For the next five days, under near perfect weather conditions (only a brief rain on Monday hampered the entire event weather wise), the racers rallied to five select “Host Cities” for spectacular lunch stops. These cities were Van Buren, AR, Joplin, Mo, Claremore, Ok, Muskogee, Ok and Eureka Springs. Each welcomed the racers with their selected theme which exhibited tremendous enthusiasm and originality. After a delicious lunch and a brief rest, the racers rallied back to the Embassy Suites host hotel in Rogers each night for a well deserved rest. Here are some interesting facts: number of husband / wife teams – 9, number of father/son-daughter & grandfather / grandson-granddaughter teams – 11, brother /sister team -1, high school teams -1 with a contingent of 10 team members, and one team with a navigator from Germany. The rally ended with an awards banquet on 27 June. Christmas Party Happy Holidays and a Joyous New Year!! Carol Hoyle & Charles Hoyle Editor Co-Editor 44th Annual PAC National Meet Branson, Missouri June 22 – 26, 2009 Accommodations As mentioned last month, our host hotel and Meet Headquarters will be the Lodge of the Ozarks. We have secured the entire hotel for the duration of (and the weekends preceding and following) the National Meet, including all guest rooms, whether your preference may be Queen, King, or a Handicapped equipped room. All of these rooms are priced at $75.00/night, and can be reserved by calling the Lodge at 877-327-9894. Please mention that you are with the Packard Club, and reference the rate code #65809 to the front desk to facilitate your reservation. We will be hosting the majority of Packard Club functions at the Lodge, including business meetings, banquets, swap meet, hospitality rooms (both adult and TPO), as well as using the Lodge as our starting point for tours and events. As is customary, staying at the Host Hotel has its advantages. However, for those that like to travel in their RV or camper, we have made arrangements with Musicland Kampground to provide hookups for PAC members at a 10% (minimum) discount. This is a Good Sam Park campground, and has the benefit of being approximately 400 yards from the Lodge of the Ozarks. Call 888-248-9080 to make reservations, and let them know you are with the Packard Club. Some members have expressed an interest in holding their family reunion during the National Meet. If you are part of a large party, you might consider staying at Pointe Royale Condominiums. Located near the Lawrence Welk Theater, approximately three miles south of the Lodge of the Ozarks, Pointe Royale has been working with the Packard Club to provide a reasonable rate, including golf discounts. You may contact Pointe Royale at 800-962-4710 and mention the Packard Club. 2009 National Meet Schedule Branson offers a unique opportunity to blend National Meet activities with a wide variety of other entertainments. The heart of Branson lies in its theater atmosphere, featuring every type of music and performance imaginable. Since there is no possible way to see and do it all in just a week, we have made an effort to provide the PAC membership with a sample of the venues. We hope that our planned activities add a fun and nostalgic backdrop to the regular PAC National Meet schedule of events. 5 The official start to the meet may not be until Monday, but that’s no reason not to come early and enjoy Branson over the weekend. Perhaps there is an unscheduled entertainer or event, or maybe you would like to indulge in a few rounds of golf, do a little fishing, or take your family hiking in the hills around Branson. For those wishing to spend a little more time in the Ozarks, we are offering some Early-Bird events. Saturday No group activities are planned during the day, but for dinner we will be heading to a nearby dinner theater. The White House Theater has great food followed by a terrific musical variety show. Sunday Sunday will begin with a driving tour to a private garage housing many interesting and beautiful automobiles, including several Packards, as well as Willys, Nash, Kaiser, and Corvair. Also notable is a very unusual collection of outboard motors. This morning tour will really kickstart the week, and will be one of the qualifying tours for Judging. We will shift gears Sunday afternoon, and head to the Yakov Smirnov Theater for some laughs with one of the most original comedians in the United States. A Russian immigrant with a keen eye on American culture, Yakov has been on stage and in the movies since arriving in the US, and entertaining in Branson since 1992. Monday The first official day of the 2009 PAC National Meet will start off with a driving tour (also a qualifying tour for Judging) north of Branson to Bonniebrook, the beautiful estate of artist Rose O’Neill, creator of the Kewpie® doll. Ms. O’Neill was one of the highest paid illustrators of her day, working also in sculpture and painting. The unique Ozark house we will be visiting started as a two-room “dog trot” log cabin which she had transformed into a 14-room “mansion,” the first in Taney County with indoor plumbing, running water, electricity and telephone. She also installed phones in the homes of her friends, so she would have someone to call. Lunch will be served. Later we will host the Welcome to Branson Party in The Club at the Lodge of the Ozarks. Live entertainment will make this party especially memorable. Next month will highlight the remaining week’s activities. 6 Mid-America Packards’ Official Projects Packard Owner’s Service Card - $3.35 Data Plate Name Badge - $8.00 (Specify Clip or Pin-Back Style) Parting Out 1) 1953 Patrician #2606; 2) 1955 Clipper Sedan; 3) 22nd Series #2201 front frame section, including all front suspension components.
