She started her tour of chapters with workshops for the Anchorage Alaska Chapter. Nayuko began her study of Ikenobo ikebana after graduating from Kyoto Saga University of Arts, Kyoto, Japan in 1986. She has completed the Special Advanced Course in Rikka, Central Training Institute, Ikenobo Headquarters, Kyoto, Japan. She currently lives in the Yamaguchi prefecture. For commemorating the 110th anniversary of Japan Town, “Hashi Art” made with chopsticks from various restaurants, shops, companies and schools were exhibited. “The triangle shape made with chopsticks is symbol of you, me and the family. We have to get over the difficult together any time.” The office manager of Ikenobo Ikebana Society of America, Ms. Kurashige explained. ! Consul General of Japan, Mr. Yamada and The 49th Sakura Festival Chairman, Mr. Okamoto made speech and people prayed for the reconstruction of the disaster-stricken areas as quickly as possible. ! The event had Ikenobo Reishiki-ike ceremony, Shakuhachi performance by Elliot Kallen, and Singing of National Anthem and “Hana wa Saku. About 250 people participated for the Floral Tribute. We appreciated for your cooperation from bottom of our hearts. ! ! Seven days of workshops were held at Ikenobo Headquarters and the Ikenobo college. The Study Tour began with an opening ceremony celebrat- ing Headmaster Sen'ei Ikenobo's 70th anniversary of becoming the Headmaster and Headmaster Designate Yuki Ikenobo formally taking the name Senko Ikenobo. The 2015 “Tanabata” Exhibition entitled “The Promise of a New Life” was held from Nov. 13 – 16 at Kyoto Takashimaya Department Store as well as Ikenobo Headquarters exhibition halls and dojo. Hundreds of Ikenobo arrangements of all styles were exhibited. The Tour concluded with a banquet at the Rihga Royal Hotel in Kyoto where members and Special Visiting Professors enjoyed making new memories and renewing old ones. The workshops and exhibitions were fabulous but meeting with Headmaster Sen'ei Ikenobo was our most precious moment of the tour. Some members stayed at Kashinen and passed by Rokkakudo Temple each day on the way to class. And who can forget the amazing flower shop. Left: Freestyle using Oasis. Right: Shoka One small section of the Ikenobo flower shop in the basement of Headquarters Movie about Ikenobo Senko A movie is being produced based on the Ikenobo book “Hana Ikusa”. The story is about the first generation of Ikenobo Senko in Sengoku period, the mid 15th to 16th Century. Shooting started in April of 2016 and the movie will be released in 2017 in Japan. We pray and hope the people will get through this devastation and very difficult time. The 72nd Ise Shrine Flower Prayer was held in Ise Shrine in Mie Prefecture. Flowers were offered by Mr. Nakagawa Gafu, the board director of the general Foundation Ikenobo Kado-kai Takaoka chapter and Mr. Sasaki Kenno, the Chief of the Ikenobo Kado-kai Fukui chapter. This was the first time for the members of Toyama and Fukui prefecture to perform a flower prayer service. ! May 14 marks a month since the earthquakes in Kumamoto. The city has begun working on temporary housing, and lessons have restarted at schools. Slowly recovering is beginning in this disaster-hit region.
