2010
Welcome
— 2010 —
Presenting
Sponsors
Dear “Magic” Friends…
Thanks to your outstanding support last year, the 2009 “Magic Under the Mangroves”
gala event generated over $375,000 in support for the Conservancy of Southwest
Florida. That, my friends, is a record!
As we reflect back on that “magical” evening, the energy, excitement and passion
permeated every inch of the room during the entire event. You, and the new friends
you introduced to “Magic Under the Mangroves,” made this a night to cherish.
But, as you know, “Magic” is more than a one night gala. In fact, the funds support
the year-round work of the Conservancy of Southwest Florida to protect our natural
lands, our water and our wildlife. Your support and commitment preserve our
paradise for future generations.
We are counting on your generous support once again this year and invite you to
introduce even more new friends to “Magic” and to the Conservancy of Southwest
Florida. We encourage you, and your guests, to bid HIGH and bid OFTEN on many
exciting excursions, treasures, travel and more!
Betty MACLean Travel, Inc.
Remember to bring your auction catalog to the event on March 4th. To preserve our
natural resources, we only printed a limited quantity — catalogs won’t be available at
the “Magic” event.
Please call Meghan Clancy to pre-bid or if you need more information, 239.403.4200.

Private Candy Cooking Class with Norman
Love for 20
Donated by Norman Love Confections
Donated by Natural Habitat Adventures and Betty Maclean Travel, Inc.
From the warmth of your unique mobile
tundra vehicle, you will enjoy hours watching
the polar bears interact, delighted by their
antics and rugged beauty. In the evenings,
dinner is often followed by presentations on
wildlife or local cultures. If the skies are clear,
the nighttime tundra excursion might provide
one of nature’s most exhilarating experiences
– a chance to view the Northern Lights away
from the glare of town.
During this Molded Candies Cooking Class,
Norman and three chefs will educate you on
the delicious process of making his gourmet
confections. During your behind the scenes
experience, you will learn to hand paint a
mold, cast it with chocolate and make the
creamy ganache to fill the candies. Your
homework assignment: enjoy the tasteful
treats you handmade during your delectable
experience! During the class, fine wines will
be accompanied by scrumptious appetizers,
a combination of salty and sweet treats to
compliment the decadent flavors of the
chocolate.

Seven Day Classic Polar Bear Adventure for Two
This flagship polar bear tour has been the
most popular Natural Habitat Adventures
trip. Its longstanding success is due to
the extraordinary polar bear viewing
opportunities afforded to travelers as well as
the broad introduction to life in the North
over the course of a seven-day adventure.
Twenty friends will experience a delicious
culinary adventure with the famous Norman
Love, who recently received the honor of
one of the “Top 10 Chocolatiers in North
America” by Dessert Magazine. A limousine
van will transport you and your guests
to Norman’s salon and chocolate factory
headquartered in Ft. Myers.
Norman has made numerous appearances
on the Discovery Channel’s “Great Chefs”
series and his desserts have graced the
covers of Art Culinaire, Pastry & Baking and
other prominent culinary publications.
He is also a contributing author to four
books including Baking with Julia. He is the
co-founder of the National Pastry Team
Championship and a regular guest judge on
the Food Network Challenge series.

A full-time veterinarian will help improve the animal care at the Wildlife Clinic.
Thanks to generous endowment gifts to the “Saving Southwest Florida” Campaign,
we will have a full-time veterinarian on staff at the Conservancy Wildlife Rehabilitation
Clinic --- two years from now.
You can help bring the full-time veterinarian on-staff ONE YEAR SOONER through
your participation in LIVE-FUND-A-VET portion of the Live Magic Auction.
“Over the years, our volunteer veterinarians have graciously donated their assistance,”
according to Joanna Fitzgerald, Conservancy Wildlife Clinic director. “But many of our
patients are never seen by a vet due to time and resource constraints.”
Joanna continues, “An on-staff vet will give us the ability to improve the care for
our wildlife. Our animals will have immediate access to on-the-spot advanced care,
improving their chances for survival and release. This would be a dream come true!”
The amount of money we raise during this FUND-A-VET portion of the Live Magic
Auction will determine how soon we can bring a vet on our staff! The more money
we raise, the sooner a full-time vet can join our Wildlife Clinic team!

M S . ELLI N GOET Z
Honorary Chair
2010 Eagle Award Recipient
The desire to protect and preserve
the environment bloomed early in
Ellin Goetz. As a child growing up
on Staten Island, NY, her parents
were involved in a movement to
protect the island’s Greenbelt from
development and road construction.
The group stopped the development
and ensured the Greenbelt’s
2,800-acres were designated as city
parklands.

The Campaign Countdown Has Begun
As a successful landscape architect
and a lifelong supporter of
environmental preservation,
Ms. Goetz is a Collier County
community leader who has championed
a number of vital environmental causes,
including Vote Conservation 2002
and Keep Conservation Collier, both
established to acquire and protect
Collier County’s wild spaces.
Ellin Goetz is a former Chair of the Conservancy Board of Directors and is a
member of the Conservancy Chairman’s Advisory Council. The extraordinary
community partnerships in Naples are special to Ms. Goetz – she believes that
commitment has been key to the success of many projects.
The Eagle Award is the highest award presented annually by the Conservancy of
