Stripping penstocks with high-pressure water jets Technical efficiency, without enviromental issues • 90 % reduction in disposal costs by filtering out all solids • Shorter standstill times • Even removes spray galvanised coats • Suitable for helicopter transportation Sodian Group The service sector ‘high-pressure water jet technology’ within the Sodian Group as a whole has several dozen high-pressure cleaning vehicles and a total installed power of more than 10,000 kW, a dozen material removal robots and various specialist vehicles for the processing of large areas. We specialise in stripping penstocks with general focus on stripping steel surfaces. The high-pressure water jet firms of the Sodian group belong to the few powerful European companies who, under one roof, quintessentially dominate the three classic areas of high-pressure water cleaningconsisting of stripping, concrete, and industrial cleaning. When using the extreme pressure waterjetting procedure, we take into account a wide variety of process parameters such as pump pressure, volume flow per minute, nozzle equipment, feed rate or working distance to the coated surface. That is why we can remove even spray galvanised coats completely right down to the steel base! Winch • Up to 7.5 tons tensile force • Up to 15 meters feed per hour Given its impressive economical and economical benefits, this procedure is set to become even more important in the future and become the new standard in corrosion protection treatment for water loaded steel surfaces. • Travel up to 2,000 meters Winch Pipe crawlers • For pipe diameters between 300 and 5,000 mm • Operation with 2, 4 or 8 nozzle Pipe crawler A pipe-cleaning robot with several rotating nozzle arms designed specifically for the job is pulled through the penstock with a slow-running special winch Pipe crawler Central Control and monitoring • Winch movement control, pay out and return • Working pressure • rotation and rotation speed of the nozzle arms • Feed- standstill control All parameters documented and saved in an external database! Work progress monitoring via Internet connection Central control and monitoring Results • Solids filtered out completely • 90 % reduction in disposal costs Only the quantity of old coating layer and the prime coat have to be disposed of (pellets). The industrial water and solids (rust, prime coat and topcoats) are directed to a mobile water treatment plant, where the industrial water is separated continuously from the solids via a multi-chamber filter system and pelletizing apparatus. The clean industrial water free from sediments can be fed back to the high-pressure pump or into the sewage system as required. Partial removal of the zinc-base primer _ Complete removal of the prime coat and topcoat Pellet = Hazardous substances are removed completely and pelletized • Filter performance up to 150 litres per minute • With pelletizing apparatus • No discernable suspended sediment content in the filtered industrial water Complete removal of the bituminous coating and zinc-base primer Water treatment plant Helicopter transportation The entire high-pressure system can be dismantled into individual components and is suitable for helicopter transportation. The maximum weight of the individual system and machine components is 1,800 kg. Result on-site Facts Development time 5 years Benefits • solids are filtered out completely. Only the actual quantity of old coating layer quantity and the prime coat have to be disposed of (no water or sand) • All coating types and thicknesses can be stripped right down to the steel base in one process. • No worker has to enter the line for the stripping process (hazardous substance site) • The maximum connected cleaning line covers 1,600 meters. Stripping performance Bitumen coating and zinc-base primer 15 bis 30 m²/machine hours Epoxy and zinc-base primer 20 bis 30 m²/machine hours Bitumen coat and spray zinc 15 bis 20 m² /machine hours The longest connected cleaning line – stripping 1,600 meters complete stripping February 2008 in Stalden Implementation of the SGU – SCC policy (occupational-) Safety, Health and Environment protection The key benefits of high-pressure waterjet technology compared with traditional corrosion protection treatment with dry sand blast material: • General improvement of working conditions when working with hazardous substances • Taking into account the state of technology with a key focus on minimising water impurities • Elimination or reduction of dangerous situations via linking technology, work conditions and environmental influences • Reduced risks when working with hazardous substances such as asbestos, PCB (polychlorinated biphenyls), PCP (pentachlorophenol) or PAKs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) • Reduced risk to health with the same output result • Workers exposed to hazardous substances are restricted to only those essential to the actual treatment process • Drastic reduction in the hazardous substances to be disposed of. Only the actual quantity of old coating layer and the prime coat have to be disposed of • The operator can have his system in operation again more quickly • Massive reduction in environmental impact Additional business fields of the Sodian Group Magnet crawler stripping for large surface areas including suction and water treatment Surface cleaner stripping for large surface areas including suction and water treatment Additional business fields of the Sodian Group: • Stripping of penstocks with high-pressure waterjet technology and built-in water treatment • High-pressure waterjet process as subcontractor in construction and concrete repair • Industrial cleaning with high-pressure waterjet technology • Stripping and demarcation of road markings with large surface cleaners and built-in waste water treatment • Removal of tyre abrasion on airport runways with large surface cleaners and built-in waste water treatment
