New Playground … A Welcomed Gift!
SJRS has undergone several renovations and improvement to our building and grounds. This past
October through the hard work of several parent volunteers and with help from Christ the King
Parish the new playground became a permanent addition to the SJRS campus. The structure was
purchased with funds from a bequest from Barbara J. King of the Class of 1953 as well as a gift
from the Friends of St. John Foundation. On the hottest days in September, Mike Krar, Gerry
Gendron, and Doug Carson labored to set the posts and assemble this large piece of equipment.
In early October our eighth graders spent several hours spreading three truckloads of bark mulch
to cover the ground. Since the opening of the playground hardly a school day has gone by without
many of the younger (and even older) students climbing, swinging and sliding on the equipment.
This has become a great addition to the school.
This past summer the school had a new heating system installed. With help from Christ the King
Parish we had two natural gas furnaces installed. Also, new pipes and registers carry the heat
throughout the building. Each classroom is individually controlled for greater efficiency. We look
forward to our heating bills being reduced by more than 50%. Additional improvements include
new stair treads, refurbishing some of the outside brick work, a canopy to deflect snow and ice
from the main entrance, and a new ceiling in two areas in the basement. We extend a sincere
thank you to those who have helped make these improvements to our school.

Teacher Profiles
Christopher Larochelle
Emily Berube
Christopher Larochelle is the
Language Arts teacher for
students in grades 6-8 this
year. A graduate of University
of New Hampshire at
Manchester and Granite State
College, Mr. Larochelle is
excited to work with students
on their writing and reading
skills. “It’s great to be in a
Catholic school environment
again, since I went to Catholic
schools as a student in grades 1-12. At a place like St. John
Regional, everyone really gets the chance to know one
another and work together to make a great school
community.” When he isn’t at school, Mr. Larochelle
keeps busy with plenty of reading, running, cooking, and
playing bass.
Emily Berube is our
kindergarten teacher. She grew
up in the suburbs of New York
and then attended Dartmouth
College where she did research
on the neuroscience of early
reading. She then taught first
grade in a Vermont town while
completing her Masters degree
in literacy from St. Michael’s
College. Recently married, she
lives in Hooksett with her
husband and their two terriers. Mrs. Berube claims, “My
favorite part of teaching kindergarten is watching students
develop and become readers.”

SJRS 23nd Annual Auction 2015 Highlights
The October 2015 SJRS Annual Auction was a success. With the help of several corporate sponsors, the school
met its Auction goal. We extend a sincere thank you and we are deeply appreciative of the many volunteers who
worked countless hours to make our auction a huge success. Plans are already being made for the November 5,
2016 Auction so please make plans to join us. Hart’s Turkey Farm will be catering the event this year and many
good “live” and “silent” auction items will be available.

Fall Appeal Results
We are pleased to announce that the Fall Appeal, which directs
funds for the purpose of reading materials for all grade levels, was a
success. The generosity of many contributors has allowed us to sets
of reading materials for our Pre-K through Grade 2 students so that
our children may have greater opportunities to read items tailors to
their reading levels. Second, third, fourth and fifth graders will
receive new Social Studies texts. Our Junior High students will be
receiving new copies and some new titles of books to be read in
Language Arts classes.
There are many ways to contribute to SJRS. Our Annual Appeal will
start shortly. We have been helped greatly by alumni and
supporters who have remembered us with a bequest. Thank you for
your continued support.
Annual Fund
The Annual Fund is an opportunity
for alumni, family and friends to
support the school’s mission to guide
our children during their important,
formative years. Your generosity is
essential to our success, and the future
of our students.
The Annual Fund helps us with many
capital improvements like the heating
system and the playground. It also
assists us in replacing flooring when
needed. 20% of our students receive
some financial assistance, based on
family need. The Annual Appeal helps
Winter 2015-2016
to support these needs. The Annual
Appeal helps us to maintain and improve our technology equipment. We
have over 70 Chrome book computers
used by students on a rotating basis.
These along with most staff computers
are connected to the Internet through
our wireless network, which must be
updated and maintained. The Annual
Appeal also adds to the collection of
reading materials in the Sister Irene
Turgeon Learning Center.
As any service organization, a significant part of the budget of SJRS goes
to employee salaries and benefits.
During this current year 73% of the
budget is designated for these costs.
Your participation in the Annual
Fund Appeal will help keep tuition
affordable, and it will ensure that St.
John’s continues to be accessible to
all families. All donors who make a
collective donation of $250 or more to
the school within a calendar year, will
have their name added to our Giving
Tree, which hangs in the front hallway
of the main entrance by the Sr. Irene
Learning Center.
Please look for the SJRS Annual Fund
Appeal 2016, which will arrive in your
mailbox within a few weeks. Your
support is essential to our success!
