If you remember, the idea for a Boundless Playground was the wish of
Kimberly Scanlon from our Neighborhood. Kimberly attended and gave
those present her ideas. It was an all children’s event.
Sofie & Katharina Holubeck gave the Pledge of Allegiance and Elise
Neumann sang the Star Spangled Banner. We were fortunate to have
Mayor John P.”Jack” Seiler, Commissioner Bruce Roberts, City Manager Lee
Feldman, Commissioner Chip LaMarca, Representative George Moraitis,
Heather Brinkworth, Broward School Board and Broward Health Imperial
Point CEO Alice Taylor present. A special treat was Dottie Mancini, former
CEO of BHIP, for whom the park was named, to be with us.

President’s Message
Dear Neighbors,
It is that time again for our big event of the year, Fall Harvest Picnic. This will be on October 18th from 12-3PM. We have
been working hard to bring you some different events this year, so don’t think it is just the same as last year. We do
have the favorites like the petting farm & pony rides for the young ones but lots for all ages even the Guys to see the
Classic Cars. It is also a chance to see our new Boundless Playground if you haven’t already seen it. Please see the fliers
in this issue.
Another addition to the Park is the Little Free Library which promotes literacy and a love of reading.If you haven’t
noticed, it looks like a little house on the East side of the Park It is: Take a Book, Return a Book and Donate a Book. This
is for all ages. I am especially happy that we have been given this new addition to our Park.
Plans are still underway for our Wildlife Habitat in the Entranceway. The plant beds are being worked on and as soon
as they are completed, the Bird Baths will be delivered. We have purchased those from our Neighbors at Paramount
Concrete. After that, the fun begins as we will need to do the planting. Some of you had said you would be happy to
help and I hope that still stands. It could be good exercise and a way to enjoy planting. So give me a call, 954-938-9230 so
I can put you on my list when we are ready. Also girl & boy Scout troops could earn badges. When it is all completed, we
will apply to the National Wildlife Federation for our designation and purchase the proper signs.
Check our updated web site and also our Face book page. There are always interesting places to go and see around
town. Many of those have been included. We hope you like this new addition.

All Rabies Clinics are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and are open to all Broward County pet owners. Cost for a one-year rabies
vaccination and Broward County Rabies Registration Tag is $25 for dogs and cats that are spayed/neutered; and $35
for pets that are not spayed/neutered. Microchips will also be available for $15. Cash is preferred, but checks will be
accepted with proper identification. You must be a Broward County resident to attend. All dogs must be on leashes and
all cats in carriers. Remember, there is now a $600 fine for pets that are not vaccinated against rabies and registered
with the County.

FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH IN BROWARD COUNTY, BOB LaMENDOLA
October raises awareness about the need for breast cancer screening, so it is important for women
to know the various types of screening tests available.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a good time to spend a moment with your health care provider
deciding which type of test is best for you, and then scheduling one. Annual breast cancer screenings
are recommended for all women ages 40 to 74.
The choices? First: Standard mammograms, which are now captured on computer to make them a
better tool than the old version recorded on film. Second: Newer 3-D mammograms, which produce
better images and can catch a few more tumors than standard ones, but are more costly and use
a bit more radiation. Third: MRI screenings, which produce fine images without the pain of breast
compression, but cost five to 10 times more.
Women should pay nothing for screening mammograms (not including breast MRIs) because insurers are required to
cover annual preventive tests free of charge.
Eligible uninsured women can get free screenings, too, from the Florida Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection
Program, which is run locally by the Florida Department of Health in Broward County.
“We encourage women to get mammograms starting at 40, because they are so good at detecting cancer early when it
can be treated effectively,” says Dr. Paula Thaqi, Director of DOH-Broward.
The DOH-Broward program provides free standard screenings for uninsured women ages 50 to 64 who have family
incomes of up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level (no more than $31,460 per year for a family of two).

Which screening test is best for you depends on your individual situation. Factors to consider:
Standard mammogram – Shown to reduce mortality from breast cancer by up to 30 percent in women ages 40 to 74.

3-D mammogram – Called tomosynthesis. Each breast
is compressed while the machine takes 15 X-ray images
at different angles. A computer combines the images
into a 3-D view that can be rotated to better detect
abnormalities.
Studies show 3-D mammograms catch cancers 4 to 5
percent more often than standard tests. Women who
get 3-D tests are 15 percent less likely to need additional
testing for an abnormal result that proves to be a false
alarm. However, it’s not yet clear if 3-D tests are better
at finding tumors or saving lives, the National Cancer
Institute says.

Magnetic resonance imaging – MRIs of the breasts have
been marketed as pain-free, since no compression
is needed. Also, they use no radiation, and studies
show they can detect tumors somewhat earlier than

and they cost $1,000 or more, not covered by insurers
when done for screening.
The American Cancer Society recommends that women
with a greater than 20 to 25 percent lifetime risk for breast
cancer should consider receiving both a mammogram
and breast MRI.
These high-risk women include: 1) known carriers of the
BRCA1 and 2 gene mutations; 2) women with multiple
first-degree relatives with breast and/or ovarian cancer;
or 3) Hodgkin’s lymphoma survivors who received
chest radiation before age 30. MRI screening is not
recommended for other women.

“In South Florida, hospitals have switched away from
the old film mammograms to newer digital ones stored
on computer,” says Trivel McKire, Manager of the Early
Detection Program at DOH-Broward. “Doctors can
use the computer to analyze the images for better
detection.” Studies show that digital mammograms miss
fewer tumors than those on film.

South Florida Officials Welcome
National Climate Assessment
County and city officials from southeast Florida welcomed the release of the Third National Climate Assessment
(“NCA”) by the federal government earlier this month, noting the report’s comprehensive assessment of the
southeast United States and its strong emphasis on findings and predicted trends related to sea level rise, flooding,
and saltwater contamination of drinking water wells, impacts already being felt in southeast Florida.
Representatives of the four-county Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact (“Compact”) underscored
the value of the National Climate Assessment to the region’s existing efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and
adapt to climate impacts.
Fort Lauderdale Mayor John P. “Jack” Seiler is optimistic that the comprehensive report will elevate the dialogue on
climate change. “I am confident that the extensive research and key findings in the assessment will raise awareness
about the need to proactively protect our communities against the growing impact of climate change,” Seiler said.
“Working together with our partners in the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact, we can plan today to
meet the changing climate conditions of tomorrow and strengthen our community resilience to preserve the longterm livability, sustainability, and prosperity of our City.”
“The National Climate Assessment confirms the trends we’ve already been seeing and adapting to,” said Broward
County Commissioner Kristin Jacobs, who has long championed climate issues and currently serves on President
Obama’s State, Local, and Tribal Leaders Task Force on Climate Preparedness and Resilience, which is developing
recommendations for how the federal government can better aid the climate resilience efforts of local, state,
and tribal governments. “Sea level rise, extreme heat, more intense storms, increased flooding, and saltwater
contamination are not future problems in southeast Florida-they’re here and they’re affecting us now,” Jacobs said.
“The NCA details the economic and public health risks of taking no action and illustrates the importance of investing
in resilient infrastructure,” said Dr. Jennifer Jurado, Director of the Broward County Natural Resources Planning and
Management Division and member of the Compact Staff Steering Committee. She emphasized that the findings of the
report underscore the importance of collective action to prevent the most severe possible impacts through sharp
reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, which the
NCA confirms as the leading cause of global climate
change.

Creamy Blueberry Chicken Salad
1/2 Cup thinly sliced red onion (or chopped)
1/3 Cup diced celery
1/4 Cup torn fresh basil
12 Ozs (3 Cups) shredded/chopped chicken
1/2 tsp salt or to taste
1/2 Cup plain Greek yogurt
21/2 tbs. fresh lemon juice
1 tbs honey
2 Cups fresh blueberries
1 pkg Arugula
2 tps olive oil
1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
Combine first 4 ingredients & sprinkle with salt
Combine yogurt, lemon juice & honey & mix with
other ingredients, gently stir in blueberries.
Place arugula in bowl & carefully add the mixture
& toss gently. Comes out great & was good the
next day also.

TRAFFIC UPDATE CYPRESS CREEK ROAD
The traffic signals on Cypress Creek Road / NE 62nd Street
are part of the synchronized traffic network across the
county. Historically, the coordinated system on this roadway has been divided into two control sections due to
the different roadway characteristics and traffic patterns.
The two sections are 1) the east segment from Dixie Highway to Federal Highway and 2) the west segment from
Hawkins Road to Dixie Highway. The synchronization of
the traffic signals on both sections was evaluated and
optimized within the past two years as part of Broward
County’s Green Lights Program. However, optimal traffic
progression is still constrained by several operational issues along the corridor.
The majority of the traffic signals along the corridor are
still being controlled by the County’s older “legacy” computerized traffic control system. This older system dates
back to the 80’s and provides limited flexibility with respect to maintenance of the coordinated traffic signal
system. County staff is currently in the process of transitioning from the older system to ATMS.now, a computerized system that will enhance timing engineers’ ability
to develop and implement timing plan adjustments. This
will allow the system to better accommodate traffic fluctuations such as school zone interruption, railroad preemption activities and other incidents to improve the
overall traffic progression along Cypress Creek Road / NE
62nd Street. We anticipate completing the conversion to
the new system along the entire corridor by the end of
this year.

Thank you! To all of the citizens of District 3 for electing me as your School Board
member on August 26th. This was my first campaign for office and it is truly an honor to be chosen. I promise I will diligently work for the betterment of educational
resources for the students and residents of District 3, and all of Broward County.
As a step in that direction, I was pleased to attend Mayor Shari McCartney’s Education Summit on September 3rd, 2014, and applaud her for arranging this venue in
response to concerns of both the citizens and commissioners of the City of Oakland
Park. School Board staff attended to address concerns raised during the Summit.

Runcie, Board Member Robin Bartleman and myself, audience members brought a wide-range of questions regarding
issues such as teacher workload and class stacking; availability of BRACE advisors for our college-bound students; facility repairs for Northeast High School and the “Needs Assessment” survey conducted by the District. If you were unable
to attend, here are the remaining meeting dates. All meetings are conducted in the evening with Speaker Registration
from 6:00-6:30pm.

WHAT TO DO??? FLU, COLDS, AND RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS
The kids are back to school and that usually means an increased exposure to germs, bacteria, and viruses. The increased
exposure to our children combined with a compromised immune system (because of increased activity) leads to sickness.
The most common sickness this time of the year is the flu, colds, and respiratory infections. Don’t be a victim!!! You
have power to fight and prevent these germs, bacteria, and viruses from taking over your family. Here is how…
Should I vaccinate or not?
There are many different schools of thought with this topic. You really need to evaluate your own specific situation
when deciding what is the best choice for you and your family. Are you in one of the high risk groups? Is your immune
system compromised from another health issue? Is it worth it to you to expose yourself or your family to the chemicals
within the vaccine?
Education (like anything else) is key…
With minimal internet research you can find the benefits and risks associated with the flu shot. Getting the flu will result
in lost days of work, school absences, discomfort, pain, possible complications, and unwanted visits to the doctor’s
office. This is usually enough of a deterrent to encourage families to go and receive the flu shot in hopes that they
may be able to avoid any and all uncomfortable situations through the flu season. However, simply getting the flu shot
doesn’t protect you completely. Many people who get the shot get sick and even the flu.
What are my alternatives to getting the vaccine?
Prevention and maintenance is the key to preventing dysfunction and disease. Eat a wide variety of fresh fruits and
veggies. These are a great source of vitamins and minerals needed for a healthy immune system. Especially increase
your daily sources of vitamin C. Eat more garlic. Garlic is known for its antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties.
Mushrooms increase your production of white blood cells to help fight infection. Exercise moderately 30-60 minutes
each day. More active people have stronger immune systems. Get plenty of rest and decrease stress to the best of
your ability to reduce fatigue. And, of course, wash your hands regularly and avoid putting your hands to your nose
and mouth. Educate your children on prevention. Since your children are the ones at a higher exposure during this
time of the year, they need to be personally responsible and empowered to help themselves when you are not around.

The bond we have with our pets begins the moment they
come into our lives and never stops growing. However,
there are ways to reinforce this bond throughout our
pet’s life. It is as simple as routine grooming, playtime and
exercise, and regular visits to your veterinarian to help
keep your pet in tip top shape.

CITYWIDE SIDEWALK ASSESSMENT
PROGRAM UPDATE
This is an update on the article from the last August/September
2014 publication, page 30, regarding the Citywide Sidewalk
Assessment Program that was previously scheduled on the
City’s Commission Agenda last August 19, 2014. The Agenda
Item was postponed and has been rescheduled for October 21,
2014, for the City’s Consultant to report their findings to the
Commission on the 106 miles of damaged sidewalks out of the
total 400 miles of City sidewalks.

Interior Designer Creates Decor that is Safe from Pets
Barbara Van Voast of Imperial Point is an interior designer and a pet owner. Until last year, those two passions didn’t
coincide.
That was until a lot of her clients began asking her questions about how to keep their four-legged friends from ruining
their expensive décor. Their queries prompted Van Voast to start researching the topic, finding out about stain- and
odor-resistant fabrics and furnishings.
“”They don’t teach you these things when you go to design school,” she said.
Given the high demand from her customers, Van Voast decided to devote a division of her business to making homes
pet friendly. This area now makes up about 90 percent of her business, she said.
“This was something a lot of my clients were really concerned about, so I decided to address it,” she said.
One client asked Van Voast to redesign her living room with her pet Beagle in mind. She chose a number of pet-friendly
features, such as a high-tech sofa with fabric made to resist stains, moisture and odor.
But dogs and cats aren’t her only clientele. Van Voast has designed homes for clients with pets ranging from llamas to
goats to chinchillas.
“A lot of what I do is preventing and covering up stain and odor,” Van Voast said. “A lot of things don’t change that much
from dog to cat to any pet that has fur.”
Van Voast also tries to be cognizant of household items that could prove dangerous to pets, such as electrical cords,
cords of blinds and pullout sofas.
Family-Oriented Care
“There are a lot of things people hadn’t considered that could really hurt their pets,” she said.
Van Voast, who has a golden doodle dog and a Maine coon cat, said she tries out her ideas
in her own home. “It’s my own residential laboratory,” she said.

More and more interior designers around the country are starting to take
their clients’ pets into account, said Nan Ravel, an interior designer who lives
in Chicago, Ill.
“I see more and more people who are not only interested in their home,
but interested in their pets, and finding a happy medium between the two,”
Ruvel said. “I think if you’re not thoughtful and respectful of a client who has
pets, it’s not going to be a good fit.”

These compelling figures confirm how closely tied the marine industry is to our economy and how important its health is
to our future. To that end, we are excited that results from a new marine industry study are on the horizon. In fact, on the
opening day of the Boat Show, the Marine Industries Association of South Florida (MIASF) plans to announce findings from an
updated study that measures the most recent economic impact of the marine industry in Broward County and South Florida.

As we celebrate the 55th year of this international event, we recognize that a thriving marine industry is vital to the longterm growth, development, and economic sustainability of Fort Lauderdale, Broward County, and the State of Florida.
Today, marine commerce continues to be a leading economic engine which accounts for over 134,000 jobs, along with wages
and earnings of $3.7 billion in Broward County. The impact of the marine industry on Fort Lauderdale’s Intracoastal Waterway
is equally impressive. More than $4.4 billion in marine business volume is generated along the Intracoastal. In addition, the
Waterway accounts for $975 million in personal income, more than 21,000 marine-related jobs, and generates $178 million in
tax revenue.

Aquazone will feature live paddleboard, kayak, hovercraft and free-dive demonstrations all performed in a 25-foot by 50-foot

HURRICANE SEASON: Although we are already three months into our hurricane season,
it is still a good time to remind everyone to be prepared. Our peak season for these
storms is September and October. We have not been impacted by a hurricane since
Wilma on October 24, 2005, when many of us went without electricity for weeks and
without water for days. Part of this preparation should include creating a disaster plan
and assembling a disaster supply kit. The kit should include at least three days’ worth
of water (one gallon, per person, per day) and non-perishable food for each person
in your family. Other essential supplies you should have readily available include: a
can opener, flashlights, a battery-operated radio, batteries, cash, pet supplies, medications, extra eyeglasses, contact lenses and supplies for people with special needs.
For a complete list of emergency supplies and other preparedness tips, visit the City
hurricane website at http://www.fortlauderdale.gov/hurricane. If you are interested in
helping your fellow residents after a hurricane, I encourage you to join the Community
Emergency Response Team. CERT is a highly trained, volunteer group that assists the
City after local emergencies. Through Fort Lauderdale Fire-Rescue, you can receive
free training that covers disaster terminology, standard triage, basic first aid, fire suppression, light search and rescue techniques and disaster awareness. After graduation
you will be prepared to care for your family and your community, and you will be part of a team that may be called
upon to assist the City during an emergency. Free beginner and continuing education classes are available. For more

UPTOWN TROLLEY SERVICE: The City and its partnerships with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), the
South Florida Regional Transportation Agency (SFRTA), the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), and the Envision
Uptown Business Association has launched a new FREE midday shuttle bus service for the Uptown Business District
around Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport. This service provides transportation along the Cypress Creek corridor Monday to Friday from 10am to 3pm. Two routes originating from Cypress Creek Tri-Rail station serves the Uptown area
from Calvary Chapel (west boundary) to Radice Corporate Park (east boundary). The Uptown Link provides commuters,
students, employees, and visitors with convenient access to the Cypress Creek Tri-Rail station, as well as surrounding
restaurants, shops, educational campuses, the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, and other destinations during the
busy midday hours.

FORT LAUDERDALE’S BUSIEST FIREHOUSE: Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue has the new title of ‘Busiest Firehouse in the entire United States and Canada.” Firehouse 2 responded to 25,018 calls in 2013. Fort Lauderdale Engine 8 was ranked as the
busiest engine in Florida and the 10th busiest in the Country. Battalion Chief 2 was the second busiest in the state. The
Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Department responds to fire and medical emergencies and is also responsible for emergency services for the City of Wilton Manors and Lazy Lake. Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue is dedicated to the City’s mission
statement of ‘We build community.” When firefighter paramedics are not responding to calls or training, they can be
found at local schools or community events teaching fire safety, how to make your home safe for your children, or collecting toys, food or school supplies for children. Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue just celebrated its 100 year anniversary in
2012. Firehouse magazine conducts the survey every year comparing fire department call volume and truck responses.
POLICE ACTIVITY: There have been many calls for service around the City regarding car break-ins and residential burglaries. Officers are always present at our pre-agenda meetings to update us on these incidents in our District, and share
action plans. ALWAYS lock your car door and NEVER leave anything on your car seat that would entice someone to break
in. Also, if someone that you do not recognize is knocking at your door, do not open the door, but do let them know
that you are home and that you have called the police. Not answering the door may give the impression that nobody
is home. As a reminder, our Crime Prevention Unit (954-828-6421) offers a free and confidential security assessment for
your home or business.

CITY SWALE REQUIREMENT WHEN
CONSTRUCTING NEW DRIVEWAYS
The City of Fort Lauderdale may require a homeowner to reconstruct their existing swale (grass area between the edge
of road pavement and sidewalk or homeowner’s property line) at the time when the homeowner constructs a new
driveway apron (driveway portion located within the City right-of-way). The swale reconstruction is only required if the
existing swale does not meet current City design standards to assure the swale invert is less in elevation than the edge
of road; sidewalk (if one exists) and the new driveway apron. The
proper swale invert elevation allows storm water caused by heavy
rain storms to sheet flow off the paved road surfaces into the lower swale area where the storm water collects and percolates into
the ground. This swale requirement reduces street flooding making driving safer during heavy rain downpours and the absorption
of water into the ground helps to recharge the Biscayne Aquifer
where water is obtained from wells and treated by the City for our
domestic water supply. More information on the swale reconstruction is available at the City Engineering Department and/or the
Building Department, where the contractor is required to apply for
a City Permit for the driveway construction within the City right-ofway. The permit application and instructions to same along with the
swale acknowledgement form and engineering design standards
are also available on the City’s Website: www.fortlauderdale.gov.

The Fort Lauderdale Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ No. 241) is hosting a FTZ Workshop on Thursday, October 16th, 2014 from
8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. with a complimentary breakfast. The workshop is to inform import-export businesses of the
opportunities and benefits of operating in a foreign-trade zone. Experts in the field of international trade logistics
are partnering with Fort Lauderdale FTZ No. 241 for this workshop to provide insight into the application process and
operating with U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The event will be held at the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport,
Administration Building at 6000 N.W. 21st Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33309.
Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – Broward Health Imperial Point Chief Executive Officer Alice Taylor has been nominated
Businesswoman of the Year by the Greater Pompano Beach Chamber of Commerce for her healthcare leadership and
involvement in the community.
Taylor, who has been the hospital’s top administrator since January 2012, is responsible for the 204-bed acute care
hospital that offers medical-surgical inpatient care, behavioral health services and a wide variety of outpatient services.

Public Hearings Planned for County’s Fiscal Year 2015 Budget
Members of the public wishing to comment on the proposed Broward County fiscal
year 2015 budget will have an opportunity to do so on Tuesday, September 23rd,
starting at 5:01PM, at the Broward Governmental Center, 115 S. Andrews Ave, Room
422 in Fort Lauderdale. The FY 2015 recommended total budget, which includes tax
supported and non-tax supported funds, is $4.1 billion. Overall, the total budget
increases by $28.5 million due to an increase in the operating and debt service
components and a decrease in the capital budget. The $28.5 million represents
an increase of less than one percent in the total $4.1 billion budget. Under the
current proposed budget the total property tax rate will remain the same as this
year. Most taxpayers will see a small increase in their county taxes, which comprise
approximately 23 percent of their overall property tax bill. A homestead property
owner, with the average taxable value, whose value goes up 1.5% can expect to pay
approximately $17 more in county property taxes in FY 15.

Now is not the time to increase taxes or fees on taxpayers. I will work hard to
encourage the other commissioners to roll back the tax rate so that Broward
residents see a savings instead.
Public Hearing to be Held September 23rd on Proposed Bus Service Adjustments and Increases to Bus Fares and Passes
The Broward County Commission will hold a public meeting at 2PM on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at the Governmental
Center, Room 422, 115 South Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, to receive public comments on Broward County Transit (BCT)
proposed bus service adjustments and bus fares and pass increases. If approved, the proposed increase to bus fares and
passes would become effective over two, fiscal year periods: October 1, 2014 and October 1, 2015. The proposed bus service
adjustments will become effective October 13, 2014 for the 595 Express Bus Service, and in January 2015 for the US 1 Breeze.

Frankel Accepting Applications for Military Service Academy
Application Deadline: 5:00pm on October 31, 2014
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Lois Frankel is accepting applications from high school students in Florida’s 22nd District
for nominations to the United States armed services academies for an appointment to the Class of 2019.
“Our military academies provide a world-class education while preparing young men and women for a life of service to our
country,” said Frankel.
Interested students should contact Frankel’s district office to obtain an application packet – which details the specific
instructions on the required documents, including an essay, high school transcript, ACT/SAT scores, and letters of
recommendation.
Applicants will be judged on the basis of character, motivation, academic achievement, physical aptitude, and leadership
skills. Completed applications must be submitted to Frankel’s district office by 5:00 pm on October 31, 2014.
The service academies accepting nominations through congressional offices are the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval
Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

find on updates on these beautiful children.Deirdre was kind enough to respond with
a wonderful story about her boys and is the winner of an Imperial Point T-Shirt.
My name is Deirdre Scott and we live in Imperial Point. My son James is on the back
cover of your latest issue. He is the little red head sitting on a horse.
James is 10 years old now and attends Saint Marks Episcopal School and is in 5th
grade. He is the quarterback for his flag football team at Holiday Park.
James also plays baseball and golf. He will be on the Saint Marks golf team in the
spring.
James has a brother who is 9 years old, Liam, that has Autism. James is so amazing! He
watches over Liam and volunteers at all of Liam’s special needs sports.
Liam has been to see many therapists in the past years but the number one therapist
that stands out the most for Liam is his brother James. We are very proud and love

Do Not Pay Companies for a Copy of Your Original Deed!
Dear Lori:
I received a letter today from a company in Davie, Florida stating my property deed is the only
document identifying me as the property owner. They are requesting a $56.50 processing
fee to obtain a certified copy of my deed for me. In your opinion, should I get one, and is this
fee fair? What would it cost me to get it directly from Broward County?

I actually received the same letter at my home. This mailing is a solicitation from a private
company selling copies of certified deeds at a rate much higher than one needs to pay. While
this practice is misleading, it is in fact, legal. You can actually obtain a certified copy of your
deed from Broward County for just a few dollars.

A certified copy of a document has the legal validity of the original document. Your deed is a document or written legal
instrument which, when executed and delivered, conveys an interest in or legal title to a property. If you have lost or
misplaced your original deed you can obtain a certified copy from the Broward County Records, Taxes and Treasury Division,
in person, or by mail. Deeds recorded prior to 1978 must be ordered in person or by written request. The county charges
a nominal fee for reproduction ($1.00 a page/$2.00 certified). If you have questions for the County Records Division, they
can be reached at 954.831.4000. (Note: the County Records Division is NOT affiliated with the Property Appraiser’s Office.)

After hitting the SEARCH button, you must select your property from a list. To select your property, choose the “Parcel
Number” that is in the same row as your address. All the information on your property will be displayed. More than half
way down this page, there will be a section labeled “Sales History.” Select the top “Book Number or CIN” (colored blue) to
view the most current version of the deed.
