Silent Auction Rules
1. The Silent Auction will begin promptly at 5:00 p.m. on May 26, 2016 and will close in two sections at
approximately 6:50 and 7:00 p.m. Each closing bid will be certified by an Auction Official and constitutes
the winning bid. Serious bidders should stand next to the auction bid sheet until Auction Official
picks up the bid sheet. Not all bid sheets are picked up at the EXACT closing time.
2. All items and services have been donated to Japan America Society of Sothern California (JASSC) and
are sold by JASSC and not the donor. Purchasers may not ask for refunds or exchanges from the donor.
JASSC and Auction coordinators are not responsible for lost merchandise or certificates. Lost merchandise
or certificates will not be replaced.
3. All purchases are final. NO RETURNS OR REFUNDS.
4. All Silent Auction items and services must be used within the stipulated time limits and are subject to the
terms and conditions stipulated by the donors. Please note that all accommodations are subject to
availability. Exact dates and detailed conditions of stays in hotels must be arranged in advance by the
purchaser with the donor, keeping in mind that all black-out periods stated in the catalog and on the
certificates will apply. All noted restrictions and expiration dates apply. Expiration dates cannot be
extended.
5. JASSC assumes no responsibility should any of these establishments be unable to fulfill your certificate.
6. In the event of a contested item, the last two individuals appearing on the bid sheet will participate in a
sealed “bid off.” This will be in written form. The decision of the Auction Official in this procedure will be
final.
7. All prizes in the Silent Auction have bid sheets placed nearby. Persons bidding must include their name,
bid number, table number, phone number and bid amount on the sheet. Incorrect bid increases will be
changed by the Auction Officials.
8. Winners will be notified at their tables during the evening. Items purchased must be picked up by the end
of the evening of the event. Payments must be made by the end of the evening of the event, and may be
made by cash, check (made payable to JAS), Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover.
9. Please note the minimum bids and bid increases for each item. Bids will be honored only if incremental
bids are in accordance with the minimum increases. Bids below opening minimum bids will be changed to
the proper increase.
10. The Auction Coordinators have endeavored to catalog and describe the Auction items correctly, but all
items are sold “as is” and the Auction Coordinators neither warrant nor represent and in no way are
responsible for the correctness of description, or genuineness, authorship, provenance or condition to
represent cash value and, once given to the purchaser will not be replaced (if lost or otherwise). No
statement contained in the Catalog or made orally at the Auction or elsewhere shall be deemed to such a
warranty of representation or assumption of liability.
11. Certificates are the same as cash and cannot be replaced if lost or stolen. Travel packages, however, are
only suggested. Should you wish to extend your stay, you must coordinate with the donor directly, at your
expense. JASSC and AUCTION COORDINATORS DO NOT MAKE TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS.
12. Neither JASSC nor Knock Out Productions shall be liable to winners for any failure, delay, cancellation,
interruption or changes to any provision of services, events or travel packages purchased which is
occasioned by causes beyond our control including, but not restricted to fires, earthquakes, floods or other
inclement weather, war, civil commotion or disturbances, strikes, lockouts, labor disputes, accidents,
epidemic, interruptions in or delays of transportation services, electrical or power failures or outages,
failures or delays in obtaining delivery from donors or manufacturers, suspension or non-renewal of the
venue’s license for any reasons whatsoever, or any act ruling, regulation or law of any government bureau
or agency or public authority. Delays so caused shall not release winners from their obligations to accept
and pay for the items purchased.
13. Items/certificates purchased at this auction cannot be sold on any internet auction or at any other event.
Certificates will be considered void if these items are sold on any internet site.

Hotel Zelos San Francisco (formerly the Hotel Palomar) resides in the
historic Pacific Building, which opened in 1907. The Pacific Building

Our 2013 Two Creeks Pinot Noir displays a beautifully fragrant nose of bright raspberry, strawberry, red
cherry, cranberry, and pomegranate fruit, with a darker plum tone and hints of rose petal and oak toast
adding complexity. On the palate, the wine is richer and more intense than its nose might suggest, with
concentrated black cherry, plum and blackberry flavors that turn spicy on the long, youthfully firm finish. This

womb, and it is no myth that babies are often lulled asleep by its thunderous vibrations. Secondly, read in a
different way, the word can mean "children of the drum," a reflection of Kodo's desire to play the drums
simply, with the heart of a child.
Since the group’s debut at the Berlin Festival in 1981, Kodo has given more than 3,700 performances on all
five continents, spending about a third of the year overseas, a third touring in Japan and a third rehearsing and
preparing new material on Sado Island. Kodo strives to both preserve and re-interpret traditional Japanese
performing arts. Beyond this, members on tours and research trips all over the globe have brought back to
Sado a kaleidoscope of world music and experiences which now exerts a strong influence on the group's
performances and compositions.

Chef Andy Matsuda was born near Kobe, Japan in 1956. When he was 9 years old, the family started a small
Japanese restaurant, where he learned the joy of cooking. After graduating from high school, he began to
work as an apprentice at 'Genpachi', one of the most famous restaurant in Osaka, for 5 years. He also became
a member of Sushi Chef Organization called 'Yosei-kai'. At the age of 23, he returned to his hometown to help
expand the family business. Once that was completed, at the age of 25, his new challenge in life was to move
to Los Angeles, California.
