IHYC FLOATING FRIEND-”SHIPS” FOR 53 YEARS
Volume 53 Issue 6
June 2016
The Commodore's Comments Commodore Captain Ken Burgio
Thank you to those that stepped up
to run the Mother’s Day Brunch. It
was great to see the members of
IHYC come together and host this
event again.
We are hoping for great weather
for the Boat Blessing. As long as I
am not running the party the day should be beautiful!
Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the Cotter will be
able to make the trip this year. Please remember to
also support the pancake breakfast.
Speaking of boats, with boating season officially upon
us there are many good times and fun adventures that
lie ahead. It’s always fun when you meet up with fellows boaters, so I encourage you to share your weekend plans with the IHYC membership. Spread the word
on where you plan on boating – I’m sure many people
will appreciate the invite. You know how the saying
goes, “the more, the merrier”!
We are having a comedy show on Saturday, September
24th. There will be 3 comedians and the headliner will
be Nick Siracuse. Please see the flyer for details. There
is a lot of hype and buzz already stirring around the club
about our comedy
night, so get your
tickets early before it sells out.
I’m sure it will be an awesome
night!

On a final note, the playground will be installed this

fun! See you around the Club!

From Your President
Once again I must begin my newsletter with giving kudos to our
Fleetmates Becky Ensminger and
Amanda Dudek, along with their
crew, for the wonderful job they
did with the men’s brunch for Flag
Raising. Thank you for making the
day great for the men!
Don’t forget to keep selling tickets for the Grand Jacuzzi
Package at Salvatore’s! There is still time to sell plenty of
tickets, as the drawing will be held on September 17th during our Red Flannel Cruise. If you need additional tickets
please contact Nancy Myszka. Thank you for supporting
the Women’s Auxiliary fundraising event!
Pie or dessert donations are needed for the monthly Fish
Fry on Friday, June 3rd, so please donate if you can! The
annual Boat Blessing is on Sunday, June 5th, with a pancake breakfast in the morning and a picnic in the afternoon. Please bring a dish to pass to the picnic.
Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, June 21st. Since it is
our last meeting before summer break we will be having
food at 6:30 PM, followed by the meeting at 7:00 PM, and
ending with a paint night hosted by our very own Tara
Hudson at 7:30 PM. We will be painting a picture of an
anchor, or you can choose to paint a glass of your choice
(mug, wine glass, stemless wine glass, or beer glass). The
cost to participate is $20 for painting a glass, $20 for

Fish Fry—Eric Mowry
It was good to see some familiar faces at the May fish fry.
We did pretty well and served 127 satisfied customers!
May was the last month that we served soup, so you’ll
have to wait until the fall for its return. It seemed to be
successful overall.
Due to some changes in the club membership, I have a
bunch of new positions that need to be filled on a couple
of the teams. Teams 1 & 3 need the dishwasher positions filled and we are still looking for a middle fryer on
Team 2. Again, to those who are not on a team to please
consider joining. It’s actually a good time and the teams
all seem to have fun. The time you donate to help out
the club works out to about 12 hours a year. Team 3 will
need someone to fill in as a fryer in July due to vacations.
Please help out the club!
Team 2 is up June 3rd so stop in and support your club
and we look forward to seeing you then.

What’s in a Boat Name?
BoatUS Releases 2016’s Top Ten Boat Names
PAGE 7
Mother’s Day Brunch Chefs
ALEXANDRIA. Va., May 18, 2016 -- A boat name can reveal
much about the personality of a boat owner. Are they into
fishing? Reel Therapy on the boat’s transom certainly
shows it. Do they have kids in school? What College Fund?
says it best. Like to sing? In Harmony is a popular choice.
Work in the finance industry?. Liquid Assets is suitable.
Regardless of lifestyles, families or careers, choosing a
name can be difficult. To help boaters with this task, Boat
Owners Association of The United States (BoatUS) offers a
list of over 9,000 boat names given by boaters across the
country over the last 20 years, and today officially releases
it’s 2016 list of Top Ten Boat Names. They are:
1. Happy Ours
2. Freedom
3. Grace
4. Serendipity
5. Island Time
6. No Regrets
7. Liberty
8. At Last
9. Blue Moon
10. Aqua holic
“Happy Ours may be the most popular boat on a Friday
night at the marina,” said BoatUS Boat Graphics Manager
Greg Edge. “Names like Freedom and Liberty show boaters’ patriotic side, but they also like their boat names to
remind themselves to slow down and relax, such as the
ever-popular Island Time.”
