Graduate from 4-H following high school graduation -or One year after high school graduation.
4-H MEMBERSHIP/COMPETITION POLICY
Statewide 4-H Youth Development has developed two statements
about 4-H membership intended to provide consistency to the way
young people identify themselves with counties and how they are
selected for out-of-county competitive events. For policies purposes, 4-H membership is defined as having an individual enrollment
form on file/entered in the computer membership database at the
county extension office. Policies are effective as of December
2014.
Membership Policy #1
"Youth may not hold 4-H membership in more than one county/state
at the same time."
This simply requires that they only hold 4-H membership in a single county at any given time.
Membership Policy #2
"Youth must qualify for participation in district, state or national
4-H competitions through their county of membership." Members
must be selected as representatives of only their county of membership, regardless of the location of the qualifying experience.
4HOnline—A Useful Tool for ALL 4-H Families
4HOnline is not just for enrollment! Families can use this webbased program to read their 4-H newsletter, receive communications from your county 4-H office, and update your member’s
health form for 4-H events. The Dodge County 4-H Office uses

important announcements and reminders.

Bonnie’s Bidding
Parents: consider being a dair y or livestock leader for your
club.
Older Youth: I challenge you to develop your skills in leadership by being a youth leader for your animal project.
In this new project year, your project group should be meeting
6-8 times to develop more understanding of your animal, OR
bring your whole group to the county livestock project meetings! Let’s strive to LEARN and LEAD.
The UW-Extension office is here to help you. Give us a call at
920-386-3790.
YOUTH TRACTOR SAFETY
Coming in 2016!! Dates to be announced!
Check your local newspapers and Dodge
County UW-Extension’s website at http://
dodge.uwex.edu for registration and information later this month!
Tractor Safety is a course for youth in
Dodge and surrounding counties. Youth
participants between the ages of 12 to 16 years will receive a
variety of information and training on the safe operation of tractors and machinery that they may encounter on crop or livestock farms.
MAS Project Member Activity Card
(Orange Card)
Calling all beef, sheep and swine
project members and leaders!
County Livestock Project Meetings

Monday, November 16 7:00pm Rooms 1F & 1G in the
Dodge County Administration Building.
This counts for 1 point on your MAS Project Activity Card.
TOPIC: Selection of Your Project Animal.
You will learn from “show-smart” folks, identifying
attributes of sound project animals that have potential
for high market value.

Monday, January 18 at 7:00pm Rooms 1F & 1G in the
Dodge County Administration Building.
TOPIC: Competing on Interactive Displays—quiz
to determine what you learned.
LOST & FOUND
A gray hose with purple/magenta spray nozzle was found in the
youth beef barn in the area near the middle of the building on
the west side of the barn. Exhibitors that may be the owners:
Lebanon Luckies, Leipsic, River Oaks, Astico Perserverance or
Herman Hornets.
Please call the UW-Extension office at
920-386-2790 to claim.
There has been some confusion regarding the educational
points required by the MAS committee for the education point
card. “4” points are required and can be obtained by attending
educational livestock events. AT LEAST 2 of the points need
to be gotten at a county or state educational event. For some
youth who have no means to have “local club” learning events,
it is always possible to have all 4 or more points obtained from
county or state events.
If an “out of county” event is where a point will be obtained,
use the back of the card to explain the event AND obtain a
signature that can be identified so a call may be given if the
committee has questions.
No educational event may give a youth more than 1
educational points (even if other county’s youth obtain 2+
points for such an event).
Youth attending college may obtain a point for agricultural
events attended by speaking with Bonnie and obtaining MAS
committee approval.
Volunteer Tax Deductions
A number of tax benefits are available for volunteers under
the general charitable contribution deduction of the IRS
Code. Volunteers may deduct non-reimbursed, out-of-pocket
expenses directly related to a charitable organization such as
4-H, if they itemize deductions for 2015. Detailed
information is available in IRS Publication 525, or check out
the “Forms and Pubs” section of the IRS website at
www.irs.gov.

to gain knowledge in meats evaluation! We encourage ALL
livestock project members and leaders to attend. Five main
areas will be the focus of the training workshops.

2. Selecting & Ranking Meat Cuts
3. Food Safety, Labeling & Nutrients
4. Identifying Various Meat Cuts from Beef, Pork & Lamb
5. Differences in Quality Grades.
The training workshops will be announced at a later date.
Please send in the clipout to indicated your interest —
even if you are a past team member!
Questions? Please call Becky Doman at 920-248-9311.
4-H Livestock Quiz Bowl & Skillathon Contest
Livestock Bowl is a quiz competition where all the questions
are about beef, sheep, swine, and meat goat topics and students
use a buzzer in order to answer the questions. Teams compete
in a double elimination format by giving oral answers to questions posed by a moderator. Each match has both and individual and toss-up question round. The winning 4-H senior team
will represent Wisconsin at the National 4-H Livestock Quiz
Bowl competition in Omaha, NE as the AKSARBEN Livestock Exhibition.
Skillathon contest is made up of a written quiz and learning
stations such as breed identification, feed identification, equipment identification as well as some team activities such as
demonstrating evaluation skills. The top Senior level 4-H team
will represent Wisconsin at the National 4-H Skillathon Contest, held each fall in Louisville.
Competition in Quiz Bowl & Skillathon encourages members
to develop a more complete knowledge of animals and related
subjects. This contest provides an educational program for all
project members, including those who may not own a project
animal, and provides a way to develop self-confidence. These
programs are a great parallel to some similar programs that
breed associations and other organizations conduct.
Practices held on most Monday evenings. The State
Contest is MARCH 5.

industry. Five finalists will be selected to compete for the
$500 scholarship, with each finalist receiving $250 for their
participation. Scholarship applications will be available in
the fall.
Interested high school seniors can receive an application by
contacting the Wisconsin Pork Association office at 1-800822-7675 or (608) 723-7551, or by going to the WPA

Whitmore Memorial Scholarship
The Whitmore Memorial Scholarship was established as a
legacy to the late Rex Whitmore, a master statesman and
communicator who served as the first executive director of
the Wisconsin Pork Producers Association.
Applicants must be a registered junior or senior at one of
the following University of Wisconsin campuses: Madison,
Platteville, or River Falls. This is a $500 scholarship, and
priority will be given to applicants pursuing an Animal
Science or closely related major, with each finalist
receiving $250 for their participation. Scholarship
applications will be available in the fall.
Gunderson Memorial Scholarship
Wisconsin Pork Association, in cooperation with the family
of Buell Gunderson, established a scholarship program in
2007 to recognize the many contributions that Buell
Gunderson made to the Wisconsin pork industry. As a
swine herdsman for the University of Wisconsin-Madison
for more than 30 years, Buell Gunderson was instrumental
in helping shape not only the swine industry, but also
hundreds of 4-H and FFA youth and university students
through his teaching, judging, coaching, and commitment.
In addition, Gunderson, together with his wife, Bernice,
served as Secretary/Treasure of the Wisconsin Pork
Association for 20 plus years and assisted in growing the
organization from its initial roots to the successful
organization that it is today – sponsoring scholarships,
developing youth programs, and helping to support the pork
producers of the state.

at 1-800-822-7675, or via e-mail at [email protected].
