Luigi’s Restaurant Brings Gino’s Heritage to Gonzales
Luigi’s may be the newest restaurant in
the Salinas Valley, but it arrives with a
long and illustrious heritage. It all began
in 1971, when Luigi Bozzo and his young
family emigrated from Cosenza, Italy, to
the United States. Seven new immigrants,
none of whom could speak a word of English. But they had determination and shared

the American dream. That dream led them
first to San Jose and then, in 1975, to
Salinas where Luigi was able to open a
restaurant of his own. They called it
“Gino’s,” after his nickname. It was familystyled and family run. Unfortunately, Luigi
and his wife Angelina have passed on, but
Gino’s continues to be run by their children and has been a favorite family restaurant in Salinas for nearly 40 years.
Now the Bozzo Family brings their passion for fine food and friendly service to a
new restaurant in Gonzales. Aptly it has
been named in honor of their father Luigi.
“Our family has been blessed to be a part
of this great country and the Salinas Valley,” said family spokesman Ralph Bozzo.
“Now we’re delighted that the folks of
Gonzales have welcomed us to their community. My father once said, ‘If I’m going
to run a restaurant, everything must be
fresh; and we must put out a simple dish at
a fair price.’ We’re honored to bring that
philosophy to Luigi’s in Gonzales,” Ralph
said. “We serve simple, good food, reasonably priced. Steaks, fresh seafood, pasta,
and fabulous pizza. Come in and let’s get
acquainted!” Luigi’s is in the center of
downtown Gonzales at 346 Alta Street
and serves lunch and dinner daily. Closed
Sundays. 
