Music has been a part of Human culture for thousands of years. It has
been enjoyable to most people in its many forms around the world. It
most likely evolved with the human species in Africa and spread around the world. Music
is influenced by culture, climate, access to technology but most of all by human emotions.
Music first probably imitated sounds found in the surrounding nature such as bird calls
and progressed into folk, classical, country, pop, electronic and all other forms we
experience today. The history of music is best heard. The settlers of our area probably
did not hear much native American music and they later acquired instruments and music
from their native lands.
Common instruments of the past were: First of all the human voice.
The native materials around them allowed them to create instruments.
At first hollow gourds could be formed into ocarina like instruments and long
plants formed into flute like instruments. Larger plants combined with skins
were made into drums. Strings could be formed from natural materials and
animal parts and stretched over hollow openings to form dulcimer or violin like
instruments or over drums to form banjo like instruments. As our area was largely settled
in the middle 1800s craftsmen had already created fine examples of the classical
instruments we now know. The most common of course was the fiddle, pump organ, fife,
concertina, forms of lap harps.
The harmonica was invented in Vienna before 1824 but few
showed up in America until around the time of the Civil War. It
was a pocket instrument, inexpensive and easy to play. President
Lincoln carried a harmonica in his pocket. The Red Cross gave
them out to troops in WWII.
Of course the instrument we hear most about is the fiddle. It
was a challenging instrument to play. But often it was the only
instrument in the family.
The Guitar was a late comer but became a folk favorite instrument.

There were many other instruments used in the old days. Some were hand made or
bought by mail order.
The all time best and most versatile instrument has been the organ. Prior to electricity
they had to be pumped by foot power. The music had a wide range. Many a home in the
1800s had pump organs. Big like this one or more common smaller version see below.

Above you see a majic eye which was a vacumm tube which looked like an eye and
changed its appearence with the power of the radio signal. It was used to tune the
radio to the best signal.
Above left you see an early radio set called a crystal radio because it used a piece of
crystalline mineral such as galena which acted as a diode separating the audio signal
from the radio frequency signal. These sets used just the power of the radio waves.
They needed no batteries. You tuned it by sliding a slider across a coil of wire. You
had to string a long antenna as far and as high as you could to trap the signals. These
radios actually worked and one could listen to a few stations.

Humans in communities across the United States and the world need a
Code of Conduct for all Humans. That Code of Conduct should be:
Bring no harm to another by your actions or inaction, Don't do to others
what you would not want done to yourself. In other words Love one
Another and Kindness needs to be the standard. This should be made the
expectation of all human conduct. Those who seriously violate this or
support those who deprive others of their full human rights, and those
who support killing, should be deported to a DPI (deserted pacific
island.) Rather than spend $25-35,000 a year each to warehouse career
criminals (about 1/5 of our state budget) let's ship them to a
DPI(deserted Pacific island). This includes AIG executives and other
greedy CEOs and bankers who forced many hard working families out
of their homes. We need to create Ample For All not wealth for the
greedy. We the working people are fed up with being exploited. We
demand equal and fair treatment. We should get the same medical, and
retirement as members of congress. No CEO or other officer of an
organization should be allowed to receive more than 10 times the rate of
the lowest paid employee.
For too long we have been complacent about the workings of Congress.
Many citizens had no idea that members Congress could retire with
same pay after only one term, they specifically exempted themselves
from laws passed (such as being exempt any fear prosecution sexual
harassment) while ordinary must live under those laws. latest was to
Healthcare Reform ... in all its forms. Somehow, doesn't seem logical. do
not an elite is above law.
It doesn't matter if they are Democrat, Republican, or Independent.
Congress should be correcting and passing laws that serves and protects
us citizens, not just the rich and special interest groups. We need an
independent party of the people, not these rich guy clubs whose purpose
is to fill their bank accounts with our hard earned money. While most of
us struggle just to pay the bills, did you know congress just got another
big raise in the thousands of dollars to go along with their free
healthcare, outrageous retirement packages, 67 paid holidays, three
weeks paid vacation, and unlimited paid sick days, (now that's welfare.)
Perhaps we should throw them all out. A Constitutional Convention this is a good way to do that. It is an idea whose time has come. This is
one proposal that really should be passed around. Proposed 28th
Amendment to the United States Constitution - "Congress shall make no
law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply
equally to the Senators and/or Representatives; and, Congress shall
make no law that applies to the Senators and/or Representatives that
does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States.

Another Idea that needs to be put into law is that Private and public
organizations should not be permitted to sell information about you
without your written permission.
We the working people are fed up with being exploited. We demand
equal and fair treatment.
Make The Golden Rule the expectation and standard of
human conduct.

remember when you were an Eagle Scout when I did a short stint in BSA. I lived next
door to Skipper and Andrew Perch and their dad was a scoutmaster. Thanks to you
and Mike Grobbel for your great work.
The two most quoted persons are myself the old historian Prof Wesley Arnold and
Mike Grobbel who has done outstanding research on Center Line related History.
There are some things that need to be put into print for the sake of our younger
generation who need to know about them but often don't. Here they are:
American Way of Life
America was to millions both the hope and a dream come true. People came here from
many countries where many (but not all) had been oppressed, many had lived in poverty,
did not have freedom. Some had been tortured or had lived in death camps. Many had
little education. Many came here to find religious freedom. Many came here for the
opportunity to earn a decent living.
Most came here to make a better life for themselves, their families and children.
Most came here penny-less, with no food, home or relatives and just the clothes on their
back.
They worked hard and long and created a better life for themselves. Many became rich.
The American dream was that one had the freedom to work hard and create a better life for
their children. And millions did just that. Of course there were opportunities to work and
support a family. In recent years the wealthy greedy have taken away many of those
opportunities in order to make themselves even more wealthy. The curse of corporate
greed for endless profit for the stockholders and officers was at the sacrifice of the
workers. Automation and robotization replaced human labor with unpaid machine labor.
Leaving millions without the means to earn a living. And perhaps worse was corporate
greed that did not allow for a living wage and sufficient work hours for workers to earn a
decent standard of living.
When I was young men could easily find jobs and support their families and buy a
new car with just the husband working. I did it. Now with husband and wife both
working long hours often they can barely pay the bills they have. Forget about buying a
new car or taking a vacation. In many other countries workers have a paid summer
vacation, medical care and their children can attend four years of college. It appears that
America is becoming a third world country. We the working class are less happy, less
wealthy, work longer hours for less, often cant take even a small vacation, and don't have
decent medical care. What happened? The working class has become the forgotten
class. And justice is for the rich. If one needs an attorney they are so high priced as to
make it nearly impossible for the average person to pay the bill. Attorneys getting
hundreds of dollars per hour. I have seen poor people mistreated in the justice system.
Corporate officer salaries are now often in the six to seven digit range. Higher

governmental officials are often paid excessively high salaries. CEO and Corporate
greed abound at the expense of the ordinary worker. Even congressmen are overpaid
and have excessive benefits you and I can not achieve in a lifetime. Somethings are going
wrong in America. Citizen apathy (not caring and not paying attention to what congress
and what the government is doing) along with corporate greed has caused this.
As for Education. Children in many other countries outscore American
children in almost every subject. America is not producing enough engineers to keep up
and has to import foreign engineers.
And there are problems with immigration which need to be fixed. One that has
been ignored is allowing people into our country who do not intend to abide by the
constitution and our laws and in fact plan to over throw our American Way of life and
freedom.
These are things we need to correct or we will lose our freedom and way of life.
Many younger people do not know what our “American Way of Life” is so College
professor Wesley Arnold put down in a pretty picture what I think it is.

And here is what should be the basis for actions.
If this was used as a basis of actions what a better world and life we could have.
I feel that this is of such great importance that I have put is in several of my books in hope
that people will at least see it and think about it. My apologies for the repetition.
I think I will sent these to some of the presidential candidates for more national exposure.
