First & second graders (as of 10/01/2015) enroll in Dodge County 4-H as Cloverbuds. Third graders enroll as Explorers. Starting at fourth grade, members can select from a variety of projects. Youth continue to be eligible for membership (1) year beyond high school graduation (grade 13) up to age 19 by December 31, 2015. Member graduation option: Graduate from 4-H following high school graduation -or One year after high school graduation. 4-H MEMBERSHIP/COMPETITION POLICY Statewide 4-H Youth Development has developed two statements about 4-H membership intended to provide consistency to the way young people identify themselves with counties and how they are selected for out-of-county competitive events. For policies purposes, 4-H membership is defined as having an individual enrollment form on file/entered in the computer membership database at the county extension office. Policies are effective as of December 2014. Membership Policy #1 "Youth may not hold 4-H membership in more than one county/state at the same time." This simply requires that they only hold 4-H membership in a single county at any given time. Membership Policy #2 "Youth must qualify for participation in district, state or national 4-H competitions through their county of membership." Members must be selected as representatives of only their county of membership, regardless of the location of the qualifying experience. 4HOnline—A Useful Tool for ALL 4-H Families 4HOnline is not just for enrollment! Families can use this webbased program to read their 4-H newsletter, receive communications from your county 4-H office, and update your member’s health form for 4-H events. Older Youth: I challenge you to develop your skills in leadership by being a youth leader for your animal project. In this new project year, your project group should be meeting 6-8 times to develop more understanding of your animal, OR bring your whole group to the county livestock project meetings! Let’s strive to LEARN and LEAD. The UW-Extension office is here to help you. Give us a call at 920-386-3790. YOUTH TRACTOR SAFETY Coming in 2016!! Dates to be announced! Monday, January 18 at 7:00pm Rooms 1F & 1G in the Dodge County Administration Building. TOPIC: Competing on Interactive Displays—quiz to determine what you learned. LOST & FOUND A gray hose with purple/magenta spray nozzle was found in the youth beef barn in the area near the middle of the building on the west side of the barn. Exhibitors that may be the owners: Lebanon Luckies, Leipsic, River Oaks, Astico Perserverance or Herman Hornets. Please call the UW-Extension office at 920-386-2790 to claim. There has been some confusion regarding the educational points required by the MAS committee for the education point card. “4” points are required and can be obtained by attending educational livestock events. AT LEAST 2 of the points need to be gotten at a county or state educational event. For some youth who have no means to have “local club” learning events, it is always possible to have all 4 or more points obtained from county or state events. If an “out of county” event is where a point will be obtained, use the back of the card to explain the event AND obtain a signature that can be identified so a call may be given if the committee has questions. No educational event may give a youth more than 1 educational points (even if other county’s youth obtain 2+ points for such an event). Youth attending college may obtain a point for agricultural events attended by speaking with Bonnie and obtaining MAS committee approval. As a swine herdsman for the University of Wisconsin-Madison for more than 30 years, Buell Gunderson was instrumental in helping shape not only the swine industry, but also hundreds of 4-H and FFA youth and university students through his teaching, judging, coaching, and commitment. In addition, Gunderson, together with his wife, Bernice, served as Secretary/Treasure of the Wisconsin Pork Association for 20 plus years and assisted in growing the organization from its initial roots to the successful organization that it is today – sponsoring scholarships, developing youth programs, and helping to support the pork producers of the state.
