Evergreen Country Day School ANNUAL REPORT 2014-2015 Our Mission: Inspiring the Young Minds of our Future Message from Our Head of School The 2014-15 academic school year proved yet another of significant progress for Evergreen Country Day School, and representative of a decade of inspiring improvement spanning every element of our school community. ACADEMICS CHARACTER COMMUNITY SAFETY INDIVIDUALITY Countr y Day offers a challenging program that provides both a strong ac ademic f oundation and the skills necessary for success in today’s changing world. Through small class sizes, a differentiated approach, integrated technology, and pr ogress monitoring, Country Day recognizes that each child is unique with a diverse learning style. The school utilizes each child’s strengths with a dynamic offering of extra-curricular activities and electives. Country Day recognizes that the development of strong values and character traits is an essential skill for success. Universal values that include responsibility, integrity, and respect are ingrained in the culture of the school. Essential character traits that include leadership, communication, confidence and perseverance are promoted as part of the curriculum and every day experience of each child. C ount r y Day b e lieve s the strength of the communit y leads to a positive school culture. All members of the school have a responsibility to contribute to both the internal school community and greater local community. A sense of community is fostered through town meetings, service, traditions, and mentoring relationships between older and younger students. Country Day recognizes the importance of a safe environment. Through planning, training, and support systems for students, Country Day takes the necessary steps to ensure that we have an environment that is both physically and emotionally safe for our students. Country Day consists of individuals with unique interests, perspectives and talents. The school community celebrates individual differences and recognizes that each child has their own, equally important contributions to make to the community. In 2008, we cut the ribbon to open officially our amazing main campus building. While our campus is not yet fully complete, our facilities rival our country’s most impressive independent schools and are a gift given to us graciously by our founding families. Isaac Newton reminds us in the spirit of scientific discovery that we “stand on the shoulders of giants.” One scientific discovery gives way to another, and another, and another. Such is scientific progress and such is school progress. Each and every one of us who calls Evergreen Country Day School their school home has benefitted mightily by the efforts and sacrifices of the giants who have gone before us. Gratitude is our appropriate initial response, of course. Next is our even more important response: how we choose to build upon the gift we have been given. Our collective opportunity now is to be the giants for the next generation of Country Day Eagles. As stewards of an incredible school entrusted to us, standing firmly on our predecessors’ shoulders, we are now able to see farther and envision further new, previously unfathomable ideas on behalf of our students and families. So what will we dream up? What will we build? What new programs will we implement? What legacy will we leave? May the next chapter of our school’s story answer those questions, and in audaciously inspiring ways. With much appreciation for your steadfast support of our school, Brad Davies Head of School 2014-15 Highlights: Class of 2015 Our Graduates will continue their academic pursuits at the following schools: Clear Creek H.S., Colorado Academy, Evergreen H.S., Lakewood IB, Mullen H.S. and Vail Ski & Snowboard Academy CONGRATULATIONS to our class of 2015! GRANDPARENTS DAY HOLIDAY FEST At this year’s PTO fundraiser, WISH Upon a Star, Country Day parents rallied to raise over $64,000 to support the creation of the new Jackson Innovation Lab. This lab is an extension of the Science & Discovery Center and enhances our project-based learning objectives by providing opportunities for innovative learning for every student at every grade level. Students at the Main Campus now have access to a 3-D printer, robotics equipment, film equipment, PASCOE sensors, sound and music mixing equipment and more. Our Nest students now enjoy interactive musical components at the new Nest playground. FATHER-DAUGHTER DANCE MOTHER-SON BOWLING The lab is aptly named in honor of former Head of School, Benjamin Jackson, for his ten years of dedication to Evergreen Country Day School. Ben has always been an advocate for integrating innovative learning opportunities for all students, and this legacy of learning will continue in the Jackson Innovation Lab.
