Hymn When in Our Music God is Glorified no. 68 Prayer of Confession God of love and power, we listen to the stories of miracles in the Bible and doubt that these things can happen today. We look at the waves of misfortune, distress, misery, distrust, and anger all around us and wonder how we can still those waves. We feel the pressure of fear flooding into our lives, threatening to drown us and wonder where you are. Forgive us for the smallness of our faith. Forgive us for wandering away from you and living our life under our own power. Help us to place our trust in you, Lord Jesus, and find abundant, miraculous life. Amen. Merciful and mighty, Ev’rywhere adored. Holy, Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord. Prayer for Illumination Scripture Acts 8:4-13 Now those who were scattered went from place to place, proclaiming the word. Philip went down to the city of Samaria and proclaimed the Messiah to them. The crowds with one accord listened eagerly to what was said by Philip, hearing and seeing the signs that he did, for unclean spirits, crying with loud shrieks, came out of many who were possessed; and many others who were paralyzed or lame were cured. So there was great joy in that city. Now a certain man named Simon had previously practiced magic in the city and amazed the people of Samaria, saying that he was someone great. All of them, from the least to the greatest, listened to him eagerly, saying, “This man is the power of God that is called Great.” And they listened eagerly to him because for a long time he had amazed them with his magic. But when they believed Philip, who was proclaiming the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. Even Simon himself believed. After being baptized, he stayed constantly with Philip and was amazed when he saw the signs and great miracles that took place. Passing of the Friendship Folders Music On God, and Not on Human Trust Pachelbel Chancel Choir On God, and not on human trust, My earthly stand I’ve taken; On Him who made me out of dust I build with faith unshaken; I trust His hand Who understands, For all that He bestoweth Is good, as He best knoweth. English version: W.G. Polack Scripture Acts 8:14-24 Now when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them. The two went down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit(for as yet the Spirit had not come upon any of them; they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus). Then Peter and John laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money, saying, “Give me also this power so that anyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.” But Peter said to him, “May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain God’s gift with money! You have no part or share in this, for your heart is not right before God. Repent therefore of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, if possible, the intent of your heart may be forgiven you. For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and the chains of wickedness.” Simon answered, “Pray for me to the Lord, that nothing of what you have said may happen to me.” Give to the Winds Thy Fears heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” He asked, “Who are you, Lord?” The reply came, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. But get up and enter the city, and you will be told what you are to do.” The men who were traveling with him stood speechless because they heard the voice but saw no one. Saul got up from the ground, and though his eyes were open, he could see nothing; so they led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus. Message A Life Filled With Miracles Name One True Miracle That You Have Experienced. Message for Growing Christians Hymn There are two ways to live: you can live as if nothing is a miracle; you can live as if everything is a miracle. -Albert Einstein no. 129 Scripture Acts 9:1-8 Meanwhile Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest and asked him for letters to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any who belonged to the Way, men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem. Now as he was going along and approaching Damascus, suddenly a light from The flowers on the Lord’s Table are given to the glory of God in loving memory of Kay’s parents, Bernice and Wayne, and Ron’s parents, Marion and Hall, by Kay and Ron McCoy.
