It works to immediately curb the appearance of fine lines while brightening the eye area over time. A unique serum-to-matte texture hydrates and blurs imperfections, and ingredients – including the brand-exclusive SG-1191 – work to reduce puffiness, dark circles and wrinkles with continued use. HOW IT WORKS White lily and Brazilian ginseng reduce puffiness, dark circles and fine lines, while a patented ingredient packed with antioxidants acts as a hydrator to target aging around the eyes. Other key ingredients include caffeine to stimulate circulation, jojoba esters to moisturize, peptides to support collagen and elastin production, hyaluronic acid to lock in moisture, and green tea to combat against environmental damage. The formula is free of fragrance, parabens, phthalates and sulfates. HOW TO USE IT Apply one pump to cleansed skin day and night. Gently smooth around the eye area for a few seconds. Allow to set for 30 to 40 seconds while remaining expressionless as it dries to a soft finish. THE BOTTOM LINE I’ve been thinking a lot about my appearance lately. I haven’t been admiring or admonishing myself, but attempting to make peace with what I’ve been genetically handed. After all, there’s nothing I can do about my height, my sloped shoulders or the girth of my thighs. (Okay, I can do something about my thighs, but pizza.) The only thing I can attribute this flash of acceptance to is fatigue. I’m tired of scrutinizing my body and constantly criticizing myself. But I’m also just plain tired, and it’s showing in the dark circles under my eyes, which are the hardest to make peace with. This product makes big promises. Instantaneous results? Yeah, right. Except, yeah! There’s a very real brightening that happens as soon as the serum dries. It also does a great job of slightly reducing the puffy bulge that resides under my left eye and swells with every lost minute of sleep. My only word of advice is that if you’re going to apply makeup, dab on some eye cream first to make it easier to spread. But otherwise, reach for this serum and start making peace with yourself while waging war on dark circles. – MARILISA RACCO Special to The Globe and Mail 3 8 4 INSPIRED BY 9 Violet streak The scene at the Cannes film festival is typically a parade of unusual fashion risks: Julianne Moore’s cobra-embellished Givenchy gown at the Café Society premiere is just one example. Another attempt at over the top that paid off was Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s matte lavender lip colour; it was a bold beauty choice that looked fresh and new – a much needed jolt of modernity at an event that has a notorious “no flat shoes” rule on the red carpet. The colour conjured memories of the dearly departed Prince. Thinking of channeling the Purple One with a nod to his favourite hue? Choices abound. Canadian brand Bite Beauty’s lipstick contains 12 skin-nourishing edible oils, while Nyx’s Butter Gloss delivers a soft wash of colour. Achieve a smudge-proof eye line look with Shu Uemura’s eye pencil. If you’ve got no time for a manicure, Nails Inc’s new Paint Can polish lets you spray, set and go. From eye shadows that glimmer to cream colours that add a royal flush to your cheeks, consider this the time to let purple reign in your beauty routine. – ODESSA PALOMA PARKER 1.
