This fifth installment of IMATS Sydney is slated for Sept. 21-22 at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour. Three top-tier keynote speakers will share their experiences working on location and behind the scenes. Oscar winner Joel Harlow (The Lone Ranger, Star Trek, all four Pirates of the Caribbean films) brings a bit of Hollywood glamour to IMATS as he discusses working with regular client Johnny Depp. Editorial artist Dale Dorning—an author, educator and Australian Make-up Artist of the Year candidate— has made up pop-music and real-life royalty; he’ll share his beauty expertise, as will fellow author/educator and International Make-Up Artist Trade Show Sydney WHAT: celebrity beauty artist Rae Morris, whose credits range from Rolling Stone to the fashion Sept. 21-22, 2013 WHEN: runways. WEBSITE: imats.net Emmy-winning artist Eve Pearl, who founded the Eve Pearl cosmetics line and whose credits include Saturday Night Live, InStyle and Vanity Fair, is the third featured speaker. IMATS Sydney is also a great place to shop: 30 of the best make-up and effects brands will show and sell the latest make-up products and tools. Make-up pieces from film and television will be displayed in the IMATS Make-up Museum. And in the Battle of the Brushes student make-up competitions, students will race against the clock to create winning looks and take home trophies, cash and prizes. The beauty category is themed The Elements, while the character category will have an Oz theme. This is the last year—at least for a while—that IMATS Sydney will be held in this venue, which is set to undergo construction next year. In 2014, the show will move to the Royal Hall of Industries in the city’s Centennial Parklands. In addition to the Sydney show, IMATS is held in Los Angeles in January; New York in April; London in June; Vancouver, British Columbia in July; and Toronto in November.
