This is the position that we here at CRM now find ourselves. Fisher Award for Excellence in Property Management has been given each year since 1995 in the memory of Mike Fisher, an Executive Property Manager who was employed by CRM from 1982 to his very untimely death in 1995. The essence of Mike Fisher, and the way we will remember him is as a gentleman who was forever forthright, totally honest, always the “team player” and always ready, willing and able to respond to duty. His memory is perpetuated by the award given in his name. This year, as usual, the selection of a recipient was most difficult since CRM is blessed with so many outstanding managers. However, two individuals were clearly front runners for their excellence in management. Connie Jones, and Jilnell Kalotia were the 2013 recipients of the Michael Fisher Award. Connie Jones, ARM®, is the was her impressive score of 100 in a recent REAC inspection. Connie is a very caring Property Manager and for those who know Connie are never surprised when they see her outside shoveling snow during a snow storm. Jilnell Kalotia, ARM®, HCCP®, is the Property Manager of Oakview Apartments a 210 unit property located in Millville, NJ. Jilnell began her career with CRM in 2004 at the Mansions as the Assistant Manager and then later as Assistant Manager with The Greens I & II located in Pine Hill, NJ, before becoming Property Manager at Oakview 2013 Fisher Award Winners: Connie Jones, ARM®, Apartments. HILLCREST COMMONS RECOGNIZED FOR OUTSTANDING TURNAROUND OF A TROUBLED PROPERTY. Hillcrest Commons, formerly known as Sunnyslope Apartments, is located in the rural area of Philipsburg, PA. When Community Realty Management took over the troubled property in April 2006, the occupancy rate was 80 percent and delinquencies were more than 64 percent. Management immediately tackled the issue of drug activity in the community with the aid of police. Major capital improvements were made possible through markup to-market funding that enabled improvements costing $445,000 over the last seven years. This included replacing siding, roofs and windows, resurfacing all hardscapes and renovating the interiors of both units and common areas. Management also revamped its internal controls after conducting an exhaustive audit of files and systems. Onsite staff received extensive training so that they could become familiar with the wide gamut of HUD regulations. Success is demonstrated by receipt of a superior rating in May 2011 review. Property staff provides a positive environment for residents that includes educational, literacy and other programs and has built a strong partnership with outside agencies to provide additional services. The award was presented on March 10, 2014 at NAHMA’s conference in Washington, DC Pag e 4 CR M Ne ws l et t er - Sp r in g 2 0 14 THE GREENS WINS PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS This past September the Apartment Association of Greater Philadelphia awarded The Greens at Pine Hill THREE awards. The prestigious awards were for Maintenance Excellence for The Greens at Pine Hill I, Maintenance Excellence at The Greens II and Leasing Excellence. The presentation took place at the “Best in Apartment Living Awards” dinner banquet and was attended by Michelle Storino, EPM, Tara Silver, The Greens Property Manager and Stephanie Simmons, The Greens Assistant Manager. This is a HUGE achievement for our properties, as our competition included the biggest names in conventional property management. True teamwork led to this accomplishment. Please join us in applauding the entire ‘Greens Team’ on a tremendous effort. FAREWELL TO IRV YEAGLE - Continued from page 1 with Mark Borowsky our Vice President of Finance, Emeritus. Irv will be remembered as a role model, boss, mentor and friend. I cannot find sufficient words for the gratitude, esteem and affection that I have for him. Those feelings resonate throughout the entire CRM family. Speaking for the organization and myself personally, we all wish Irv the happiest retirement possible. We will work to maintain all of the positive attributes and qualities that he lived by and exemplified as the leader of this company. Irv Yeagle, CPM®, CRM’s President Emeritus with Michael Simmons, CPM®, NAHPe, President & CEO of CRM Best wishes Irv, you will be missed.
