In several publications we have seen mentioned Premium Quality or EMQ (Electric Motor Quality) bearings. The definitions of the terms are basically subjective in that there are no known industry standards
for the terms and are defined only by the manufacturer of the bearing.
standard to which all of the products of the Schaeffler Group and its FAG, INA and Barden brands are
produced - every day, every time. Schaeffler’s established production quality is so high that it effectively
renders a distinction between “premium” and any
other type of quality obsolete.
The ABMA, whose members are from bearing manufacturers, develop and agree upon the basic dimensions of bearing boundaries but do not suggest or
control such criteria for the internal design of bearings. It remains the discretion of the manufacturers as
to internal design.
NTN:
NTN’s “The TRUTH about Electric Motor Quality”
brochure states: Today we know the elements that result in bearing noise are surface finish, ball grade, ring
roundness, cage design, cage quality and absolute
manufacturing repeatability. There are no established
min/max industry standards that specify “EMQ”. This
determination is subjective and left up to individual
manufacturers. Therefore, it is obvious that there can
actually be a difference in “Electric Motor Quality”
bearings from one manufacturer to another”.

discussion, Electric-Motor Quality) describes the

In several publications we have seen mentioned Premium Quality or EMQ (Electric Motor Quality) bearings. The definitions of the terms are basically subjective in that there are no known industry standards
for the terms and are defined only by the manufacturer of the bearing.
standard to which all of the products of the Schaeffler Group and its FAG, INA and Barden brands are
produced - every day, every time. Schaeffler’s established production quality is so high that it effectively
renders a distinction between “premium” and any
other type of quality obsolete.
The ABMA, whose members are from bearing manufacturers, develop and agree upon the basic dimensions of bearing boundaries but do not suggest or
control such criteria for the internal design of bearings. It remains the discretion of the manufacturers as
to internal design.
NTN:
NTN’s “The TRUTH about Electric Motor Quality”
brochure states: Today we know the elements that result in bearing noise are surface finish, ball grade, ring
roundness, cage design, cage quality and absolute
manufacturing repeatability. There are no established
min/max industry standards that specify “EMQ”. This
determination is subjective and left up to individual
manufacturers. Therefore, it is obvious that there can
actually be a difference in “Electric Motor Quality”
bearings from one manufacturer to another”.
