Seeking Volunteers
A benefit for Adelante celebrating the dance
of tango has been booked for the evenings
of May 25th and 26th. The entertainment
will feature performances by the Tango Zone
Dance Company from New York City followed by a traditional milonga (tango dance
party).
These Friday and Saturday evenings promise the opportunity to get dressed up, enjoy
both a professional performance and the
enthusiasm of local tango aficionados, and
mixing and mingling in support of a worthy
cause. Visit TangoZoneEvent.com for tickets
at $25/person and all the details.
Please spread the word among your friends
and acquaintances. All proceeds benefit the
programs and services of Adelante that support over 860 individuals with disabilities.
One can also make arrangements for tickets or any of the various levels of event sponsorship (that include a number of tickets for
both the entertainment and VIP Reception),
by contacting the Adelante Development Office, (505) 341-7130.

Volunteer Brings Joy and Music to Adelante
After retiring as an ombudsman from Sandia National Laboratories, Don Noack was looking
for a way to combine his two passions: music and helping people. “ When I was 17 I was in
a small band, and we played at a state mental health institution in Texas. It was for a group
of developmentally disabled young people, and it really touched my heart,” says Don.
Luckily, a solicitation mailing from Adelante arrived as Don was retiring from Sandia National Labs. He responded with a donation and indicated he’d like to learn about volunteer
opportunities. After touring two different Adelante
locations, Don was inspired to play music for the
people he’d met. Every week now, he plays keyboard
for the clients both at the Compadres Senior Center
and the Legacy program at Al Friedman Center.
Don says what he enjoys most about volunteering
for Adelante are the positive reactions he gets to different songs he plays. “ Usually when a song is a favorite
of someone, they’ll be very vocal about it. And I like to
see them slap their hands on their knees or the arm of
the chair, or even get up and dance.”
The staff also enjoy the music and Don wants to be
sure their hard work doesn’t go unnoticed, “They have

Former Board Member
Thank you to all the generous
individuals and organizations who have
donated to Adelante and helped people
with disabilities discover and implement
their goals in life.
To donate please contact the Development Office at 505.449.4033 or make a donation online at www.GoAdelante.org.
Thankful for the New Secure Document Center
Thanks to major donors like Lee and Cliff Blaugrund, their sister
Linda Alongi, and the City of Albuquerque, Adelante was able to
acquire this 30,000 square foot commerial building in the warehouse district of Albuquerque.
Document Destruction Services (DDS) and Document Imaging Services (DIS) relocated here from their respective sites in
mid-January. Jim Bullard (VP of Management Systems) and Robin
Johnson (Director of Business Operations) headed up this considerable feat of relocating two enterprises. Kudoes to the rest of the
staff who were engaged in this relocation, for all their teamwork
with such an undertaking -- the logistics involved regarding moving
hefty industrial equipment, for example.
This Secure Document Center at 1618 1st St NW boasts the
highest security measures within the industry in New Mexico.
Customers of these two affirmative businesses can be confident
that their documents with confidential information will not fall
into the wrong hands.
The March 2012 quarterly Board of Directors Meeting was
held at the Secure Document Center, which included a tour of the facility
and its operations prior to
convening for their meeting
in the center’s conference
room.
Staff are presently attending to any additional
finishing details such as
exterior painting and signage to prep for the Grand
Opening celebration of this
high-security Document
Center combined with the
Annual Donor Appreciation
Event. These dual events
have been scheduled onsite
for Thursday, May 31st.

Friends In Time Urgently Needs Volunteers
The Friends In Time (FIT) program is largely volunteerpowered in how it provides support for individuals debilitated by chronic neuromuscular disease such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) -- aka Lou Gehrig’s disease,
or severe multiple sclerosis (MS). Volunteers are urgently
needed to assist FIT clients with simple tasks. Typical assistance could be helping with minor household chores, a
friendly visit, help with writing or using a computer, walking a dog, running errands, or escorting the person during
outings. FIT staff provide helpful orientation, oversight and
on-going support to volunteers. FIT projects and occasions
can accommodate most anyone’s schedule. Could you or
someone you know spare some time to make a day a bit
brighter for someone who is
struggling with neuromuscular
disease? Please contact our
Volunteer Coordinator as noted
below.

‘a tough job,’ and they do it well.” Don concludes, “It’s a good
experience and it’s one I get a lot out of. Sometimes when
I leave there I’m really tired, but I enjoy it and want to keep
doing it.”
For more information on how you can lend your talents
and passions to volunteer activities with Adelante, please

Planned Giving
Explained
Common Types of
Planned Giving:
• Bequest
• Charitable Gift Annuity
• Charitable Remainder
Trust
• Charitable Lead Trust
• Life Estate
(aka Remainder Interest)
• Pooled Income Fund
• Bargain Sale
What Is a Pooled Income Fund?
The Pooled Income Fund is a type of charitable giving program
that combines the tax advantages of charitable giving with the
benefits of a lifetime income stream for up to two beneficiaries,
which can include the donors. This is how it works:
Give -- Make an initial contribution of securities or cash to the
Pooled Income Fund and have the potential to allow an immediate partial tax deduction.
Receive -- Up to two income beneficiaries receive lifetime
income generated by the Pooled Income Fund’s investments, in
quarterly payments.
Grant -- The remaining value of the account is distributed
to up to ten recommended charities upon the death of the last
income beneficiary. Donor-advised funds, like the Giving Account,
are eligible.
