Rally School has come and gone, we have some new people involved in the club and trying out Rallying. I would like to thank all
that came out and tried the club. If I counted right there were 14
new folks and most of them made to the graduation rallye. Thanks
to:
Jim & Dan Van Dam for setting up and instructing, staples
and all.
Jack and Ellen for setting up and running the school practice rallye.
All the club members that showed up to help.
Mike and Julie Lemna and your crew for a super March rallye.
Sunday’s Graduation Rallye was great a nice fairly easy, simple, straight forward
rallye. The participating novices did outstanding, Horton’s wining overall, unheard of
for novices on their first SWISCC rallye.
We are in need of a few people for rallye masters, some new people have shown interest in helping layout a rallye so maybe a experienced rallyist would help teach and
learn with the new interested party.
Here we are ready for a new month, things have been moving along at a fast pace.
Rose and I have been all over the place and it seems as if March was on the move,
We spent the end of Feb and the beginning of March with Dick and Marie Rockrohr.
We traveled all over Canada and Alaska doing a TSD rally and seeing the sights.
Rose and I just had a last minute trip to Seattle Thursday, so I feel as if we have driven the world. We see people all over that enjoy cars in many different ways and
forms. This hobby has a massive following and a lot of money. The reason we went
to Seattle involved a car and we met Tom Armstrong who raced vintage cars, a 1963
Corvette Z06, a 1966 Ford GT40, and a Lola.
Well I have rambled enough to fill the desired space, so I am off and back at my job.

Lost your car numbers, need replacement numbers, want extras?
We have some available $1 each see Dick Rochrohr he’ll be happy
to set you right up with new ones.
Altigs are June Rallye Masters and are looking for some help. Jump right in, especially some of you who haven’t help or rallye mastered before. This is a great opportunity to learn. Helping to write a rallye will make you a better rallyeist.
Membership dues are past due. Those of you that haven’t paid run the risk of
loosing your car numbers as they became available the 21st of March. This will also
be your last newsletter.
Thanks again to Mike and Julie and their rally crew for a great Graduation Rallye.
Wow! Those Novices caught on quick winning the March Rally. 2 Novices finished the top 5 and no novice a the back of the herd. Hope you had fun and hope to see you back in April
We’ve been moving the meeting location around a bit looking at different venues. If you have any
thoughts please let us know. Banbury’s been pretty good to us but after 5+ years a change may be in
order.
The Important Stuff
The April meeting is at Banbury Golf Club
The April Rallye will be on the 17th. A flyer will follow. It will be a simple straight forward rallye (we’re obligated to say that). Registration will start at 9am driver’s meeting at 9:30am with the first car out at 10 or
10:01am. Location and end TBA.

Southwest Idaho Sports Car Club
General Meeting - March 4, 2016
Start: 7:30 pm Attendance number: 23
Welcome: guests Wilkie & Marci Meyer
Officer Reports:
Secretary: Lynn was Absent Minutes from February were approved.
Treasurer (Dick still not here)
Vice President: April noted that no changes to the Rallye Code had be submitted so the 2016 code will look like the 2015
code.
Activities/Newsletter: Dave - Newsletter articles due March 25.
Need Rallye Masters: for April, May, June, July, August. No rallyemaster means no events.
Old Business:
Thank you Brent and Tom for the fun event last month.
Sun Valley will be the 7th - 9th of October. Thank you Christine for getting the information for us.
New Business:
Gary introduced Wilkie & Marci Meyer. Both were past SWISCC members’ way back in the beginning. Wilkie had contacted the board to ask permission to use the SWISCC Logo for the 50th Anniversary of the Freeze Out Hill Climb.
When SWISCC was originally formed in Emmett in 1958 the club ran TSD Rallies, Hill Climbs and Auto Crosses.
For various reason the club split into 3 groups: The Rallye group kept the SWISCC name the hill climb became the
Bogus Basin Hill Climb Assoc and the auto crossers became Snake River SCCA. The Bogus Basin Hill Climb Assoc
would like to use the SWISCC logo on trophies etc as a link to the past. When board didn’t have an issue with this.
The membership approved the use of the logo for the 50th anniversary of the Freeze out hill climb. The club was also invited to participate the car show on the 25th of June from 6-9 and the Hill Climb on the 25 – 26 of June. All the
events will be in Emmett.
We have been contacted by SWEP to put on an event in July. The board will discuss this and bring it back to the club.
Don’t forget rallye school the 19th and the Graduation Rallye on the 20th. Jim has J.Thadeous Toad, Emeritus ready to
go. Mike and Julie have put a lot of time and effort to put on what will be a fun and memorable Graduation rally.
The April General Meeting will be held at Banbury Golf Club in Eagle
4.

This Month’s Trivia:Mercedes-Benz
Mercedes-Benz traces its origins to Karl Benz's creation of the first petrol-powered
car, the Benz Patent Motorwagen, financed by Bertha Benz and patented in January 1886, and Gottlieb Daimler and engineer Wilhelm Maybach's conversion of a
stagecoach by the addition of a petrol engine later that year. The Mercedes automobile was first marketed in 1901. The first Mercedes-Benz brand name vehicles
were produced in 1926, following the merger of Karl Benz's and Gottlieb Daimler's
companies into the Daimler-Benz company. Mercedes-Benz has introduced many
technological and safety innovations that later became common in other vehicles.
Mercedes-Benz is one of the best-known and established automotive brands in the
world, and is also one of the world's oldest automotive brand still in existence today
in 2016, having produced the first petrol-powered car.[
Benz Patent Motorwagen
The famous three-pointed star. While working Daimler sent his wife Emma Kunz a
postcard, marking his residence with a three-pointed star and writing: "one day this
star will shine over our triumphant factories". Since then, this line has inspired both
Daimler and Maybach when developing light and powerful engines for "land, water,
and air". The three-pointed star debuted in 1910. In 1916, it was surrounded by a
circle with four additional stars, with either the name Mercedes or of the respective
factory. In 1937, the familiar three-dimensional three-pointed star, contained in a
circle. was registered by Daimler-Benz.
A single Benz competed in the world's first motor race, the 1894 Paris–Rouen,
where Émile Roger finished 14th in 10 hours 1 minute. Throughout its long history,
the company has been involved in a range of motorsport activities, including sports
car racing and rallying. Stirling Moss and co-driver Denis Jenkinson made history
by winning the 1955 Mille Miglia road race in Italy during a record-breaking drive
with an average speed of almost 98 mph in a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR.[

Cylinders: 4
Displacement: 6558 cc/400 cI

Mercedes-Benz is currently active in three forms of motorsport, Formula Three,
DTM and Formula One.
