Good Luck and Goodbye
At the end of this term we say goodbye to several members of staff.
Lynn Murison is retiring after an amazing 15 years at Yateley Manor as Head of Girls’
Games. Under her guidance, a generation of girls has learnt a love of sport and she
has fostered in them a sense of team spirit, enthusiasm and fair play. We will miss her
invaluable contribution to the school, both personally and professionally, but look forward to
welcoming her back for Wednesday afternoon matches.
Burny Murray, Head of Science, is also leaving us. Burny joined the school in 2002 and during
his time with us has guided the Science Department and taken a full role throughout the
school supporting sports, trips and the School House Charity. His experience, hard work,
dedication and unflappability will all be greatly missed and he leaves with our very best
wishes for the future .
Ron Hlabano came to Yateley Manor in 2005 and during his time with us has worked as a
Classroom Assistant in Reception and in Year 1. Children up to Year 5 remember Ron for
his kindness, gentleness and his enthusiasm for sport and football in particular. He will be
greatly missed and we wish him every success in his future career.
We are also saying goodbye to Year 3 teacher, Caroline Greatbatch, who joined us to cover
maternity leave and Claire Pope who has been with us only a short while in the Learning
Support Department. We will miss them and are very grateful for their contribution this year.
Both have our very best wishes for the future.
Sarah Fish, Laura Matthews, Kelly Edwards and Aaron Walters have been fantastic Gap
Students helping in so many ways in every department of the school. We are very grateful
to them all for their endless enthusiasm, hard work and good humour and are delighted that
their time at Yateley Manor has cemented the desire of Sarah, Kelly and Laura to become
teachers. In September the three girls start on their teacher training courses and Aaron
begins his training as a physiotherapist. We wish all four of them the best of luck.
Gig on the Green
Yateley Manor played a significant part in Yateley’s first Gig on the Green.
Our two choirs were invited to sing at the event opening and both sang with energy and
enthusiasm. Manor Singers performed their popular rendition of Goldfinger complete with
dramatic presentation and the Pre-Prep choir sang Time on our Hands in three parts with
lively actions.
Lucy Webb, who had earlier been on stage with the choir, won the Age Category1
section of Y Factor. Singing Paloma Faith’s Upside Down, Lucy wowed the judges with her
beautifully sung and well choreographed performance and won the opportunity to spend
time in a recording studio as well as an invitation to take part in Gig on the Green in 2012! to
see Lucy’s performance click here:
Jamie Macfarlane also took part with his singing partner in the Battle of the Bands.
Have a Wonderful Summer
We wish all our pupils, staff and their families a wonderful summer break. Pupils return on

Early Years Funding
If your child was born between 1 September 2006 and 31 August 2008, they will be
eligible for the Hampshire County Council Early Years Funding in the autumn term, but
only if they will not be attending a state school (nursery, special or infant/primary, or unit
attached to any of these) between 5 September – 16 December 2011.
The information from Hampshire County Council, and claim forms, were not received
in time to mail to parents before the end of term but the full details will be sent to the
parents of eligible children during the holiday.
Road Works in Yateley
If you live near the school, you may have seen articles in the local press regarding the
planned closure of the B3272 Reading Road between Darby Green Road and the A30.
South East Water will be installing a new 600mm diameter water main along the road in
order to safeguard water supplies to a number of areas in Hampshire and Surrey.
The work is starting on 25th July but will continue until 28th November and will involve
completely closing sections of the Reading Road coming from the Camberley direction
throughout that period. The diversion will be along the A30 and then north along
Cricket Hill, so this is likely to suffer from increased congestion and longer journeys. Both
Reading Road and Cricket Hill are regularly used by parents travelling to school.
Please allow sufficient time for your extended journey, when we return in September.
Year 1 at Blue Reef Aquarium
Year 5 Bug Challenge
Year 5 concluded their Science and Art project on insects with a
fantastic ‘Bug Building’ competition. The children were put into
groups and set the challenge of building the best bug. Each group
was given a big bag of art and craft materials and invited to plan
and build their bug, as scientifically accurate as possible, using only
the materials provided.
In true ‘Art Attack’ style the children
were given one hour to build
the bug and record it’s progress
on a camera. The teamwork and
creativity of every group was
absolutely amazing. The children
were very mature in their approach
and quickly settled to their
allocated tasks, producing some
first class bugs. Hopefully many of
you have had chance to see their
results in Manor Court.
Year 2’s Adventure on Yateley Common
To conclude their topic on plants, animals and habitats, Year 2 walked to Yateley Common to participate in a nature trail with the
Rangers. In groups the children had to follow the clues located around the Common to spell a hidden word. Each group worked really
well together as a team.
The clues made the children think about life on the Common, for example, the difference between plants under the canopy and
plants in the open heathland. The children showed the Rangers their expertise by working out all the clues correctly and successfully
completing the challenge.
The groups met back at basecamp for a talk about Yateley Common by the Rangers. The children were able to hold real objects such as
deer antlers and snake skins. The Rangers commented on the exceptionally good behaviour and knowledge of the children. The Year 2
staff would like to thank the children for their participation and excellent behaviour, especially when walking to and from the Common;
everyone had a wonderful morning.
The Nursery Visit Birdworld
The Nursery visited Birdworld for their end of year outing. The weather was perfect and they had a great day. The children loved looking
at all the birds and animals, and there was great excitement when Nemo was spotted in Underwater World! Penguin Beach proved to
be very popular as was the Heron Theatre. and most of the children were brave enough to stroke the snake.
After a picnic lunch, there was time to explore Jenny Wren Farm and take a ride on the little land train, before heading to the coach for
our journey back to school. There were lots of nodding heads as we made our way back, it had been a very busy day. A big thank you to
all our parent helpers!
U11 Regional Cricket Tournament
On the Tuesday of Residential week our U11 County Cricket Champions respresented Hampshire in the regional round of the National
Championships.
We beat Ryde School from the isle of Wight as did Dragon School who were representing Oxfordshire. The Berkshire winners did not
attend the tournament. We therefore played Dragon School in the final to see which team would represent the region, in the final 8
teams in the country, at the National Finals..
We bowled well but did not manage to take many wickets. We batted, under pressure, in the driving rain and lost too many wickets. In
a pairs game like this, each wicket costs us minus 5 runs and we ended up falling short of the target by 15 runs.
The boys enjoyed representing Hampshire and were also grateful to be collected by Mr Williams and Mr Head and driven to Osmington
Bay to meet up with the rest of Year 6. Good effort boys. PD

Years 5, 6, 7 and 8 Residential Trips
Years 5, 6, 7 and 8 all had very successful trips during Residential week.
Year 7 travelled to the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset completing the field work for their Common Entrance Geography project. They carried
out studies on the villages of Swanage and Corfe, looked at the geology of the Jurassic coastline and visited Durlston County Park to
look at sustainability. A highlight of the trip was a tour of Corfe Castle and a steam train ride back to Swanage.
The other three year groups had PGL Adventure Weeks, Year 5 at Liddington, Year 6 at Osmington Bay and Year 8 at Beam House. The
pupils undertook a huge range of activities including abseiling, archery, giant swing, quad biking, orienteering, fencing, climbing,
aeroballing, canoeing, vertical challenge, body boarding and the favourite of the Year 8 group, the mud challenge!
The children (and staff ) all commented that the food was excellent in quality and just as importantly in quantity.
The weather, unfortunately, was not as perfect as we had hoped but it did not prevent everyone from having a wonderful time. Thank
you to all the staff who accompanied the groups and who, on occasions, were persuaded to join in some of the activities..
