Walkers and runners are both welcome. Every 0.62 of a mile there are “color stations” where volunteers throw colored cornstarch on the participants, turning them into lovely, colorful running works of art. Save the date and look for more information to come on our website. someone’s life. Far too often people passing by New Horizons comment about the number of people waiting in line for our food pantry, soup kitchen or homeless shelter. Because there is no place to wait, clients are forced to stand in line through all kinds of weather. Our goal for the new-year is to design and build an indoor waiting area that will be constructed in a portion of our food pantry. This will involve a reconfiguring of the present pantry set up. The project will be costly and to kick off our fundraising for this waiting area, the Singer family from Merchants Automotive is contributing $25,000. It is our hope that other individuals, families and businesses will step forward to assist us in making this renovation a reality. If you are interested in contributing either financial or in kind support, please contact Development Director Michelle Casale at 668-1877 ex. 125. NEWHORIZONSFORNH.ORG EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S CORNER 2 As we approach the end of 2013 and look ahead to 2014 I want to thank all of you for your support of this organization that helps so many in our community. During the holidays, we are all bombarded with advertisements promoting the latest and greatest electronic devices and toys and games that we can’t live without. Everywhere we turn there are sales going on and people rushing off to do their holiday shopping. Here at New Horizons we see folks who are more concerned with feeding themselves and their families than they are with shopping for gifts. We see people who are thankful for a place to sleep and a hot shower. To them that is a gift that means the most. Although we continue to hear that the economy is improving, the number of individuals and families seeking services at New Horizons is increasing. In order to meet the demand we are working harder than ever to raise the necessary funds to meet the need. We can only do this with your help. As you and your families prepare for this holiday season, please take a moment to think of those in our community who are less fortunate. Your tax deductible donation in any amount will help us to help our friends and neighbors who are in need. 20th Annual Thanksgiving Breakfast This year’s breakfast was our most successful one on record! This was a much needed improvement which had been on our to-do list for years. The design and installation was handled by Marc Cantin Cabinetry. This newly renovated kitchen better meets the needs of the 17 residents by providing them with a functioning, efficient space that can more easily accommodate them during mealtime. The renovation was completed in October and the residents are raving about how wonderful it is! Thank you so much to The Bean Foundation for its generosity! 3 1. Prior to the big day, a number of projects were mapped out so everyone would be ready to go first thing in the morning. The hard working group built much needed shelves, painted our handicapped bedroom as well as the bathrooms and other areas that were in need of freshening up, they cleaned out the cellar and turned a little used crafts room into a computer room for clients of Angie’s. During the lunch break, a bar-b-que was held and the brand new gas grill that was used to prepare lunch was donated to Angie’s. It truly was a day of caring by the wonderful employees from Merchants Automotive. 9 10 12 Men’s and Women’s socks Men’s backpacks Twin sheets and blankets Bath towels Men’s boots Size large and up men’s hoodies Bus passes Men’s and Women’s gloves THIS YEAR +75% Meals Served To Children +10% Meals Served To Senior Citizens 11
