School Spectacular
During the holidays two representatives of the
School Spectacular came to Bemboka and placed a
sign on the front fence of our school indicating that
we are a spectacular school (but we already knew
that anyway!)
On Election Day the School Spectacular Group and
their supporters ran a cake stall at the Bemboka
Polling venue. It was great to see all the students
involved and helping reduce the cost of their trip to
Sydney later in the year. Thanks to everyone for
supporting the fundraising event.
Debating
Students participated in the 2nd and 3rd Rounds of
the Premiers Debating Challenge at Bodalla Public
School last Wednesday. The first debate was
against Bodalla Public School and the Topic was
“That we should let kids in Year 5 and above play
violent computer games”. We were the negative
team and convinced the adjudicator that our arguments against the topic were stronger than the affirmative team and were therefore awarded the
debate. Our second debate was against Batemans
Bay Public School and the topic was “That parents
should pay their kids as a reward when their
schoolwork improves”. We were the affirmative
team for this debate and the adjudicator found it
hard to separate the teams at the completion of the
debate indicating that both teams had great
arguments but unfortunately the debate was
awarded to Batemans Bay by a whisker.
Congratulations to all the girls participating; Hannah Collett, Jess Smith, Mora Fiedler, Lela Eder,
Alexis Charalambous, Premshishya Saraswati and
Premdharma Saraswati. Special thanks to Heidi
Collett for helping transport the team to Bodalla.
WEBCaTS
Mora and Alexis have been selected to participate in
the WEBCaTS virtual G&T class who are
conducting a Picture Book literacy program. This
opportunity is coordinated by experienced G&T
teacher, Judith Radin, and will be delivered using the
Adobe Connect webinar platform. The 2015 Program
revealed many benefits for the students who were
involved including valuable knowledge on learning
in virtual spaces, using technology for meaningful
learning (webinars, emails etc), self-discipline,
academic engagement, self- directed learning, personal creativity and a high level of personal
satisfaction. Many of the students found the learning
environment challenging, which made the outcome
and sense of personal achievement greatly rewarding
and satisfying. We look forward to the books that
both Mora and Alexis will create.
GREASE—School Performance
GREASE is the word! This year students at
Bemboka will perform the musical Grease in an
edited and shortened version suitable for primary age
students. There will be two performances on Monday
September 19th with one performance for friends,
families and children under 8 years of age at 12.00
noon and another later that evening for friends,
families and children OVER 8 years of age only.
This change in the evening performance has been
bought about by consultation with the staff and the
Bemboka P & C and the feedback we received from
the community after our last concert.
