Greetings Everyone,
Warm weather is now upon us as we enter into the summer months. Everyone is busy
vacationing, spending time with their families, and once in a while spending time with their
vintage/classic Jaguar. For many of us, this part of the year routinely passes us by at warp speed
and we wish summer would be at least twice as long as it actually is. So we have to get the most
of it while it is here. Of course, one of the best ways to do that is by involvement in our club
activities. So please remember that your participation is what makes this club great!
Additionally, for those that desire higher levels of club involvement there are other
opportunities available; just contact any of your board members.
Most club members already realize that our club is an affiliate of Jaguar Clubs of North America (JCNA). JCNA has a wonderful website
that is a tremendous resource and reference. One of my favorite areas is the JCNA Shoppe where one can purchase manuals, catalogs,
handbooks, publications, books, shirts, caps, and other Jaguar merchandise. Just about everything club related can be found including
concours standings and photos of members cars from across the country. If you are a newer member I would encourage you to explore
this site (http://www.jcna.com).
For those that are not mechanically or electrically inclined, there is a new Tech Line for JCNA technical help that actually started January
30th of 2011. This is an awesome value just by itself if you’ve ever struggled with a unique mechanical or electrical systems failure.
This could be of assistance to those members trying to get their cars ready for the show season. The following is a brief note from the
site.
JCNA is expanding services for its members and this latest addition has been needed for a long time. JCNA realizes that members can
do many of the small and sometimes large things needed to keep their cat purring. We can HELP! Instead of endless comments on
forums with unknown respondents this service will be direct and personal. Please read the following carefully and enjoy. The JCNA
hotline will be manned during normal hours EST and may be reached by calling the JCNA toll free number 888-258-2524. You will be
given a menu choice but you may press #3. The call will be transferred and if not helping another member you will be connected. If not
answered please leave a message with as much detail as is necessary to contact you and possibly answer your question. HAVE YOUR
JCNA MEMBERSHIP NUMBER handy when you call. If your question is lengthy or illustrations or pictures are involved you may simply
wish to e mail your question to [email protected]. If you are not a JCNA member you might be helped, but JCNA members will
receive priority. If you are not a member you WILL be encouraged to join, and if you are helped and save $$$ it will be well worth the
modest membership fee.

exit your vehicle to register. Pre-registrations post marked on or before June 9th are $10.00 for
each car or motorcycle. If you have more than two cars/cycles, use a copy of the form.
Registrations post marked after June 9th or on the day of the event increase to $15.00 per
vehicle. Award winners will be determined by a popular vote by registered event participants on
ballots provided by BCFD. "People's Choice" Award is selected from the balloting of public
viewers. Awards for each class, diamond in the rough, people’s choice and best of show.

The Milwaukee Masterpiece is a full weekend of automotive events with rare cars and
unique people from around the world. This year Mercedes Benz and Fiat are featured.
► TAKE PART IN THIS NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED EVENT THAT HIGHLIGHTS THE IMPRESSIVE HISTORY OF THE AUTOMOBILE.
The 2012 Masterpiece will also honor the Centennial of the1912 Vanderbilt Cup and the American Grand
Prize. These historic races took place in Milwaukee only once, but left a lasting impression. See some of
Milwaukee’s earliest race history on our show field. Wisconsin clubs specializing in Italian, American,
English, French and German vehicles as well as Hot Rods and Motorcycles will display their finest on Club
Day.

►Friday afternoon - PLAN TO ARRIVE EARLY AND JOIN YOUR FELLOW ENTHUSIASTS IN THE JAGUAR HOSPITALITY
SUITE. WJL concours participants can pick up their registration packets. At 6:00 PM all participants
are invited to the Milwaukee Masterpiece Welcome Reception. Following the reception, WJL
members and out of town guests, who have made a reservation, will enjoy a traditional Wisconsin
fish fry, prepared special for our group by the chef at the Pfister.
►Saturday is Club Day.- THE WJL CONCOURS WILL BE HELD DURING CLUB DAY AT VETERANS PARK. -
Milwaukee County requires that all Club Day cars be on the field by 9:30 AM. The show opens to
the public at 10 AM, with spectators paying a small donation to JFS, the charitable organization
that benefits from the weekend activities. The show ends at 3:00 PM with no early exit. After a
long, hot day on the lakefront, we’ll return to the hotel for a post show awards dinner (cash bar) in
the Café Pfister.
►Sunday - ROUND OUT YOUR WEEKEND BY ATTENDING THE THE MILWAUKEE MASTERPIECE CONCOURS D’
ELEGANCE. Veterans Park will be home to one hundred fifty unique motorcars selected from all
over the world to celebrate automotive art and history. This year’s Jaguar class, in keeping with
celebrating the early years of the Milwaukee car events, will be celebrating the early years of
Jaguar from Swallow Sidecars to SS Jaguar. (Continued on page 5)

Here is the latest in our series of articles about local
advertisers who provide services that club members
may find useful. Wisconsin Jaguars Limited is not

want you to know more about the services available
to you.
Coventry Classics
Just across the Wisconsin state line from Genoa
City, WI there is a car restoration business in an
industrial park, behind an Illinois truck weigh-station,
Coventry Classics in Richmond, IL. Here is how we
came to visit Dan’s facility. Earlier this spring Dick
and I visited Wally Ruppert to check out his E-Type.
Wally mentioned that Coventry Classics had serviced
his Jaguar while Wally was restoring it. Since Wally’s
home was fairly close to this shop, we called and
made an appointment to stop by immediately to see
Dan’s place.
The owner, WJL member Dan Bent, opened this
facility a year ago due to the increasing demand for
his services with Jaguars and the need for more
space. What a surprise this turned out to be. As we
drove in to his place, the parking lot was covered
with more E-types than you’d normally see at one
time, other than at a concours show. We knew we’d
found the right spot. How did this come to be?
In 1981 Dan’s father bought a turquoise 1972 Etype which began Dan’s passion for Jaguars. This
car became his early automotive training ground at
the age of 13 and the beginning of a keen interest in
vintage British vehicles. He still has this car and has
done some exotic modifications to it. The six Weber
carbs are one of the clues.

Dan also achieved better mileage than stock.

Dan has developed an exceptional repertoire of
skills to deal with the unique features of the Jaguar,
especially the E-Type. In high school Dan pumped
gasoline and spent his summers working at THP
Race Engines, where engine-building for race cars

was the major service. He kept tinkering with the
E-Type at home. His first big job came after high
school at Suburban Auto; then at a Saturn dealership, right at the beginning of this new brand’s
launch. He returned to working on Jaguars at AC
Imports in Paletine, IL. It was the beginning of the
V-8 era of Jaguar with the XK8. For Dan it was a
great time for technical training by Jaguar; he was
sent all over the country to learn. He moved to
Imperial Motors in Wilmette, IL, where he received
formal Jaguar training in New Jersey as well as the
Chicago area. After a few years he left to work at
Imports Unlimited, in Highland Park, where he did
all the engine work on vintage cars. In 2008 the
downturn in the economy brought him a layoff
notice.
What to do? He had two infant boys and an EType, but no job. He had customers who followed
him from Highland Park so he began his business
out of his home garage. Word of mouth brought
him more customers until last year he opened up
his present facility. In fact, he has just expanded
into another bay because of the increasing work
load. He’s just taken over the adjacent unit in the
building.
Dan, a formally-trained Jaguar master
mechanic, does all levels of Jaguar work, from
concours level restorations to daily drivers. He
also has very deep knowledge of the Jaguar V-8
and thinks the Series III Jaguar may be the best
car and engine that Jaguar ever made. His shop
has extensive special Jaguar tools to work on
various models.
He also does
work on some
Bentley models.
Dan was able to
identify a
vibration
problem (at left)
with a Jaguar
engine.
Someone had
previously rebuilt an engine, installing a broken
piston.

His favorite car? Dan was torn between the AstonMartin DB5, the Jaguar XKE and a XK-140 roadster.

At the Jaguar AGM in Chandler, AZ. this March,
enthusiasts brought their Jags to the Concours held
in conjunction with the annual meeting. The current
issue of your Jaguar Journal includes extensive
coverage of this event.
Our cover photo for this issue is the 1991 Jaguar
XJR-15 racer positioned in the display area of the
concours. When I first saw it I was hooked. I think it
is right up there with the XJ13 as far as automotive
beauty goes, and … it probably is a lot faster.
The XJR-15 is considered Jaguar’s ultimate
supercar, and its athletic lines rank with those of the
fabled C-Type, D-Type and XJ13 in aesthetic appeal.
However, its shattering performance eclipses that of
its distinguished forebearers. Of the 50 cars
produced, only 23 were constructed to racing
specifications, and of those, chassis 011, this car,
remains an outstanding original and unmolested
example of only three examples in North America,

With a 450 bhp, 5,993 cc alloy, mid-rear
mounted Group C-specification V-12 engine
mounted in a car weighing just 2,315 pounds, which
is endowed with awesome handling, excellent
power-to-weight, race-proven reliability and a 215mph top speed, you might ask, “What did this cost?”
All this came at a price of nearly one million US
dollars. Oh …. there, probably was a real short
warranty also.
Now that we’re talking money, let’s get serious.
In case you want this baby, I believe this car went
through an auction during the 2011 Pebble Beach
Concours week. I didn’t research what the top price
was, but I believe the auction house was estimating
a value of $200,000 - $250,000. Now … is that a
deal or what? I bet it also has real low mileage and
it’s street legal. If you find out what it sold for,
please give me call or email.
