TEAM X-T.R.E.M.E. HONOR’S WOUNDED WARRIOR AT
OUTER BANKS FIRST FLIGHT 5K
Outer Banks, North Carolina. (April 22, 2012) –
Team X-T.R.E.M.E., a non-profit organization
honoring wounded military service members,
announced that wounded warrior and Team XT.R.E.M.E. honoree, Marine Sgt. Jonathan
Mozingo, has completed the Marine Corps’ rigorous Sergeant’s Course – a 33 day
course designed to develop leadership skills and physical fitness endurance.
“This accomplishment is a huge step forward for wounded veterans who still want to
serve their country,” said Jeremy Soles, Founder/Chief Executive Officer for TEAM
X-T.R.E.M.E. “Our goal is to continuously raise awareness of their phenomenal spirit
and fortitude despite being amputees and seriously wounded individuals.”
Marine Sgt. Jonathan Mozingo was serving in the Marines and stepped on an IED while
on foot patrol in Afghanistan, resulting in his left leg being amputated below the knee.
The non-profit organization coordinated with Skydive OBX
and Jim Snyder of Outer Banks Sporting Events to skydive
Sgt. Mozingo into the start of the First Flight 5K. Sgt.
Mozingo then ran the First Flight 5k with two Team
X-T.R.E.M.E. X-Athletes, Marine veterans known only as
PRESS RELEASE “Vigilance” and “Justice”. Following that, TEAM X-T.R.E.M.E. coordinated with Kitty
Hawk Kites to take Sgt. Mozingo hang-gliding on the same sand dunes where the
Wright Brothers made their first historical flight.
TEAM X-T.R.E.M.E. works tirelessly to build awareness for wounded service men and
women by providing a rehabilitation network of physical events where veterans can test
their physical and mental strength. The program brings together ‘wounded warriors’ who
support each other through vigorous hiking, marathons, triathlons and skydiving
expeditions. Not only do the soldiers complete these various courses, often without the
use of arms or legs, but they do so with 50 lb. backpacks and gas masks as in their
recent participation in the Bataan Memorial Death March where Team X-T.R.E.M.E.
Warrior Athlete, double amputee Noah Galloway completed the 26.2 mile high desert
course with the Team.
Sgt. Mozingo’s ultimate goal is to return to his U.S. Marine’s combat unit and continue
fighting for his country.
“The work that Team X-T.R.E.M.E. does for wounded vets is incredible—through their
commitment, camaraderie and genuine & selfless concern and compassion they are
able to dramatically influence and create positive attitudes which is critical in the
recovery process,” said Sgt. Mozingo. “It is their unique and individualized approach
that has the most profound impact and lasting inspiration.”
