These essential abstract components take shape as I paint. While applying the layers of paint; the colors, luminosity, textures and spaces change and many times seem to have a mind of their own. The spirit and feeling of a deep connection with people and nature moves me. My art form is hand painting photographs. After shooting a great photo, a black and white print is made. The print is than painted with Marshall’s Photo Oils, using Q-tips, made from toothpicks and cotton. I have the option of painting as much of the image as I want, sometimes a lot and other times, just a single part. I’ve been commissioned to do pet portraits and have won awards for my landscapes. My medium is mostly soft pastels which I love for their pure vibrant colors. Currently I am a member of: PSC, Glenwood Springs Art Guild & The Center for the Arts Evergreen. I may even get brave to do something abstract. Found vintage objects are recontrived into sculptures of whimsical characters. The potential a ‘find’ has within it is thrilling to me and the outcome often unpredictable. Old gauges, rusted gears, doorknobs and utensils to name a few, all find new meaning in my studio.
