Money News A Quarterly Publication Fall 100 Million Memberships Reached at Credit Unions Nationwide (Source: Credit Union National Association, 8/5/14) Credit unions have reached and surpassed 100 million memberships nationwide—equating to one in every three Americans, the Credit Union National Association announced today. “Clearly, there is growing recognition for credit unions among consumers,” said CUNA President/CEO Bill Hampel. “They increasingly understand that a credit union places their interests above all else, particularly in returning financial benefits to consumer members in the forms of lower rates on loans, higher returns on savings, and lower and fewer fees.” He added that, in 2013, those financial benefits totaled more than $6 billion. In 2013, the Chicago Booth Kellogg School Financial Trust Index showed that consumers trust credit unions more than banks. The index, sponsored jointly by the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, showed trust in credit unions is 62%, while trust in big banks is 28%. Hundreds of credit union members have shared their credit union stories with their photos on americascreditunions.org and social media to show they are part of an organization that focuses on their best financial interests. This year’s theme, “Local Service. Global Good.TM, ” emphasizes credit unions’ positive impact in their communities and around the world. ABCO FCU’s ROUTING AND TRANSIT NUMBER 2312-7827-4 Due to the increasing cost of providing paper statements, ABCO Federal Credit Union has found it necessary to implement a paper statement fee of $1/statement beginning October 1, 2014. The price of postage, paper, printing and processing paper statements adds up to be a significant annual expense. Remember that credit unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives and, as a member, you are part owner of the credit union. Saving money allows us to return more money to members in the form of more services, better rates and lower fees. To avoid paying the paper statement fee, we encourage you to consider moving from a paperbased option to e-statements. E-statements provide the same information as paper statements and are securely available through online banking. Enrolling in e-statements will allow you to access up to 18 months of statements 24 hours a day/7 days a week. You can sign up for e-statements by visiting goabco.org/onlinebanking. Once you are registered for online banking, simply click on the estatements tab which will walk you through the short enrollment process. We are here to help! Visit goabco.org/estatements or contact Member Care at 1-800-225-1859. Note: Members under 18 and over 64 years of age will not incur the fee. ABCO FCU Donates to Operation Backpack for a Third Year This summer, ABCO Federal Credit Union and its members once again pulled together to help South Jersey’s children start the school year off right by contributing to the Center for Family Service’s Operation Backpack. ABCO was a corporate sponsor of the event and donated 50 backpacks, while ABCO members and employees contributed additional backpacks and hundreds of notebooks, folders, pencils, binders and more. Operation Backpack is a community-wide initiative that provides support to disadvantaged children and teens throughout southern New Jersey. The Center for Family Services provides the students in its programs new backpacks filled with school supplies at the start of each school year. ABCO Federal Credit Union and the Center for Family Services thank those who so generously donated.
