A Story of Quality
FRANCE

FRANCE
Among the world’s wine producing countries, France has held
the highest profile throughout history. Our entire concept of fine
wine was born in France. Its systems of classification for quality
and identity have defined the global standard for wine and
disseminated a message of pedigree that has established some
of France’s best-known wines as benchmarks of their types.
In France’s northernmost wine district, Champagne is the
standard against which the world’s sparkling wines are
measured. Great Burgundies have helped Pinot Noir and
Chardonnay take their place at the top of the wine world’s
vine hierarchies. In Beaujolais, Gamay produces wines for
aging and ready-to-enjoy wines with equal facility. Rhône’s
Grenache and Syrah and Loire’s Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin
Blanc and Cabernet Franc make a broad range of wines, from
robust reds to vibrant rosés, from elegant, crisp whites to
lively sparkling wines. As with gastronomy, in the world of
wine, France’s regional identities are stories rich in diversity,
variety and supreme quality.

BURGUNDY
Since the second century, few wine regions have attained the stature
of Burgundy, which is composed of the subregions: Côte d’Or, Côte
Chalonnaise, Mâconnais, Beaujolais and outlying Chablis, 65 miles
northwest of the Côte d’Or. Burgundy’s terroir forms the basis of
its complex classification system, where vineyards are separated into
appellations from the broadest to the most specific designation,
which names the wine. In ascending order, District, e.g. Bourgogne,
is the name of the wine’s region; Villages, e.g. Chambolle-Musigny
AC, contains the name of the wine’s village; Premier Cru names the
wine’s vineyard within a village, e.g. Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les
Amoureuses; and atop the hierarchy, Grand Cru contains only the
name of the wine’s vineyard, e.g. Le Musigny Grand Cru.

Château des Jacques
Origin: Beaujolais
Located in the Moulin-à-Vent
appellation and owned since 1996
by Louis Jadot, Château des Jacques
is widely recognized as the most
prestigious estate in Beaujolais. It
produces world-class wines from
196 acres in the Moulin-à-Vent
and Morgon crus.
•Crafted by Guillaume
de Castelnau
•Winemaking practices have
helped revolutionize Beaujolais
winemaking and raise the
profile of the region
•Uses Burgundian winemaking
methods to create complex wines
capable of long aging
•Many vineyards farmed biodynamically
•Long macerations take one month, compared to the region’s typical
10-12 days. Wild yeast fermentations take longer and oak barrel
aging lends complexity
