Monsignor McNamee will be presented his award at the NCEA Awards
Banquet during their convention in Orlando in April. He is one of 12 pastors
across the country who were selected.

Around the Parish
Men’s Club Kicks off New Year
The CTK Men’s Club is pleased to kick off the 2015 Speakers Series
on Thursday, February 5 with Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl President and
CEO, Gary Stokan. Gary will speak on the new bowl system,
including the historic (and immensely entertaining) first College
Football Playoff, and how the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl fits into the
rotation in upcoming years. The cost is $20 which includes dinner and beverages.

3rd Annual Renewal of Vows, Valentine’s Dinner
CTK Cana ministry invites all married and engaged couples to the Renewal of
Vows, Cocktail and Dinner event on Saturday, February 14 at 5 pm in the
Cathedral (childcare provided). We hope you join us for Mass and the annual
renewal of vows with Monsignor Frank with a Valentine’s catered cocktails and
dinner that follows. The focus of the Cana is to bring together married and
engaged couples to build fellowship at CTK through social and service events. The
cost is $75 per couple and covers catered dinner, drinks, and music. Childcare
and pizza will be provided for children 6 mos. – 11 years old; $10 for one child
and $5 for each additional child.

In today’s readings, God, through Jonah’s preaching, causes the people of Nineveh to answer
His call, turn away from evil, and repent. In St. Mark’s Gospel, Jesus calls Simon-Peter,
Andrew, James and John to be His disciples. They respond immediately, leaving their fishing
businesses and families—sacrificing everything to follow the Lord. Their actions were
considered radical in Jesus’ day, and also by today’s standards. As disciples striving to embrace
stewardship as a way of life, are we, too, willing to sacrifice all to further His kingdom?

3rd ANNUAL ARCHDIOCESAN CHASTITY SPEAKER
Come join teens, young adults, and parents from across the Archdiocese for the
3rd annual Archdiocesan high school chastity speaker series. This year CTK will
be hosting this event featuring the incredibly gifted Matt Fradd, founder of The
Porn Effect (www.theporneffect.com), speaking on “Porn: 7 Myths Exposed.”
This FREE event will take place on Friday, January 30 at 7:15 pm in Kenny Hall.
While a difficult topic, this is unfortunately a very common issue plaguing teens
and adults alike. Statistics show that 93% of boys and 62% of girls are exposed to
internet pornography before the age of 18. Bottom line: we need to be talking
about this. This event is open to all teens, parents, and young adults in the Atlanta

Mama Noel & Bud Murray Scholarship Awarded
Every year at a December school Mass, the
Mama Noel & Bud Murray Scholarship is
awarded to a Christ the King student who
embodies the qualities that Mr. and Mrs.
Murray taught their own nine children who
attended Christ the King School: always make
your best effort, be kind and helpful to others,
volunteer your talents, respect authority, be a
peace maker and grow in God’s grace each day.
This year, Jeff Euart (CKS ’85), grandson of Noel and Bud Murray, presented the
award to Mary Grace Whitlark, the 2014 award recipient. Congratulations, Mary
Grace, and many thanks to the Murray family for their continued support of
Christ the King School.
Christ the King School Admissions
Christ the King School is a community uniting school, family and faith.
Applications are now being accepted for the 2015-2016 school year for admission
to Kindergarten through Seventh Grade. The deadline for submitting an
application is January 30, 2015, and screening for potential students will begin
the first week of February 2015. If interested, please submit your student’s

Bereavement Support
Pastoral Care is sponsoring classes where the bereaved can better understand the
grief process, have the opportunity to express their experiences, and to explore
with others who are also grieving the loss of a loved one. This 10-week series will
assist the bereaved in their grief and their journey to healing while maintaining the
memories of their loved one. This series uses “The New Day Journal: A Journey
from Grief to Healing” by Mauryeen O’Brien. The workbook cost $10.50 and can
be purchased at the first session. The next series begins Monday, January 26 at
7pm in the Media Center in Christ the King School.

Legion of Mary is the glory of God through the holiness of its members developed

Funeral Reception Volunteers Needed
The Funeral Reception Committee provides loving hospitality for families who ask
to have a reception following their loved one’s funeral. We offer a variety of
opportunities to serve: to cook food, telephone committee or serve at the
reception. Recipes are provided and you will be called only once or twice a month
to volunteer. All is done on a rotation basis. If you are interested in volunteering

Sandwich Making
The next Sandwich Making for the night shelters of the Shrine of the Immaculate
Conception and Central Presbyterian churches is Monday, February 2 at 7 pm in
the Christ the King School Cafeteria. This is a great service project for families and
children of all ages, especially those needing service hours. This is emergency food
used to feed the needy. For information on the different ways you can help with

Snack Bag Making
The next Snack Bag Making is Wednesday, February 11 at 6:30 pm in Conference
Room 2. Please help us feed the hungry by making snack bags or donating nonperishable, individual pull top cans of a main dish item (such as chili, macaroni
and cheese, spaghetti, beef stew or ravioli) and juice or milk box drinks for the

Around the Archdiocese
Catholic Day at the Capitol
The Archdiocese of Atlanta and Diocese of Savannah invite Georgia Catholics to
the State Capitol in Atlanta on Tuesday, February 3 from 8:30 – 3 pm. The day
will start at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, 48 Martin Luther King, Jr.
Drive, SW, Atlanta at 8:30 am with a legislative briefing and workshops. We will
walk together to the Capitol to hear Archbishop Gregory open the legislative
session with a prayer and to meet your legislators. Lunch will be on your own.

Youth Art Contest
Each year, the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) sponsors a
Multi-Media Youth Art Contest. Students in grades 7–12 participating in this
contest will learn about the issues of domestic poverty and the need to empower
low income persons to address the challenges affecting their own communities.
Then they are guided to utilize their talents and present their multimedia work
(e.g. video, painting, photography, poetry, song, etc.) to educate others using this
years’ theme: “Do Justice, Love Goodness, Walk Humbly with God.”

Women Sought
Women of Atlanta, our priests need you! Here is our second opportunity to
become a spiritual mother to one of our priests as part of the new program in
Atlanta called “El Cingulo,” or The Cincture. El Cingulo is a group of women who
have agreed to spiritually adopt one priest each and become his spiritual mother.
We offer up daily prayers, works, sufferings, hours of adoration and Masses for his
sanctification and well-being. All those women interested in becoming a "spiritual
mother" are invited to attend a discernment meeting on Thursday, February

Living Your Strengths Journey
Are you wondering what your strengths are? There are
many opportunities to become fully engaged in parish
life through prayer, study of our faith, the sharing of your
time, talent and treasure, and by inviting others to be a
part of the Cathedral life. It can also be a challenge to
know what to do or might be a good fit for your talents.
Each of us is uniquely created in the image and likeness
of God our Creator but it isn’t always easy to put our
God-given talents into practice. The Living Your Strengths
Journey gives us the ability to discover our God-given
talents, explore and develop them and grow as good
stewards of the strengths and talents God has given us.

The journey begins with taking the Clifton StrengthsFinders
Assessment to determine your Top Five Strengths.The
four-week Living Your Strengths Journey and working
with your personal Strengths Coach will help you “find
your right ministry fit.” Afterwards, you will be able to
answer with confidence the following questions:–
Can you recognize your Top Five Strengths and the
unique strengths of the people around you?
– Are you using your unique gifts to be the best you can
be in your personal, professional and parish lives?
– Have you found the CTK ministry where you can use
your strengths?
After the 4-week Living Your Strengths Journey, you will be
able to answer those questions. Living Your Strengths Journey

Adopt-A-Family Christmas Project

The Cathedral of Christ the King, in conjunction with
Catholic Charities and the St. Vincent de Paul Society,
sponsors the Adopt-A-Family Program. The Adopt-AFamily program is a way to get your entire family involved
in sharing your many blessings with those in need. Last year
the program helped 550 families
in Christ the King and throughout
Atlanta. For many of those families,
what you give is the only Christmas
they will experience. Volunteers are
needed to distribute gifts on pick
up day, verify wish lists, and answer
calls from sponsoring and recipient
families.

Christ the King hosts two blood drives annually. Volunteers
are needed to recruit and schedule donors and publicize
the blood drives held in the Fall and Spring each year.
Buckhead Christian Ministries

Christ the King is a sponsoring church of this ecumenical
ministry of churches in our neighborhood that assist in
serving those in need of food, shelter, or employment.
Volunteers needed to work with the staff in the BCM office, to
help without parish wide food drives (December and May)
to stock the BCM food pantry, or work at the thrift store.
Christ Child Society of Atlanta

The Christ Child Society is a charitable organization
dedicated to serving at-risk children in our community.
Our signature program, baby layettes, provides essential
baby items to needy mothers to organizations throughout
Atlanta. We also rock newborn babies at Grady Hospital.

We’ve developed and maintain an organic garden for the
education of the children at the Elaine Clark Center for
Exceptional Children. We also provide helping hands at
the Elaine Clark Center, St Peter
Claver Regional Catholic School,
and Christo Rey Jesuit High
School. We have a book donation
program for the needs of the
children at Grant Park Clinic. Our
Atlanta chapter is one of over 70
belonging to the National Christ
Child Society.
Mustard Seed Mission Trips

protection of life issues by working with the Archdiocese
Pro-Life Office to increase awareness of pro-life issues.

limited financial means. Help is needed to recruit other volunteers, provide meals on the work days, provide goods and

MUST Summer Lunch Sandwich Making

Since 1995, the MUST Ministries Summer Lunch Program
has provided lunch during the summer months to those
children who are eligible to receive a reduced or free lunch
during the school year. Each day, Monday through Friday,
2,200 children receive a sacked lunch that contains a
sandwich, chips, any assortment of vegetables or fruit, a
dessert item and a juice box. You can help by bringing food;
delivering the lunches to the MUST Ministries distribution
site or by distributing lunches to the children. This is a great
service project for all ages. Adult volunteers are needed to
deliver lunches to both the distribution site as well as to the
children.

Inspired by the healing and caring ministry of Jesus Christ,
Mustard Seed ministries mission trips aim, by caring, sharing
and training, to uplift the most vulnerable members of
society, especially handicapped and abandoned children, and
marginalized communities in Haiti, Jamaica, the Dominican
Republic and Zimbabwe. Volunteers are needed to go on trips,
fundraise and communicate the Mustard Seed mission.

Volunteers are needed to make and deliver sandwiches to a
downtown men’s homeless shelter. We meet the first Monday,
in November through March at 7:00 p.m. This is a great
project for families and students needing service hours.
Snack Bag Ministry

Each month Christ the King provides 100 snack bags to
hungry individuals who come to our doors. Please help
us feed the hungry by making snack bags or donating
non-perishable, individual pull top cans of main dish items
(such as chili, macaroni and cheese, spaghetti, beef stew or
ravioli) and juice or milk box drinks for the snack bags. As
little as $2 can alleviate hunger. Volunteers are needed to go
shopping and making the bags on the second Wednesday of
the month at 6:30 p.m.
St. Vincent de Paul Society

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is the largest Catholic
charitable organization. St. Vincent de
Paul assists the needy on a confidential
basis with necessities such as food,

Bereavement Support Ministry

I. The New Day Journey – An 8-part series offers
bereavement support and resource referrals to those
experiencing grief, due to loss of a loved one.
II. Healing Masses are celebrated three times yearly
on Wednesday evening in February, May and August,
offering grace-filled opportunities through the sacraments,
continued prayer support and healing. A reception follows
each Mass and Prayer Teams are available. In November
near the Feast of All Souls we plan a liturgy to pray for
those who died within the past year. Volunteers are needed
as extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, lectors,
greeters and for reception hospitality at these Masses on
Wednesday evenings 7:00 p.m. four times a year.
Card Ministry

This ministry honors and remembers CTK parishioners
monthly. Card Ministry volunteers are assigned two or
three names of Senior Adults to whom they send cards.
These monthly cards may include birthdays, Valentine’s
Day, Easter and Christmas. Volunteers work from home
following their own schedule.

This is a Christ-centered ministry to reconnect the
homebound person to the parish community of faith.
A CK Buddy is prayerfully assigned a senior adult from
the parish who is in need of visitations. Meetings with
‘buddies’ take place once a week for about an hour. You
may decide together the number of visits per month.

Minister of Holy Communion and would like to bring
Holy Communion to Catholics at Piedmont Hospital,

facilitators, for registration and coordinating sessions.

Volunteers are needed as extraordinary ministers of Holy

Through this ministry various topics of interest are
addressed concerning health and how to plan for the end
of life. Previous topics of concern included how to plan
a funeral, palliative care during long-term illness, the
Church’s teaching on cremation, and information on
Alzheimer’s Disease: its symptoms, causes and care.
Volunteers research new topics, help with registration at
the series, and provide reception hospitality. These series
take place at least once yearly or as needed.

Legion of Mary
The Rosary Group promotes prayers of intercession to Our
Lady through daily rosaries, First Saturday Devotions and
monthly meetings. Volunteers are needed to assist with
the assembly of Rosary Packets, administrative assistance,
and manage advertising in the parish and archdiocesan
publications.

Senior Adult Ministry
Through dedication to the corporal
and spiritual works of mercy and
under the patronage of our Blessed
Mother, members share the light of

and beyond. Weekly meetings focus
on prayer and the study of the teachings of the Church. Members volunteer
their time on various charitable works.
LifeSpan
Senior Adult Ministry is a spiritual and learning resource
for the senior adults of our faith community. Come and
share in spiritual growth thorough fellowship, fun and
prayer at CTK’S monthly Mass and Anointing of the Sick,
followed by celebratory luncheon programs. Volunteers are
welcome to be on the luncheon hospitality team as greeters
and servers, to take photographs, to plan programs, and/or
to participate as a lector or Extraordinary Minister of Holy
Communion for the Mass.
Stephen Ministry
LifeSpan is an interfaith organization supported by Christ
the King parish, which recognizes and responds to the
needs of senior adults in our congregation and neighborhood communities. Programs such as ‘Lunch ‘N Learn’,
handyman services, medical transportation, wellness
screenings provide care giving to adults 50 and older who
have social and/or physical needs. Volunteers attend
Monday morning meetings at Life Span four times yearly
and report to CTK their currently active programs.
Prayer Chain
Stephen Ministry is a Christ-centered, confidential, one on
one, caring ministry. Stephen Ministers are lay parishioners
trained in the skills of Christian care-giving and commissioned
to minister to other parishioners who are experiencing a
crisis such as divorce, job loss, depression, loss of a loved
one, illness. The extensive training program begins in
September and meets on Wednesday evenings followed by
a two-year commitment to serve.

Word of God Prayer Group
The CTK Prayer Chain allows us to pray for our brothers
and sisters when they are unable to pray for themselves
or when they need our support to pray with them and for
them. All that is needed is a willing heart and a genuine

The Prayer Shawl/Blanket Ministry gives gifts to those in
need of comfort such as the dying, those who have lost a
loved one, those going through a divorce, etc. Each session

We intercede for the needs of our families, parish, country,
and the Church. If you are going through a difficult time

offered 4 times a year in the Cathedral.

Monseñor McNamee Seleccionado ‘Pastor del Año’
¡Felicitaciones!
Monseñor McNamee ha sido
seleccionado por la
Asociación Nacional de
Educación Católica (NCEA
por sus siglas en inglés) para
el premio a Pastor del Año.
Este premio se le otorga a los
pastores que han dado un
apoyo sobresaliente a la
educación Católica.
De acuerdo a la NCEA, el
pastor nominado debe:
Monseñor Frank recibiendo la noticia durante una
Misa reciente de la escuela.
1.Poseer una clara filosofía de la educación Católica.
2.Proporcionar guía espiritual a la comunidad de la escuela.
3.Participar en las actividades escolares.
4.Trabajar con el consejo de la escuela y/o la asociación de padres de familia.
5.Apoyar a la administración de la escuela.
6.Involucrar a la comunidad en contribuir financieramente con la escuela.
7.Recibir recomendaciones del director, profesor, un miembro del Consejo de la
escuela y de un padre de familia.
8.Recibir el respaldo del superintendente diocesano y la aprobación de la diócesis.
9.Haber tenido un mínimo de tres años de servicio como pastor.
Monseñor McNamee recibirá este premio en el Banquete de Premiación de la
NCEA durante su convención en Orlando en Abril. El es uno de los 12 pastores en
el país que fueron seleccionados para recibir este premio.
“En la escuela de Cristo Rey sabemos que él es un pastor excelente”, dijo la señora
Tricia Ward, directora del colegio. “Qué gratificante que esto sea reconocido a
nivel nacional”.

respuesta al llamado de Dios - Su voluntad en nuestras vidas. San Pablo nos dice

3ra CONFERENCIA ANUAL ARQUIDIOCESANA SOBRE LA
CASTIDAD
Se invita a los adolescentes, jóvenes adultos y padres de familia en toda la
Arquidiócesis a la Tercera Conferencia Anual sobre castidad. Este año, la Catedral
estará ofreciendo este evento con la colaboración de Matt Fradd, fundador de The
Porn Effect (El Efecto de la Pornografía - www.theporneffect.com). El hablará
sobre “Pornografía: 7 Mitos Expuestos”. Este evento es GRATIS y será el Viernes 30
de Enero a las 7:15 pm en el Kenny Hall.. Tendremos traducción al español
disponible para quienes lo requieran.
El tema a tratar es un tema difícil, que es desafortunadamente una plaga común
entre adolescentes y adultos. Las estadísticas muestran que 93% de los chicos y
62% de las chicas están expuestos a la pornografía en la internet antes de cumplir
los 18 años. Y estaremos hablando de esto. El evento está dirigido a los
adolescentes, padres de familia y jóvenes adultos de Atlanta. Para más información

WELCOME FROM THE PASTOR AND
CATHEDRAL STAFF
Dear Friends in Christ,
On behalf of Archbishop Wilton Gregory, the Clergy and
staff, I welcome you to the Cathedral of Christ the King. I
hope and pray that you feel welcomed by our parish
community and that your spiritual and pastoral needs will
be met.
We are a very active parish with 5,500 families and over one
hundred ministries. We encourage our members to share
their gifts of time, talent and treasure.
Our mission statement is to “Know, Love and Serve as Jesus
Did”. This is the mission of each disciple of Christ and, if
you are new, I hope and pray that you will join us and be
part of the community of Christ the King. If you are passing
through or visiting the city of Atlanta, I hope you enjoy your
worship experience and please visit us again.

THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM
Parish families who wish to have a child baptized should be
registered in the parish for 3 months and take the prebaptismal class BEFORE the birth of their child. Classes are
offered monthly. Please contact Gail Gaboardi at 404-2332145 x694 to register for the class. All scheduling
information is given at the class. (Note: Baptisms are scheduled
after the class is completed.)
THE SACRAMENT OF FIRST EUCHARIST
Preparation is a two-year process. Enrollment in Catholic
school or Parish School of Religion is required the year
prior to receiving the Sacrament.
THE SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE
A minimum of six months preparation is required. Call the
Parish office, 404-233-2145 x673 for information and to
register for the preparation process.
THE SACRAMENT OF PENANCE
Monday and Wednesday, 7:15-7:45 am and 6-6:30 pm.
Saturday, 8:30-9 am and 3-4 pm, in the Cathedral.
SACRAMENT OF ANOINTING OF THE SICK
Please inform Pastoral Care Ministries of anyone homebound, shut
-in or hospitalized so that they may receive the Sacraments.
