The muvee Guide: Quick Steps to Social Media Engagement Written by Robert Cooper of PlusROI.com The muvee Guide: Quick Steps to Social Media Engagement Unless you’ve been asleep for the past few years you’ve noticed an absolute explosion in online video and Social Media. More and more businesses have been getting excited about it and as someone who has downloaded muvee Reveal for Business to create online videos, it’s clear that you’re excited about it too! However, the untold story is that only a small percentage of the hundreds of thousands of businesses dabbling in social media and online video are enjoying any level of success. Success is the whole reason we’ve written this guide – we want our customers to have the most successful businesses out there! 2 muvee Introduction While the steps to success through Social Media are not always obvious, virtually any business can find a way to rock the web if they understand their own goals and the factors which motivate their audience. For the purpose of this guide, we’ll invent a fictional restaurant called Luigi’s Pizza and follow the steps they’d take to fully leverage Social Media. We’ll imagine that Luigi’s is located in La Jolla, a waterfront community just outside of San Diego. Luigi’s is a funky spot that caters to students at the nearby UCSD campus. Luigi’s has a large seating area and patio as well as a reasonably busy takeout business from their location. Luigi’s goal for Social Media is very clear: become known to every student at UCSD. This will allow them to boost student visits to their location while reducing the costs associated with advertising in traditional media. With this goal clearly stated, it’s a fairly straightforward process to examine the steps they need to accomplish it... 3 muvee Step I – Identify Content for Your Audience Any business can succeed with Social Media engagement if: 1. They sell goods or services that customers are proud to show off ownership of. or 2. They provide a fun or visually rich experience that customers will want to show themselves involved in. In the case of Luigi’s, it’s clearly number 2 that we can work with. After all, we can be confident that College students like sharing pictures and videos of themselves having fun! 4 muvee Step II - Find the absolute most efficient way of creating or acquiring content. Every Wednesday, Luigi’s has a Tiki theme night. Tacky, for sure, but a lot of fun and it’s always packed for at least part of the evening. Luigi’s could leverage the popularity of this fun evening to develop a simple yet effective Facebook initiative as follows: 5 muvee • Have a host or hostess spend 5 or 10 minutes every hour taking fun photos (both candid and posed) on Tiki night. • At the end of the night, transfer the photos/videos to computer and delete any bad shots. • Create one or more muvees with the videos/photos. • Post the results as videos to the company Facebook Page (these steps can actually be done for one or two muvees in about 15 minutes plus the upload time – no kidding!). • Get the word out about the muvees on Twitter as well (if you use it). Part III - Make it easy, fun, and desirable for your customers to share your creations. So far we’ve talked about basic creation and posting of your muvee, but how the heck do you actually turn that into new people being exposed to your business? Let’s have a look at some of the finer points that Luigi’s needs to act on to make this successful: 1. Make a point of personally engaging all the Tiki Night participants and telling them that the muvee will be on Facebook by midnight (assuming you can commit to that – otherwise make it “by tomorrow”). 2. Ask them to “like” your page while they are there – maybe even have the odd “bonus” or coupon exclusively for fans. 3. Have some tiny flyers with the Facebook Page address on it (and maybe on their receipt too) to make it easy to find when they get on their computer at home. 4. Most importantly, have a contest for anyone who is “tagged” in the muvee that’s posted on Facebook (encourage the people there to tag both themselves and their friends). For instance, it can be as simple as doing a drawing from everyone who’s tagged and giving away a free pizza. Make sure everyone you take photos and video of knows about this contest! 6 muvee Tagging Let’s explore why it’s critical that Luigi’s (and the rest of us) get the tagging part of the equation in place: 1. 7 Every time someone gets tagged in a Facebook video (your muvee, in this case), it shows up in the News Feed. muvee 2. A typical person in their 20’s will have 500-1000 friends on Facebook. 3. If 15 people tag themselves or get tagged after Tiki night, that’s potentially 750015000 appearances in News Feeds, which will result in hundreds or thousands of visits to Luigi’s Facebook page per week, where visitors experience in living color the fun and energy of the restaurant. Numbers don’t lie. It works. The big question - does this all work in the real world? Rather than debate the merits, let’s have a look at some real Analytics data from a 3 month period in the summer of 2010 for the website of a company who launched a very similar strategy: As you’ll notice, that’s over 15,000 visits from Facebook to their website in a 3 month period, making up a meaningful percentage of their overall website traffic. Better yet, this is only the subset of the folks who visited their Facebook page and were exposed to their business. For those of you who want to leverage this kind of strategy, but have a different type of business, let’s look at a few more quick examples: • A car dealership might take photos and or video of everyone who buys a car and put a new muvee up on Facebook daily or weekly. • A hair salon might take snaps of their proud customers immediately after their styling (while their new “do” is still looking perfect). Doing this in front of an elegant looking backdrop and creating glamorous looking muvee would definitely get customers sending friends to the page. • A Bed and Breakfast or Fine Dining Restaurant might find a couple of spots to take elegant and flattering shots of their guests and create weekly muvees. • Any type of sports club or gym could leverage a similar strategy by taking shots of their clients in flattering poses. • Jewellery stores might take fun shots of newly engaged couples who are customers. As you can see, there are lots of ideas! 8 muvee Just 3 Simple Steps. In closing, you’ll note that these steps don’t involve a ton of infrastructure, work or organization. To sum up, the key points in making this exercise effective include: Simple Look Great Tag ‘em Keeping things simple and not “overbuilding” your efforts. Making it your mission to make your customers look great so they are selfmotivated to direct people to your Facebook page. Be sure to include a strategy for “tagging” of your customers so you show up in their friends’ News Feeds. Also, there are many more ways you can leverage muvees and Social Media for your business and we look forward to exploring them in future guides and posts on our blog. 9 muvee This Guide Presented by muvee for users of muvee Reveal Business Pack Boost your business & engage with customers!
