them at the end of the school year. Jessica and Mrs. Henderson
will work on the details.
Jessica purchased snacks for PAWS testing March 19-21st. Additionally, the 4th graders will have science testing on
March 25th and 26th.
Parent Teacher Conferences will be held March 5th and 7th. Jessica has organized dinner to be brought in for the teachers on those evenings. The Book Fair coincides with the conferences. Each student will receive a $5 credit toward a
book.
There will be no Walk to Math in March. It will start up again after Spring Break.
Mrs. Romans has requested that P.I.E. help with advertising for the upcoming craft fair scheduled for March 23 rd in the
gym. Some of the proceeds will go directly to P.I.E. Mrs. Voxland will post it on the district website. Jessica will
contact the Chamber and Landertalk.
Mrs. Voxland is planning a Health Rodeo on May 15th. There will be snacks and booths. She will let us know what
help is needed from P.I.E. She also mentioned that the Blazin’ Bobcats Mileage Club is going well, but they are in
need of $175 to pay for some of the students’ T-shirts. It was agreed that P.I.E. would provide the needed funds.
Update: Enough funds were raised that P.I.E. will not have to assist.
The talent show is scheduled for May 22nd at 1 pm. Try-outs will be held the week before on two different afternoons
(after school).
Jessica asked if there were any ideas for Teacher Appreciation Week, May 6-10th. It was suggested that P.I.E. provide
breakfast or lunch one of those days. We will discuss in detail at our next meeting.
Jessica encouraged the attendees to look at the internet site: TeacherLists.com. This is a tool for communicating with
teachers. Beginning next year, this may be a way that teachers and parents can effectively communicate.
P.I.E. will contribute approximately $1,400 for new Baldwin Creek Elementary T-shirts for next year. It was also
discussed to give each teacher a specific amount of money from P.I.E. rather than having the teachers put in special
requests, which, then P.I.E. must approve. We know District #1’s budget will be less next year, and by the end of this
school year, P.I.E. will know its balance. P.I.E. could set aside a specific amount, which would be given at the first of
next school year to each of the teachers to use as they see fit. Everyone agreed this would be a more effective way to
support our teaching staff.
Mrs. Fischer has received her loom and the students are very excited to start using it.
There was discussion about the possibility of the Baldwin Creek campus moving to the former Starrett Jr. High campus in the future. Mrs. Voxland shared that many things have to be taken into consideration including the best location
for Pathfinder HS and the administration offices before a final decision will be made. Dr. Bowman has set up a task
force to review and study all considerations with a recommendation due in October of this year.
Lastly, Jessica would like to compile a list of questions to give parents in regard to P.I.E. this year, and gain insight on
how to increase involvement for next year.
Next meeting will be Friday, April 12th, at noon.

Baldwin Creek Elementary continues to fundraise through purchases at Safeway either
using prepaid grocery cards or reloadable cards. Your choice:
1. Just drop off a check before the 5th of each month for your Safeway
pre-paid grocery card(s). On the 10th of each month, your card(s) is available in the office.
2. Purchase a $10 reloadable card from the school’s office, and simply have Safeway’s
customer service counter load/re-load when the funds are depleted.
Pre-paid or
Reloadable
Grocery
Card(s)
Our school receives a percentage from each card, and this money is used for student
programs/activities at school.
It’s that easy!
There have been several safety issues brought to our attention, so please support our staff in keeping each
child safe:






Children should not be let out of vehicles at the crosswalk on Baldwin Creek. Please drop them
off either at the crosswalk on Smith Street or in our front parking lot.
All pedestrians AND crossing guards must be all the way through the crosswalk and on the sidewalk before any vehicle may proceed through the crosswalk (in either direction).
The handicap parking spot should only be utilized by our families who require it. Please choose
another parking spot.
The speed limit on Smith Street and Baldwin Creek is only 20 mph between 7:30 - 4:30 pm.
Adult supervision on the playground in the morning starts at 7:45 am.
Please be sure your child is picked up at the dismissal bell as there are no adults to supervise
them if you are running more than a few minutes late.
Thank you for your attention to these safety concerns.
We are continuing to collect Box Tops which is an easy way to
raise funds for student programs here at BCE.
Thank you!
