Our Story
The Dog Studio was born out of a love of dogs, photography and
design, paired with a deep desire to give back to the incredible
canines who give their devotion to us so generously. With this new
venture, nationally-acclaimed dog photographer Amanda Jones is
sharing her 20-year collection of smart, beautiful images of dogs in
a new way — through cards, stationery, prints and more.
Amanda’s pioneering style helped change the way dogs are
portrayed in portraits, showcasing their dignity, individuality and
spirit in everything from branding campaigns to pet food packaging
and magazines. Her four published books showcase three of the
world’s most iconic breeds – Greyhounds Big and Small: Iggies
and Greyts, Dachshunds Short and Long and French bulldogs in
Frenchie Kisses, as well as the unique individuals in A Breed Apart: A
Celebration of the New American Mutt.
The Dog Studio is also a family affair. Our fresh, smart product
development and design comes from Melissa Tatge, who — as the
family likeness gives away — is Amanda’s sister. After ten years of
running a successful design and branding company and partnering
with many companies and non-profits, Melissa dreams, designs and
drives The Dog Studio’s image in everything you see — from card to
envelope to in-store to online.
And Chris Jones, Amanda’s husband and business partner, runs
the show behind the scenes, managing partnerships, production,
orders, shipping and customer service. You can only imagine dinner
conversation at the holidays.
Together, we want to keep revolutionizing the way dogs are
portrayed – and give people the chance to share their love of dogs
in a smart, fresh, and beautiful way. With a percentage of the
royalties from the images going to support innovative shelters and
rescue groups – simple cards, letters and images can add up to
more happy, healthy dogs. That goal is what really wags our tails.
About Amanda Jones
Acclaimed dog photographer Amanda Jones began her
photography career in 1992 after graduating with a degree in
Cinema and Photography from Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY.
In 1994, Amanda began photographing dogs in Maine after her best
friend brought home Ruby, a yellow Labrador Retriever puppy. Ruby
was Amanda’s first model, and inspiration for pursuing a career
working with dogs. Amanda has since been photographing dogs
and cats for clients across the United States.
Amanda has published four photography books: Greyhounds Big
and Small: Iggies and Greyts; Dachshunds Short and Long; Frenchie
Kisses; and A Breed Apart: A Celebration of the New American Mutt.
She also snuck an ebook in there, The Dog Photographer. Behind the
Lens with Amanda Jones. Amanda has a new book coming out in
Fall of 2015 called Dog Years, published by Chronicle Books.
In addition to personal portraiture, Amanda has done many, many
photoshoots for commercial clients. Her images have appeared on
packaging for Hills, Pedigree and Safeway, among others.
Amanda on the set
With her new venture The Dog Studio, Amanda hopes to bring these
wonderful images to a larger audience and share the sparkle of
each of her subjects with dog lovers all over the world.
Amanda lives in Williamstown, Massachusetts with her husband
and business partner, Chris, their daughter Sophie, and Dachshund
Benny Jones.

Amanda On Air
“There’s a lot of pet photography
that’s very cloying, very sentimental.
Amanda gets past that. She
has a good rapport with dogs
and gets them to be themselves
on camera — she gets the
expression in their eyes that you
see and say, ‘Yes, that’s my dog.’”
