SAFSA Water Polo Team participated in the TYR Open Water Polo Challenge 2011, from 26 to 27 Feb
11. The competition saw 9 highly-competitive teams wrestling for the championship title. Foreign teams
included the Thailand and Malaysia National teams. SAFSA, Swift Swim Club, the Master Team, the 2 teams
of the National Training Squad, and the 2 JC teams formed the teams from Singapore.
On 26 Feb 11, SAFSA played 2 matches and we were ranked 2 nd in the group. This allowed the SAFSA
team to proceed onto semi-finals. However, the effort of our team was halted by the National Training
Squad B team (AKA Teck Ghee CSC), we ended up in the 4-to-6-placing play-off.
SAFSA played 3 matches on 27 Feb 11, though having lost to the National Training Squad and the 2
foreign team, managed to secure the 5th position. Team SAFSA has shown depth and composure playing
against the top gun in water polo both locally and among the foreign team. The scores were respectable
and this shall pave our way for organising the SAFSA Open end of this year.

On the 8 Mar 2011, various units in Naval Diving Unit (NDU) formed up 10 teams to participate in
the NDU Ultimate Frisbee Challenge 2011. As an added hype to the event, a foreign team consisting of
personnel from the US Navy took part in the challenge, as part of interaction and engagement with their
peers during the bilateral exercise with NDU/SWG.
The event started with an introduction to the game that is widely gaining popularity among
Singaporeans youths. SAFSA has been continually driving this initiative (LTP – Learn to Play Program) for the
past 2 years to allow various formations and units within SAF to appreciate the beauty and benefits of
Frisbee games.
The workshop commenced with 200 enthusiastic divers practicing their throws and catches
vigorously before the commencement of the league games. In the blink of an eye, the practices were over
and it was time for a break before the league started. Refreshments were catered for, and in a manner of
minutes, these delicacies were all finished up as everyone was drained out from the fun yet physical
demanding games.
The team comprising of personnel from both the US Navy and SWG took the Top podium standing,
for being undefeated in both league and knock-out stages. Team UDG came in close behind taking secong
spot after losing only in the finals. Team CDG and DVS took 3rd and 4th placing respectively.
The event also marked the closure of WY10 for NDU Formation Sporting Calender. Following this
successful LTP event, everyone will be looking forward to the new SAFSA initiative for the new WY11 - TAG
RUGBY!
