COLOUR TRENDS 2016
WOOD FUTURES COLOUR TRENDS 2016 NEW! Now with colour shades for doors and windows www.zweihorn.com COLOUR OF THE YEAR 20YY 36/370 F1.34.58 OCHRE GOLD EVEN THE FUTURE HAS A PAST It all began about 15 years ago, when the AkzoNobel Group Global Aesthetic Center invited international design experts and trend watchers to define a palette of colours that would be relevant for the future. As AkzoNobel became aware of the added value they could offer clients by focusing on design trends, the Group invested in developing these activities and published their colour predictions in a book for the benefit of the wider public. Each year, colour trends are traced, analysed and compiled in the colour palette of the year. Both the Zweihorn® and Sikkens Wood Coatings brands benefit from the prediction of future colour trends and combine current research findings with their own analyses at furniture fairs every year to determine the colour and wood trends for the woodwork industry. Discover the colour and wood trends in WoodFutures 2016 with Zweihorn® and Sikkens Wood Coatings. GNIKOOLOOKING HTOBOTH SYAWAYS This motto illustrates the colour and wood trends of 2016. We are at a crossroads in time. We are at a very interesting point where we can see the advantages of both tradition and modern innovation. We need the inspiration of the past to shape the future. Even the main wood designs we have identified for the next 12 months should be considered in relation to each other - in their relationship with their opposite. Opposites produce tension and allow things to appear differently and, often, give them greater value. Technology has become such an important part of our life that we once again enjoy printed books or paper and pen. Wood and glass, wood and metal, wood and stone are very different materials, yet when tastefully combined, they both gain in value. Opposites can be seen in all our trends: HERITAGE &Future Words& PICTURES DARK &Light THE GRID &Letting go You can tear the template off the fold-out page at the back. ! On our quest to to find the wood trends of 2016, we found the combination of wood and gold was popular everywhere in the world of design. Wood and gold have very different characters and yet they complement each other perfectly. We have called the colour that connects the main 2016 trends ‚ochre gold‘: light enough to reflect the lustre of the gold but also delicate enough to recall the natural tones of earth and wood. When we translate the colour palette of the year into wood and wooden composites, light woods, such as oak, ash and spruce, come to the fore. In this way, attractive opposites can produce an exciting tension. The expressive natural appeal of natural woods is combined with soft, coordinated, contemporary, elegant, matt varnish shades to create a very special emotional connection. When we appreciate our own history, we learn to build values and are therefore better placed to shape our future. When we translate these thoughts into wood treatment, we see the red stains that represent our rich heritage, coordinated with lighter shades to suggest wear. We also find techniques to age woods and panelling in artistic ways. These shades of red in a warm orange have a pleasant and beguiling effect. The vivid colours make spaces more expressive. When we combine the shades of red with the brown and pastel shades of the colour palette, we create a pleasant, calming atmosphere. The opposite of antique and original materials, such as natural massive woods (e.g. wild walnut), can be convincingly combined with a coordinated red high gloss varnish for this setting. Unstained woods should be coated with a very matt coating. This trend is also increasing in popularity in the Western world, as we can see by the use of writing in interior decorating, for instance. The colour palette combines deep dark blue and graphite grey wood stains with soft hues, such as eggshell velvet and pastel green. This produces a graphic, high-contrast effect. The deep, dark shades come into their own on deciduous woods and achieve a very natural effect when the wood is stained first and then varnished with a clear deep matt varnish. Untreated wood and bonded panelling complete this colour scheme and give it a natural appearance - with a light Scandinavian touch. For a long time, we focused on light, and now we realise that we also need darkness for a healthy and balanced life. Use contrasts to create a special mood. By using naturally dark woods and stains, we create a unique contrast to the gold of this colour scheme: shades that recall the „golden hours“, the hours after sunrise and before sunset. The dark, masculine shades combine well with light woods such as maple, ash or oak with a rough structure. By choosing light, colourful shades with smoked oak or dark-stained woods, we obtain lovely light-dark contrasts. Using organic shapes in product design shows how creativity can unfold without the restrictions of a fixed grid. However, we need limits in our life, even when we long to rebel against them. Freedom is only understandable within the context of a framework. Round wooden panels create this stable framework whilst leaving space for new interpretations. The colour palette reflects the contrast. The colours are playful, but are kept in check by the black and white of the grid. Allow spaces to speak, and demonstrate the freedom of enhancing the wood effect with modern stain shades. AN_202251_220216 · 80202/03/16/E · Modifications and errors excepted.
