Often we mull over an event that has already happened. Frequently we come to the
conclusion that we had responded unwisely and regret it. We wish we had acted differently.
Here is an interesting story by Osho. A medical student John had cleared all his written exams
and practicals. The last hurdle was an oral examination by the medical board comprising
experts. They described the theoretical case of a patient who was dying of a critical illness
and suggested a prescription. Then they wanted John to prescribe the dosage. Without any
hesitation whatsoever he said “I would administer a full dose”. The Board abruptly ended the
test saying “Thank you John, the oral examination is over”.
Even as John started walking out it dawned on him that the full dosage was a lethal poison
that would immediately kill the patient. He turned back and tried to revise his reply and
suggested half the original dose. The board said “Sorry, your original prescription has already
killed the patient. He is now dead. How can you treat a dead man? Please come back for
the examination next year with better preparation”. John rued his thoughtless reply. He went
back thinking ‘if only I had thought about it, and given the right reply...!’ But the damage was
already done. It could not be undone.
Osho then goes on to explain that it is not thoughtlessness that lets us down. Our mind
is usually contaminated with dirt, due to which we cannot see a problem clearly. If we are
looking through a dirty pair of glasses we cannot view an object clearly nor can we focus
on it. Likewise, if we are looking into a dirty mirror or in failing light we cannot see our own
image clearly. Even if we make the best efforts and focus all our thought on it, our eyes will
fail us.
In the same manner we need to approach
any problem with a clean and clear mind.
If the mind is contaminated by extraneous
or negative thoughts we will fail to focus
on the problem at hand. Even very hard
thinking will not help solve the problem.
Only meditation and concentration drives
out the accumulated dirt from our mind
just as only a clean wiping cloth can clean
the mirror or our glasses.
A clear serene mind is what is needed.
Often we find ourselves in the situation of John the
medical student. Like him, we cannot reverse what
has happened. Here is the commonest example.
In a fit of temper and arrogance we utter words that can hurt the listener. Later we feel
ashamed of our behaviour. Yes, we did display mastery over our vocabulary of hurtful words.
They came out of us because our mind was contaminated or intoxicated.
EDITOR - LOGUE
The truth is that a word once uttered cannot be taken back. The damage done will not go
away even if we repent our behaviour and apologise a thousand times for the intemperate
language. There is a wise saying in Tamil ‘theeinal sutta vadu aarume, aaraade naavinaal
sutta vadu’. It means that a burn caused by fire may heal but a hurt caused by an insult will
never heal. That shows the power of the spoken word. Once it leaves your lips, it cannot be
retracted. Politicians frequently say something hastily. Their words are captured by the media.
Then they try to deny their own remarks sheepishly only to be lampooned and shamed by
the media which joyously replays their quote umpteen times, exposing their blatant lie. It
results in double jeopardy. Their credibility goes for a toss and they are proved to be liars.
There are other things too that cannot be relived. For example if we have failed to say the
right thing when the opportunity presents itself, however much we repent for our silence, it
is not possible to revisit the occasion. Time is something that passes us by. Often there is the
right time to act. If that moment is not seized it won’t recur. A delayed response will never
equal a timely response in its efficacy. After an accident or heart attack there is the golden
hour within which the victim should be rushed to the hospital and given the right treatment
to save his life. If that vital time elapses, it means death.
The most telling example of irreversibility is death itself. That uncertainty is like the proverbial
sword of Damocles that should rid us of our habit of procrastination. Poet Kabir’s couplet
said “Kal Kare So Aaj Kar, Aaj Kare So Ab, Pal Mein Pralaya Hoyegi, Bahuri Karoge Kub”. It
means ‘Do tomorrow's work today and today’s work this minute. A deluge may occur any
time. How then will the work be done?’
In the final analysis looking back with regrets or performing a post mortem is always in
vain. Act or desist on merit. Keep your mind clean, alert and without bias. Meditation and
concentration will help. Catch the wind
so that the kite may fly!!

Vetriamaran – He has directed only 2 Movies till now. But, without any
doubt, he is one of the most respected directors in Tamil Cinema. His
first movie ‘’Polladhavan’’ was commercial blockbuster, while his second
movie ‘’Aadukalam’’ fetched him National Awards. Now, he is back with
his third movie, which has already fetched him, lots of International
awards. Lots of celebrities praised the movie like anything, which created
good expectations for the movie among people who love unique movies
in Tamil Cinema. Let us see whether this movie satisfies the Common
Man in this review.
Story – First half of the movie revolves around how Andhra Police tortures Dinesh & his
friends to accept that they have stolen money (though they haven’t). Second half revolves
around how few Tamil Nadu Police impacts their life.
Dinesh – He must have definitely struggled a lot & underwent lots of physical pain to do
this role. He gave wonderful performance in Cuckoo & has done it yet again.
Aadukalam Murugadoss – He comes throughout the movie with Dinesh like second hero
& has done his role to perfection. His body language & dialogue delivery were excellent.
Samuthirakani – He does the role of a Police Officer yet again. He fits the role of a good
person or villain easily & hence, it is difficult to identify his characterization. Hence, he
does complete justice to his role, as audience keeps guessing whether he is good or bad
cop till the climax. Kishore – He is one of the underrated actors in Tamil Cinema. He
doesn’t have big scope to perform, but has done what the characterization needs.
Anandhi – She almost does a cameo in the movie & only those 2 scenes feels like
commercial compromise in the movie.
Music Director G.V. Prakash – Absolutely no songs in the movie. G.V makes sure that the
tension exists throughout the movie with his wonderful BGM.
Cinematographer Ramalaingam – First half happens almost at single location & he
makes sure that audience doesn’t feel it with various angles.
Editor Late Kishore – Tamil Cinema will miss him to huge extent.
Director Vetrimaran – Kudos
to him for giving credits to the book ‘’Lock-Up’’,
though only first half of the
movie was adapted from it. Hence, there is huge
difference
between
first half & second half. He is one of the few
directors, who doesn’t
bother about commercial ingredients & tries to
take Tamil Cinema to the next level. Usually,
people advertise stating that the movie is for
family & commercial audience. But, Visaranai team
openly advertised that the movie is not for weakhearted people. Hence, we are not going to rate
this movie as Common Man.
It is a World Cinema, which takes our Tamil
Cinema to the next level.
Bangalore Naatkal is official remake of “Bangalore Days”, Malayalam’s biggest
blockbuster of 2014. It was an urban centric romantic-comedy drama movie
with wonderful chemistry & performance by the lead characters (Fahad
Faasil, Nivin Pauly, Dulquer Salmaan, Nazriya, Parvathy, etc) was awesome.
Bangalore Naatkal too has good actors & it is directed by ‘’Bommarillu’’
Bhaksar (Santhosh Subramaniam was remake of ‘’Bommarillu’’ movie. Let us
see whether the plot & characters impresses the Tamil audience too in this
Common Man review.
Story: Movie revolves around the life of 3 Cousins – Sri Divya, Arya & Simha. Sri Divya gets
married & moves to Bangalore with Raana, while Simha gets IT Job in Bangalore. Hence,
Dulquer decides to move to Bangalore. What happens in their Bangalore life forms the
crux of the story.
Arya – He has tried his best for the characterization, but it fits him to only some extent.
Simha – He doesn’t fit the role & his getup doesn’t help him too.
Sridivya – It is difficult to get characterization like this for a heroine in Tamil Cinema.
She has grabbed it with both hands. She has dubbed her own voice & definitely, one of
the best performer in the movie.
Rana – He has given his best as Sridivya’s husband.
Saranya Ponvannan– She is the only actor, who has performed much better than the
original one. She completely fits the role & engages the audience with her wonderful
acting.
Parvathy – She did the same characterization in original version & has rocked yet again
Samantha, Prakash Raj, Lakshmi Rai, etc does cameo & disappears before making the
impact. Cinematographer Guhan - Each & every frame looks colourful. Costume designer
needs special mention.
Editor Marthand Venkatesh – Movie moves at his own pace from scene 1 & hence, 150
Minutes duration acts as the spoilsport.
Music Director Gopi Sunder– Songs could have been better. BGM was too good.
Director ‘Bommarillu’ Bhaskar has decided to recreate the magic of Bangalore
Days, without making many changes. He has succeeded to some extent, though the
dialogues doesn’t impact that much. People out here don’t have as much attraction
towards Bangalore as
it is almost similar to Chennai. Hence,
people couldn’t connect much with it.
He could have been little more careful
with the casting as the lead male
characters doesn’t do
complete justice to their
roles.

might move up and forward a bit. Try to relax. Try
to loosen up by shaking the shoulders a bit and
move them back slightly.
Nod when they are talking – nod once in a while to
signal that you are listening. But don’t overdo it.
Have you ever given a thought what part of our
communication communicates
amount of information?
the
maximum
The words which we spell out? | The tone? |
Or the way we articulate?
Well these may be accounted as a part but the
major portion is what we call “Body Language”
According to Albert Mehrabian, of our
communication, words account for 7%, tone of
voice accounts for 38%, and body language
accounts for 55% of the liking. They are often
abbreviated as the "3 Vs" for Verbal, Vocal & Visual
Body language being the most significant part
of communication process as such, mastering it
provides an edge over others. In current corporate
scenario, interview processes do consists of
various rounds in order to observe the body
language of the interviewee.
Body language is a part of nonverbal language.
It includes things like stance, gestures, facial
expressions, and even small things that are barely
perceptible like a brief shrug of the shoulder or nod
of the head
There are many ways to learn to interpret body
language but it must be understood that these are
frequently specific to a culture. For instance in the
US we wave good bye with the palm facing the
person we’re waving to, and the fingers may open
and close. In other cultures, waving goodbye may
occur with the hand palm up to the sky, and the
fingers opening and closing. To people in the US,
this might look like a gesture asking someone to
approach rather than a wave goodbye.
How to work on body language
There is no specific advice on how to use your
body language. What you do might be interpreted
in several ways, depending on the setting and
who you are talking to. You’ll probably want to
use your body language differently when talking
to your boss compared to when you talk to a girl/
guy you’re interested in. These are some common
interpretations of body language and often more
effective ways to communicate with your body.
Don’t cross your arms or legs – You have probably
already heard you shouldn’t cross your arms as it
might make you seem defensive or guarded. This
holds good your legs too. Keep your arms and
legs open.
Have eye contact, but don’t stare – If there are
several people you are talking to, give them all
some eye contact to create a better connection and
see if they are listening. Keeping too much eyecontact might creep people out. Giving no eyecontact might make you seem insecure.
Don’t be afraid to take up some space – Taking up
space by for example sitting or standing with your
legs apart a bit signals self-confidence and that
you are comfortable in your own skin.
Relax your shoulders – When you feel tense it’s
easily winds up as tension in your shoulders. They
Don’t slouch; sit up straight – but in a relaxed
way, not in a too tense manner.
Smile – lighten up, don’t take yourself too
seriously. Relax a bit, smile and laugh when
someone says something funny. People will be
a lot more inclined to listen to you if you seem
to be a positive person. Smile when you are
introduced to someone but don’t keep a smile
plastered on your face, you’ll seem insincere.
Don’t touch your face – it might make you seem
nervous and can be distracting for the listeners
or the people in the conversation.
Keep your head up – Don’t keep your eyes on the
ground, it might make you seem insecure and
a bit lost. Keep your head up straight and your
eyes towards the horizon.
Slow down a bit – this goes for many things.
Walking slower not only makes you seem more
calm and confident, it will also make you feel less
stressed. If someone addresses you, don’t snap
your neck in their direction, turn it a bit more
slowly instead.
Don’t fidget and try to avoid, phase out or
transform fidgety movement and nervous ticks
such as shaking your leg or tapping your fingers
against the table rapidly. You’ll seem nervous and
fidgeting can be a distracting when you try to get
something across.
Use your hands more confidently instead of
fidgeting with your hands and scratching your
face use them to communicate what you are
trying to say. Use your hands to describe
something or to add weight to a point you are
trying to make. But don’t use them to much or
it might become distracting. And don’t let your
hands f lail around, use them with some control.
Don’t stand too close –Let people have their
personal space, don’t invade it.
Keep a good attitude – last but not least, keep a
positive, open and relaxed attitude. How you feel
will come through in your body language and
can make a major difference.
You can change your body language
but as all new habits it takes a while.
Especially things like keeping you head
up might take time to correct if you have
spent thousands of days looking at your
feet. And if you try and change to many
things at once it might become confusing
and feel overwhelming.
Take a couple of these body language
bits to work on every day for three to
four weeks. By then they should have
developed into new habits and something
you’ll do without even thinking about it.
If not, keep on until it sticks. Then take
another couple of things you’d like to
change and work on them.
Twist to
your
scarf
drapes
Bored of your usual way of
draping a scarf? Here are few
twist that you could add on.
The Casual Loop
Fold your scarf in half.
Wrap your scarf around you neck, creating a loop on the closed end.
Pull the other side of the scarf through the loop.
Fluff the material around your neck
RacerBack vest scarf
Fold your scarf in half.
Tie one folded corner with one end corner
Drape it around your neck. Now, you have a racerback vest. Amazing,
isn't it?
Scarf to
Shawl
Put the scarf around you
shoulders with its free
ends at the back.
Tie a loose knot at the
back with the two ends
and cover it with scarf.
Now adjust the shawl
from the front.
