General
INTREEWEEK (Introduction Week)
Just a little bit longer to wait now before you can call yourself a full-fledged student. Your time as a student
is about to start, and we will herald this memorable event in the perfect fashion: by means of the Introduction
week 2014!
During the Introduction Week you will get to know the city of Amsterdam both as a city and as a paradise for
students. You will be assigned to a group with future fellow-students, and together with them you will
experience a week full of spectacular events and cool parties.Everything you need to know about the
Introduction Week is contained in this Programme Booklet: from the day-to-day programme, to route
descriptions and practical information about the things that require your special attention. Please read this
booklet carefully, keep it safe, and carry it with you during the entire Introduction Week! Tip: download the
Intreeweek App, the electronic programme booklet (Dutch only). We hope you will have lots of fun. Enjoy the
Introduction Week!
COMMISSIE INTREE (Introduction Committee)
The Introduction Committee had already started their activities for organising the Introduction Week in
October of last year. After months of brainstorm sessions and of organising and planning events, they are
really proud to present the results of their efforts! If you have any questions, you can turn to them. They
can be identified by their yellow shirts.
The Introduction Committee 2014 consists of the following members: Anouk, Anouk, Bas, Bas, Birgitta,
Claire, Daan, Debbie, Dinand, Dorine, Ernst, Felix, Frederique, Iris, Jairo, Jasper, Joost, Kasper, Lara, Linh,
Lisan, Lotte, Louiza, Milan, Myonne, Rik, Roos, Rosemarijn, Swaan en Tim.
We wish you lots of fun during this first week of life as a student in Amsterdam!
Crazy 88
Throughout the whole week, you and your group can participate in CRAZY88. By means of 88 crazy, funny
and daring assignments your group can win the title ‘CRAZY88-winner’ and win awesome prices. The
assignment are posted in the booklet, daily in the GeleGraaf and in the app. To participate, you’ll need: a
QR-scanner (for example the free app i-nigma) and the PIN-code of your group. The PIN-code is in the
coaches’ envelop.
Each assignment is connected to a QR-code. When you scan the code en fill in your PIN-code, your points will
automatically be added to your total group score. In some cases, after completing the assignment, you’ll
immediately receive the QR-code from a crew member. In other cases, you’ll first need to show a photo or
video as proof at the CRAZY88-desk. This desk will be present at the following events: Intree Verenigt,
Amsterdam World City, Lunch on Wednesday, Festival, Student Fair and Proost!. You can also always go to
the Intree-desk in CREA to gather your points. The interim scores will be published daily in the GeleGraaf.
Points won at District 020 also count for CRAZY88. So for District 020 you’ll also need a QR-scanner and a
PIN-code.
Wardrobe
If you have items with you on Monday that you do not need during the day, you can leave these at the day-wardrobe. If
you have met your group, you can walk together to the Binnengasthuisterrein where you can find the day-wardrobe.
You can pick up your belongings at night during Intree Verenigt at the Kop van Java. The day-wardrobe is only open on
Monday.
Wristbands
During your Faculty’s introduction event on Monday, 25August, your coaches will hand you a wristband. It is
of crucial importance that you do not lose this wristband as it is your admission pass for all events organised
4
during the entire week (the Final Party excepted; this is further explained in the next section)! If your
wristband gets loose or gets broken, bring it to the central Information Desk or to a Service Point desk, and
bring identification (passport, driving license or ID-card) . After a thorough check, you will then be given a
new wristband. If you lose your wristband, you will have to buy a new one, which will cost €15. If you have to
buy a new wristband, you also have to go to the central Information Desk with your identification.
Note: to obtain alcoholic drinks an additional wristband is needed.
Wristband for the final party
In order to be admitted to Paradiso, the Melkweg or the Sugar Factory during the Final Party on Friday, you
will need a separate wristband. During the Cultfactory on Wednesday, you can register on a list that your
coaches will collect at the Zuiveringshal. With this list your coaches can collect the Final Party wristbands on
Thursday at the Student Fair. Note: your signature on this list should be identical to the signature you signed
upon arrival, otherwise you will not receive a wristband. These signatures will be checked.
Of course, you do not have to pay anything extra for attending the Final Party; participation in this event is
fully covered by the registration fee for the Introduction Week!
Please note that non-participants to the Introduction Week can attend the Final Party as well. They can
purchase a ticket online, through www.intreeweek.nl or though Facebook. These tickets cost €17.50 a piece
(excluding service costs). When entering one of the clubs participating in the Final Party event, the ticket will
be exchanged for a special Final Party wristband.
Places to sleep at the USC
If you plan to sleep at the USC, make sure you provide your own sleeping bag and sleeping mat or airbed,
because the Intree Committee will not be providing these. The dormitories (for Dutch students only) are
open every evening from 23:00 onwards. By 10:30 the following morning, everyone is expected to have
vacated the USC. Between 10:30 and 23:00 the USC is closed, so you will not be able to get to your things!
Note that on Thursday morning you can sleep late: that day the dormitories have to be vacated by 12:30 at
the latest. Breakfast however will be served only until 11.30. Luckily, lunch will start at 13.00 at the
Amsterdam Convention Factory.
The USC is situated in the Science Park complex. The address is Science Park 306, and it is easily accessible
by public transport. From Amsterdam Central Station, take the all-stations train to Lelystad and get off at
Amsterdam Science Park. From there to the USC is about a 10-minute walk. Bus 40 goes to the Science Park
as well; this bus has stops at Amsterdam Amstel Station and Amsterdam Muiderpoort Station, and it stops
almost in front of the USC.
Every evening, there will be a shuttle-bus service between that day’s last event and the USC. These buses
will depart every day (except on Monday) from 00:00 on. On Monday the shuttle buses will depart from
22:30 on. They will depart at regular intervals. The places from where they depart are indicated on an
event-by-event basis in this booklet. The last bus will leave half an hour after the end of that evening’s event.
Address: Science Park 306.
Education Programme Introduction sessions
During the week several study programmes will offer an education programme introduction session. During this
session you will get more information on how to buy books, your schedule, etc. This introduction is not only
useful, but also mandatory! Every student, whether a participant in the Intreeweek or not, has to be present.
More information about this can be found on student.uva.nl/pple. It might happen that activities of the
education introduction sessions and the Intreeweek overlap. This isn’t a problem: after the education
introduction session you can go rejoin your Intreeweek group and continue with the Intreeweek programme.
Bicycle
During the Introduction Week you will visit various places in Amsterdam. The very best and at the same time
the most practical way to get to all these places is by bike. If you don’t have a bike yet, you can buy one during
Intree Verenigt on Monday for €60. This €60 euro does not include ASVA membership. You can reserve these bikes
at www.asva.nl.
5
Coaches
The group to which you are assigned will be coached by two senior students who are taking the same degree
programme that you are going to start in. These students have been studying in Amsterdam for quite some
time already, so they will be able to answer any questions you may have concerning the city, your studies, and
student life in general.During the Introduction Week, they will be your guide. Therefore, it may be a good idea
to get their phone numbers and store them so that you can always reach them if you need them.
In there be any problems with your coaches and if you cannot count on them, don’t hesitate to call the
Complaints line, at 020 525 3072. Your complaint will be dealt with confidentially. If your coaches’ negligence
is of a very serious nature, or if more complaints are lodged against them, new coaches may be assigned to your
group to replace them.
GeleGraaf
The GeleGraaf is the Introduction Week’s daily newspaper. It is distributed on a daily basis, during lunch, and
it is filled with highlights, possible programme changes, weather forecasts, photos, anecdotes and gossip. It
also contains everything you need to know about activities and prize quizzes.
If you want to send a message for publication in the GeleGraaf, please feel free to do so using the
Intreeweek-app. Your messages are most welcome!
Media & Contact
App (Dutch)
You can also use the INTREE app to keep informed on all activities during the Introduction Week.
Download the app and check out the programme on your phone. Apart from information on all events, you
can also see how to get to the various venues. The app also gives information about the CRAZY88
assignments. If you push the ‘envelop button’, you can send a message to the GeleGraaf.
Intreeweek Love
Have you met a nice girl or boy, but lost them? Send us a message with the Intreeweek app and we will help
you find your future lover. We will post your message in the GeleGraaf or on Facebook.
Facebook
The Introduction Week can also be found on Facebook (/uvaIntreeweek). Through this media channel you
will be kept informed of all Introduction Week activities. Social media are the fastest way to be kept
informed of any programme changes, or to check where the next party will be held. Please like our Facebook
page, to make sure that you don’t miss out on anything!
Emergency?
During every Introduction Week event, a first-aid station will be on the premises, and every Service Point
desk will have a first-aid kit available. If during the week, between 09:30 and 22:00, any serious accident
should happen, please call the central Information Desk at 020–525 3072. If anything of a serious nature
should happen which requires immediate attention and help, you have to call 112, the general number for
emergencies in the Netherlands. In all cases, please also alert one of the members of the Introduction
Committee present on the premises (they can be identified by their yellow shirts).
Any questions? Central Information Desk!
You can turn to the central Information Desk with any questions that you can possibly come up with,.
Whether it is about the programme, or a route description, or your coaches, or something lost (or found!), or
the public transport system – the people at the central Information Desk have the answer to all your questions!
They also have a list of all emergency services and other contacts.
The central Information Desk is located at Nieuwe Achtergracht 170. Daily opening hours are between 09:30
and 22:00. You can also reach the central Information Desk by phone, at 020 – 525 3072.
6
Service points
As it is not always convenient to go to the central Information Desk, a Service Point will be arranged at every
event. Here also, the Introduction Committee will be able to answer all of your questions. The Service Points at
the events can easily be identified and found. Furthermore, you can also address one of the Intreeweek
committee members, identified by their yellow t-shirts. At each service point, you can also collect your points
for CRAZY88.
Food & Drinks
Lunch
Every day during the midday event you can collect a lunchbox. Your wristband contains five boxes, one for
each day. After you have been handed a lunchbox, one box on your wristband will be ticked off. Lunchboxes
are available for every participant. The contents of the lunchboxes will differ from one day to the next, and
the preferences of vegetarians are taken into account. The places where the lunchboxes can be
collected on any particular day are mentioned in this programme booklet. On Friday there will be a special lunch
with champagne during the Champagne lunch at the Festival.
Evening meal
Every night, you and your group will have a nice dinner at either a student association, or a restaurant, or in
one of the UvA student restaurants. Your coaches have been given a coupon sheet on which the venue and
time of each day’s evening meal are indicated. You will only be able to get a meal if you hand in an
evening-meal voucher. Make sure that you are on time, or you might miss dinner! If you should happen to be
late, please call the central Information Desk at 020 – 525 3072. On Friday all Intree-groups will dine at the
Oosterpark to end the week together.
Drinks
At various events during this week, an Intreebar will be set up. There you need to pay for your drinks with
the tokens you can buy from the token counter somewhere on the site. At the token counters you can pay
either in cash or by switch card. You can buy no less than five tokens at the time and one token costs €2. A
glass of beer, wine and soft drinks costs one token. It is not possible to change tokens for money, so keep in
mind that the last opportunity to spend your last tokens is on Friday, during the Festival.
The tokens can be bought and used at the following events: Intree Verenigt, Amsterdam World City, the
Cultfactory, PlankGas! And the Festival. At all other events, therefore, you have to pay in cash!
Alcohol Policy
To comply with Dutch law that states that no alcohol can be served to persons younger than eighteen (18), the
Intree Committee has adopted the following policy:
Besides a general wristband that provides entrance to all events of the Intreeweek, all 18+ participants will get
an additional wristband upon presenting valid identification (passport, ID-card or driving license). With this
wristband they can purchase alcoholic drinks at the bar.
The staff behind the bar will only sell alcoholic drinks to you when you are in possession of this wristband and
when this wristband is on your wrist. A loose or broken wristband will not be accepted. New 18+ wristbands
will be provided by the organisation when you return your broken wristband. Again, valid identification will be
needed to obtain the replacement 18+ wristband.
At the start of each event where alcoholic drinks are served, you may be checked for identification when you are
not in possession of an 18+ wristband. When you are younger than eighteen and you are intoxicated or in
possession of alcoholic consumptions on one of our events, you will be removed by the event organizers and
further access to Intreeweek events will be denied.
The Intree Committee works with different wristband colours to make a distinctions between coaches,
crewmembers, participants and participants with a place to sleep at the USC. The following colour code will be
used:
-
Coaches: pink wristband
7
-
Participants without a spot at the USC: red wristband
Participants with a spot at the USC: green wristband
Crew members: blue wristband
Intree Committee: yellow fabric wristband
Participants who are eighteen or older will wear a second wristband. This wristband is black and has ‘18+’ on it
in white letters.
There is a zero tolerance policy on possession or consumption of alcohol by participants under the age of
eighteen.
Bringing your own drinks or drugs
It is not permitted to bring your own drinks to the events organised by the Introduction Committee. Because
of problems caused at past events, , bringing your own drinks is prohibited. There will be checks to see to it
that this rule is strictly adhered to. If you should try to bring your own drinks despite this rule, your
participant’s wristband will be taken from you and you cannot take part in the Intreeweek anymore. The
consumption or possession of drugs strictly prohibited! If you are seen with drugs your access to any other
Intreeweek events will be denied without restitution of your registration fee.

In case of rain, several activities may be altered. See the back of the booklet for the alternative activities.

On Wednesday there will be lockers available at the Gashouder. These lockers will be available from 19:00
onwards, also during the Cultfactory. Note: you will need to bring cash to pay for the lockers.
CRAZY88 list

seen the previous day. If you pay attention you can score 40 points for each question that you
have answered correctly.
