The Special Toy Catalogue has been created to provide parents, resource teachers, infant development workers and/or educational assistants with a helpful directory of toys and resources available through the Toy Library. The catalogue offers a picture, bar code, brief description and category of each toy available for loan. Categorizing the toys assists the borrower in determining what the toy is designed for: fine motor; gross motor; sensory; battery operated; communication; or switches and switch toys. The Special Toy Catalogue does not picture all the toys that are available for loan. The Ontario Early Years Toy Lending Library has a variety of toys and resources available for loan that support children in their learning and understanding of developmental skills. Please visit the Ontario Early Years Centre, and discover the possibilities in learning. Ontario Early Years Centre 72 Ross Street, Barrie, ON (705) 792-7878 Hours of Operation: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 9 am – 12 pm / 1 pm – 4 pm Wednesday: 9 am - 12 pm / 1 pm – 7 pm Friday: 9 am - 12 pm Saturday: 9 am - 1:00 pm II Toy Lending Library Information Handout We welcome you and your family as participants of the Toy Lending Library; we hope that your visits will be an enjoyable learning experience for both you and the children in your care. The Toy Lending Library is filled with carefully selected toys, books and resources, which help young children grow and develop to their full potential through play. The Toy Lending Library offers parents a library that contains a variety of parent education resources; the Parent Resource room is located across the hall from the Toy Lending Room. This is a free service. In order to provide you with the best possible service, we would greatly appreciate your assistance and cooperation in following the Toy Lending Procedures listed below. Thank you. • • • • • • • • All children from birth to 6 years of age are welcome to use the service. Parent/care provider must accompany children to the toy lending room. Each child may borrow one (1) toy and one (1) book per visit; Child Care Providers may borrow one (1) toy and one (1) book per child up to three (3) toys and as many books as children in care; Schools may borrow ten (10) toys and as many books as children using the service. Previously borrowed toys and books must be returned before borrowing another toy or book. All toys, books and parenting resources may be borrowed for a two (2) week period when borrowed from the main site. Toys, books and resources borrowed from the Toy Van may be borrowed for a 4 week period. If you or your child would like to keep the toy or resource borrowed for an additional length of time it may be renewed for an additional two (2) week period by calling the centre at 792-7878. If you like to do a toy exchange more often than the two (2) week lending period you may do so, as often as you like. The overdue fine for late toys and resources is ten cents ( .10) per day per toy/resource. It is important to keep the toys, books and resources in good lending condition to maintain their value. Should you lose or break a toy/toy piece while borrowed please notify program facilitator when the toy/resource is returned. If a toy/resource is broken or lost you may: 1. Bring a toy of equal play value from your home or school. 2. Pay to have the toy replaced; the age and state of the toy at the time it was borrowed will be taken in consideration, (a receipt may be issued upon request). 3. Purchase an identical new toy to replace the one broken or lost. The Toy Lending Library has a “Special Toy Selection” available to families and professionals who work with children with special needs. A program facilitator would be happy to assist you with additional information regarding this resource. If you are interested in borrowing the “Active Fun Kit” for a large group function (i.e.) Birthday Party, Family Picnic or Holiday Party, please call 726-0701ext 24; the supervisor at Sunny Park will be available to help you. We suggest you book this popular resource well in advance to avoid disappointment. For additional information regarding the Ontario Early Years Centre programs please see the monthly newsletter.
