2007 MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE
A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear Member:
My thanks to everyone who helped with getting convertibles for the Independence Day Parade in Pasco. It was very
gratifying to see the needed 26 convertibles show up to carry the politicians and the Miss Tri-Cities contestants. Parades
don‟t end yet, of course. We‟ve been asked to supply 12 or 13 convertibles for the Ben Franklin Fair Parade on August
20th, I believe. I plan to be out of town that weekend, but I‟m hoping we‟ll have enough people in town to supply the necessary convertibles. This parade also lets us enter the rest of our cars, as well as the convertibles. More on this parade
at the July 19th and August 16th meetings.
The rest of the month went pretty well, too. I counted 15 PNWMC vehicles at Cool Desert Nights. Some of them were
invited into the Legacy Ford Display, which is quite an honor. I specifically recall Charlie McNiven‟s 2008 Bullitt, Linda
Culley‟s 1994 Indy Pace Car convertible, and Jack Hurst‟s 1958 Edsel being in that group. With any luck, we‟ll have several Mustangs at Roundup this coming weekend and some at Hot Wheels in Millwood the following weekend. Two
weeks from now, the Mustang shows are in Vancouver and Port Orchard. Nobody can get to all the Mustang shows, but
you‟ll find that each one is fun.
Speaking of upcoming shows, Vice President Claud Johnson and I have scheduled a Fall Show planning meeting on Monday,
July 18th, at Round Table. We have the small part of the room reserved, as usual, starting at 6:00. Claud plans to show
the shirt design (Atomic might have a sample shirt ready by one of the meetings next week), plus discuss initial budget
talks and a planning meeting schedule. Anyone wishing to help plan the show is welcome. These meetings usually start
around 6:30 and end after about an hour.
See you on Tuesday! – maybe Monday, too.
YAKIMA VALLEY SPORTS CAR CLUB SHOW N SHINE 2011

On June 18 YVSCC held their 3rd annual car show for the Children‟s Wishes and Dreams foundation. It was held at the
Ahtanum Youth Park in Union Gap, WA. in conjunction with the “Old Town Days” celebration. Other activities were a
huge play area for children with giant slides, moon walk tent, and various other fun things, a swap meet, 20 plus vendors, and
„American Idol‟ tryouts. The events were covered by local TV and radio stations.
The morning rain gave things a slow start but as the sun came out so did more people and
cars. Eventually they ended up with around 60 cars of which 4 were Mustangs. 1 from Pacific
NW Mustang Club, 2 from Sun Country Mustang Club, and 1 unaffiliated. All 4 Mustangs
took home awards.
This was my first year to participate in this event and I thought it was good show. It is a very
relaxed and laid back event. They don‟t park you so it means you can park with friends or
club members or with like kinds of cars. There was an abundance of things to do and time
went by very quickly. The awards are sponsor, participant, and children‟s choice awards so
there aren‟t individual classes, kind of a free for all. It also meant there were a huge variety
of vehicles present. Participant awards were for 1 st, 2nd, and 3rd place. 1st went to a „32 Ford,
2nd to a ‟47 Chevy, and 3rd to a TR6. The kids picked a „‟70 Chevelle. If you are looking for
a different kind of show to go to this would be a good one.

INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE, 2011
“Plop, plop, fizz, fizz. Oh, what a relief it is.” This old advertising slogan is how I feel after the Independence Day Parade in
Pasco. We needed to get 26 convertibles for politicians and Miss Tri-Cities contestants and you came through. We had
exactly that number of convertibles for the parade even though I can think of a few members and former members who
were unable to attend this year. At least 1 convertible has been sold and is gone, and another is getting some more restoration. Some of you had other important plans and commitments. My heartfelt thanks to all of you who were able to drive a
convertible, loan one out to another club member, or helped recruit more convertibles. You made a big difference for a lot
of people. The parade weather was pleasant, if a bit cooler than usual. The parade started very close to the planned 10:00.
Nobody overheated and we got some good weaving done as some of us tried to get a little closer to each side of the wide
streets. Most importantly, we all had a good, safe drive. Kids did a much better job this year of staying back away from the
moving cars.

MEETING MINUTES - June 21, 2011


President Jim Compton called the PNWMC meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.
Members introduced themselves and their cars. All members did not receive minutes from the May 17, 2011
meeting so the minutes approval was tabled until our next meeting on July 19 th.
OLD BUSINESS
 SPRING SHOW FOLLOW-UP – Chris Wollam thanked all of the members for their hard work at the show.
The show made a profit of about $2000. Elnora Hodges made a motion for the following disbursement of funds:
-$1000 for Dave Lemak Scholarship Fund at CBC -$1000 for our trailer purchase fund. It was also decided to give
$100 for the Car Show Against Hunger to be held in Sept. Mustang towels were presented to Chris Wollam and
Charlie McNiven for their spring show leadership. The thank you trophy was presented to Chris, the manager of
Roundtable Pizza for their continued support of our club and the use of their meeting room. Thank you trophies
were given to members to present to our show sponsors. We received a thank you from Jan of the Troop Care
Package. Our club filled her trunk with troop donations. Thanks for your support.
 HCM – Dr. Daniel Niendorff was introduced and explained the HCM free clinic to be held at Pasco HS on August
10th. Flyers were handed out as well as a sign-up sheet for volunteers who would like to assist at the clinic. HCM
stands for Hypertrophic CardioMyopathy, which is a heart condition that develops in the teenage years.
 RELAY FOR LIFE – We had a great showing with a total of 16 cars attending the relay held at Southridge HS on
June 10th. There were 12 club members and 4 cars from Legacy Ford. The American Cancer Society raised
$125,000. Thanks to all who participated.
 CAR SHOWS – Hillsboro Show was June 4th. 3 club members attended, Jim Compton, Claud Johnson, and
Grant and Linda Culley. Grant won 1st prize. It was a well-run show with 300 cars, excellent weather, and some
unusual/unique cars. There were 20-30 cars in a class. VFW Car Show –was held in Howard Amon Park on June
18th with PNWMC sweeping the show.
 UPCOMING SHOWS – Mustang Roundup will be held in Bellevue July 14-17. The web site for information is
www.mustangsnorthwest.org. International Mustang Show – Sept. 1st – 5th in Spokane @ Northern Quest Casino.
Entry forms are available at the front table and is open to all Ford powered cars. The casino is booked, but they
will run shuttles between hotels and the casino parking lot will be secured.
 JULY 4TH PARADE – will be held on Monday the 4th and Jim Compton is our parade coordinator. A sign up
sheet was passed around. We need 26 convertibles. Meet at 8:00 a.m. at Hwy 395 and Clearwater Ave. We will
leave for Pasco at 8:30.
 COOL DESERT NIGHTS – The club will meet at Town Crier for lunch at 11:30 on Sat. June 25th. The club will
park their cars in the parking lot in front of the Town Crier and will need to be there between 8 and 8:30.
NEW BUSINESS
 CLASSIC CAR APPRECIATION DAY – is Friday, July 8th. Jim Compton requests that the club drive their
classic cars on this day, as it is a nationwide event.
 PNWMC BLUE FLAGS - Larry McDannel asked if our blue PNWMC flags could be displayed at any car shows
or just our PNWMC events. Ans. They can be displayed anywhere.
 FALL SHOW – Claud Johnson stated there would be a brief Fall Show planning meeting following our club meeting to discuss show designs, etc. Claud asked about old pictures, memorabilia to incorporate into the fall show
 TREASURER’S REPORT – Kim Gothel read the Treasurer‟s Report
 50/50 WINNER – Ben Rausch was the winner of $29 this month.

MUSTANG OF THE MONTH - Patty Wilson’s 2007 Mustang Convertible
I bought a Cervini 500 kit for Patty's 07 Mustang convertible. We planned on having Shelby stripes and ghost flames on the
car. We had Dave Stafford do some body work on the car and prep the body kit. He was running short on time and had Arsen do the paint work. Dave and I did the fitting of the body kit and I hooked up the lights.
It has been a very enjoyable project and turned out better than I pictured it. The Shelby stripes are painted on in gold. I figured
gold would look better than white with the tan top. I didn't realize it would look so good with the blue body!!! The ghost
flames are still in the planning. We got it done just in time for the spring show and took 2nd place in our class.

COOL DESERT NIGHTS, 2011
Richland‟s 2011 version of Cool Desert Nights definitely had cooler nights than usual. The cooler weather helped keep the
cars from overheating as much during Friday night‟s cruise, so that‟s not all bad. Show Day had some really pleasant
weather, too.
I believe I counted at least 13 PNWMC cars either at the show or in the Friday cruise. First, I want to congratulate Jack
Hurst with his 1958 Edsel, Grant and Linda Culley with her 1994 Indy Pace Car Cobra, Ervin and Connie Bader with one of
their Thunderbirds, and Charlie and Cathy McNiven and his 2008 Bullitt for being invited into the Legacy Ford display of
cars. The whole display was great and their cars really added to it. Meanwhile, Terri and Pete Nicasio entered their 3 Mustangs, Steve Halterman entered his Cobra II, Nan and Rich Kuchan entered their ‟66 coupe, Vernon Richardson entered his
modified fastback in the cruise, Nolan and Maureen Woodward entered their Mustangs, and Jim Compton entered both of
his ‟69 Cougars.
Lunch was split between groups. Legacy Ford treated our members in its contingent to a nice catered lunch. Several of the
rest of us had lunch at the Towne Crier and were joined by Ben Rasch, Steve Wallner, Roger and Diane Anderson, Cheryl
Ziemer, and probably a few others.
The show staff announced repeatedly that exactly 800 cars had registered for the show. That number is well above the previous record. I managed to count at least 543 cars in the show field during mid-afternoon. I know there were some entries
who did not attend Saturday‟s show and some cars might have left early. Regardless, 543 cars is a huge show. I wonder if all
800 cars could have fit into the parking area reserved for show entries.
I hope more of us can be there next year. It‟s a fun time. It‟s local. You‟ll like it.

Sunbeam Tiger so this engine is not needed. Out of Jasper warranty, but no known problems. Refund if you

new pistons, rings, main bearings, rod bearings, rebuilt heads. Includes: long block (high quality, correct blue
