Enclosed instructions provide summarizing information how to best assemble
adjust to wheelchairs that so far can be fitted to e-drive, based on our current
1.0 model, dated as of 16.07.2015
1. Components:

2. Step by step guidelines
a) Please measure diameter of front frame of wheelchair in question.
b) Assess space available on wheelchair.
Essential height of 50mm, external width of 39 mm starting of bore, internal width of 17mm
starting of bore, depth of 50mm, as well as sufficient rotation range to adjust locking bolts
(height of 28 mm each).
c) Based on given diameter of adapter blocks (= 30mm), please select appropriate half shells
fitting diameter of frame.
d) Now place and adjust adapter blocks (same height on both sides) onto front frame, tighten
slightly, to allow for more aligning. Even, steady and crosswise tightening of blocks is
important to avoid twisting of frame tube. Be mindful of even gap dimension!
Beware:
For optimal positioning of user / driver in relation to mounted product, we recommend to
adjust as low as possible. Joints attached to this shipment allow for ideal mounting
positioning.

e) While using a level, ruler or steel angle, align both blocks parallel in height and turn.
f) Place both bolts into intake and shut tight. Equally mark position on bolts and adapter
block.

Width adjustment
g) Now insert both elbows into bolts and swing both downward, their ends overlapping in a
90° angle. Fixate with the help of cable binders. Mark endpoints while placing an angle at 90 °
at the end of each tube.
h) Remove both cable binders and mark both spare tube parts at the center. To achieve
sliding tolerance, you may subtract 2 mm on each elbow.

Shorten both elbows with a pipe cutter, deburring both external and internal surfaces.
Gap adjustment
i) Now again insert tubular bracket into bolts and head-on connect at its center with swivel
unit. Assess least possible distance / gap between bracket and wheelchair (of minimally
85mm from internal side of tube to cut surface), while keeping in mind necessary leg space
and frame angle. If ideal position is hard to be found, please use enclosed joints with minimal
connection length of 90 mm (bolts - tube section - joint approach).
Beware:
For orientation with regard to optimal positioning you may want to work with a gap of 120130mm starting at lower edge of swivel unit and going up to working surface.

Remove both elbows and shorten according to earlier markers, deburring and cleaning both
surfaces, both internal and external.
Beware:
Degrease all cutting edges and internal surfaces thoroughly with metal cleanser. This step is
essential with regard to durability and viability of glue to be used in the following!!!
Please also cleanse ends of both bolts and all 4 ends of joints.
Please use the left over pieces of elbows to cut out 2 pieces of 90 mm each, also deburr and
cleanse.
J) Now, connect and glue bolts tightly with short edges of elbows.
Use eductor to correctly mix and blend. Beware of evenly applying glue onto surfaces. Insert
bolt while twisting.
Time for glue to dry lies at about less than 5 minutes. Thoroughly remove excessive glue
instantly. Watch out for congruence of all marks on all components made before.

Leave all glued components to harden for 20 minutes and check durability.
Beware:
To assure correct gluing when working with joints, a vent will have to be drilled at the center of
connecting tube (hole of 4 mm in diameter)!
Connecting screws of joints M6 button head screws need tob e fixed with Loctite high strength.
INFORMATION REGARDING JOINTS:
Thanks to their 4-dimensional adjustability, enclosed joints allow for a wide range of mounting
positions, with removable leg rests or in the case of too little space in the lower frame area, or
in the case of open frame angles >90°.

k) Insert both elbows into connection clamp of swivel unit and align at center. Tighten both
ends slightly, while still leaving room to further align and then tighten.
Underneath both steering wheels of wheelchair (steering handles turned backward), either
place a 38-40 mm MDF or a wood panel of 10 cm in depth and 70cm in width.

Now mount and adjust prepared adapter unit and lock tight with adapter blocks already
mounted onto wheelchair.
l) Insert e-drive head-on. To do so, use release lever on steering handle bar, insert ball in ball
socket, push e-drive at the bottom into swivel unit and release lever one more time.
Lower drive wheel until it touches working surface.
Now tighten the connection clamp – perfectly aligned at the center of tube connection – with
the help of 4 allen screws M6, evenly and steadily crosswise. Be mindful of even gap
dimension! Secure position with screw maggots available within connection clamp to avoid
twisting.

Finally, thoroughly and evenly tighten attachments on adapter blocks.
Remove 40mm surface and examine movability of steering wheels.
m) For finetuning of mounting of adapter unit, allow for user of product to adjust e-drive to
own wheelchair.
Following an initial test drive, you may want to test ease with which to mount and disconnect
e-drive. Adjust mounting connection until it works smoothly.
ADVICE REGARDING INDIVIDUAL ADJUSTEMENTS:
With the help of a mallet, the tubular bracket can be gently moved, pushed inward or
outward. Clamping will have to be opened unilaterally first, however. By doing so, a centric
positioning of bolts can be achieved. Because of high manufacturing tolerances and twists
caused by construction in the case of many wheelchairs, this may be necessary.
