Stade Pierre-Mauroy
Exterity IP video enables Stade Pierre-Mauroy to offer
totally immersive fan experiences
Being part of the action is every stadium visitor’s dream, but with new stadiums getting bigger
than ever, creating an immersive fan experience is a considerable challenge. To tackle this issue and
rival France’s four largest stadiums, the 50,000 seat strong Stade Pierre-Mauroy in Lille has installed
380 screens around the premises to live broadcast the venue’s content. This ensures that fans can
appreciate up close the beauty of the games and shows held on the pitch, wherever they are within
the stadium.

CASE STUDY | Stade Pierre-Mauroy
The challenge
The largest stadium in Northern France and one of the venues of
the UEFA Euro 2016 Championship, Stade Pierre-Mauroy hosts close
to 40 events, including popular sports games and concerts such as
football and rugby and even tennis, basketball or handball in the
arena set-up. In addition, the stadium hosts all home games of Lille
Olympique Sporting Club (LOSC). These varied occasions require
a video distribution system that can easily scale to the public
capacity, as well as enable real-time distribution of high quality
content produced by the stadium itself. In addition, the venue
needs a system that can seamlessly adapt to music concerts, such as
Rihanna’s upcoming world tour.
All these considerations led Stade Pierre-Mauroy to deploy an
Exterity IP video system to offer tailored content to displays across a
number of areas, including the hospitality and VIP suites.
“Stade Pierre-Mauroy is a
brand new stadium, and as
such, we wanted to ensure that
we provided state-of-the-art
experiences. To achieve this, we
produce and deliver tailored
content to close to 400 screens
around the stadium, and we
wanted a system that would help
us to offer the best experience
to all our visitors. By combining
high quality with centralized
management, the Exterity system
enables us to easily distribute
the right content to the right
audience, and even facilitate the
delivery of multiple live event
feeds during busy times.”

The solution
Exterity worked with Stade Pierre-Mauroy to deploy an IP video
system that interfaces with the existing digital signage solution
to enable the distribution of tailored content produced by the
stadium, as well as digital terrestrial and satellite TV channels.
The system is centrally monitored, providing the stadium with an
effective way to control authorizations for each piece of content.
This enables Stade Pierre-Mauroy to deliver different messages to
fans in the main stand seats and corporate guests in the hospitality
suites, ensuring that it offers a tailored experience to attendees.

The result
The Exterity system was integrated into the stadium’s global AV system and put to
use immediately upon completion. The system carries both live feeds and prepared
content in high definition, enabling visitors to enjoy all the action as it happens,
regardless of their location. The Exterity IP video system is now used to broadcast all
the venue’s events, and will be instrumental in airing the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament
matches.
Colin Farquhar, CEO at Exterity, added: “Stadiums are increasingly used for much
more than hosting sporting events, creating additional communication challenges.
Our system provides a seamless, real-time entertainment experience throughout the
stadium and enables Stade Pierre-Mauroy to share the news it produces to the right
audience easily, making it a perfect solution for the stadium’s communication needs.”
