This “Main Street across America” traversed 12 states, from New York City to San Francisco. In Marshall County, it went through the cities of LeGrand, Marshalltown, LaMoille and State Center. in 1853. Cochrane, Chicago, a prominent designer of this style of building. Constructed in 18841886. Changes keep with the building’s original design. Tours by appointment. In July 2003 a statue of Marshalltown’s city founder, Henry Anson, was placed on the courthouse lawn in celebration of Marshalltown’s 150th Birthday. This statue holds a time capsule from the city’s sesquicentennial year and will be opened in 2053.
