Set the stroke jumper to match the valve stroke, this setting is approximate. Jumper location is as depicted below: VA-7202-xx01 and VA-7242-xx01 Stroke selection jumpers (J5): Jumper 8: 8mm Jumper 10: 10mm Jumper 13: 13mm Jumper 19: 19mm Starting point Stroke fine adjustment Models with hand wheel only Span value Action selection Failsafe input signal VA-7206-xx01 and VA-7246-xx01 STROKE Models with hand wheel only J5 8 10 13 19 4 2 0 VA-7222-xx01 and VA-7252-xx01 64 8 2 START V J3 J7 1 2 3 4 Models with hand wheel only 0/10 VDC 0/20 mA 24 Com 6 A J1 J2 DOWN 10 SPAN DA RA UP LED 24 Com VA-7272-xx01 VA-72x2 and VA-72x6 PCB Components E11 8 VA-7200 7 The V / A jumper (J3) allows selection of the input signal type as follows: Volts Set the direct / reverse action jumper (J1) so that the valve stem travels in the desired direction (as per changes in control signal) mA • DA (J1 top jumper) stem extends on signal increase. • RA (J1 bottom jumper) stem retracts on signal increase. When the voltage input range (J3) is set the DOWN / UP jumper (J2) allows selection of the actuator “failsafe” stem position as follows: DOWN UP Note: Disconnecting J7 from PCB, the power supply is interrupted. Therefore the plug must be in place for actuator operation. 2. 3. Select voltage (V) or current (mA) input signal to match the controller output (if the input signal selection jumper is removed the actuator defaults to voltage input). Note: When mA input is selected, multiply the “start” and “span” scales by two. 4. Set the signal fail default position to “fully up”, or “fully down”, if the actuator control signal is lost i.e. an open connection, the actuator will default to this pre-designated position. Note: When mA input is selected, the actuator will default to the “low” input signal position. 5. Adjust the potentiometers to the nominal values. Set the stroke fine adjustment to midpoint. Set the starting point (offset) to the “low” input signal using the scale printed on the PCB as a reference. Set the span value to the “high” input signal minus the offset; see table below. Use the scales for reference. 6. Apply the voltage specified by application (RA / DA) requirements to drive the actuator to the “fully up” position using the following table. (If mA input is selected, multiply all values by two). Calibration values Actual Minimum 0 0 5 Maximum 10 5 10 Reference Minimum 1 1 6 Maximum 9 4 9 Note: Using the calibration values (± 0.5 V) will ensure proper close-off throughout the life of the valve (takes seat wear into account). If the application requires values other than those given, use the minimum actual value + 1 V and the maximum actual value - 1 V to determine the reference values. • • DA: “fully up” (min. voltage) RA: “fully up” (max. voltage) When the actuator is in operation the LED will illuminate. E11 8 VA-7200 7. Slowly turn the starting point potentiometer clockwise until the valve stem reaches stroke limit, when the valve stem is in the “fully up” position (the LED will be illuminated and there should be no gear movement). 8. Slowly turn the starting point potentiometer anti-clockwise, stop when the LED flashes or goes out. Note: The actuator electronics contain a time-out feature. If calibration takes longer than 3…10 minutes, the LED will extinguish, falsely indicating a satisfactory condition. Should this occur, cycle the power to the actuator and readjust the starting point. 9. Apply the input voltage requirements specified by the application (RA / DA) to drive the valve stem to the “fully down” position as per chart in step 6. 10. To ensure that the valve stem is in the “fully down” position, slowly turn the stroke potentiometer clockwise until the valve stem reaches stroke limit (the LED will be on and there should be no gear movement). 11. Slowly turn the stroke potentiometer anticlockwise, until the LED extinguishes. 12. If the “fully down” position cannot be achieved, return the stroke potentiometer to the nominal position and then slowly turn the span potentiometer anti-clockwise until “fully down” is achieved. Repeat step 11. 13. Adjust the voltage to drive the actuator to “fully up” position. Verify starting point adjustment. 14. Check for proper operation using the min. and max. operating voltages. Allow the actuator to complete several operating cycles. Note: The LED will remain illuminated for 3…10 minutes after the actuator has completed its operation cycle. 15. Refit the cover and secure the screws. The unit is now ready for operation. JCI Regelungstechnik GmbH Westendhof 8 45143 Essen Telephone xx49 (0)201 / 2400-0 A 149 Actuators SDI-No.: Issue date: 111 6271 050 E Storage: • Storage temperature -20°C to 65°C, keep dry and free of dirt. • Do not damage the lacquer, which is a foundation intended only as a protection against corrosion while in storage and during transport. • In rooms where moisture or condensation are present use heating or a drying agent to maintain moisture free atmosphere. Transport: • Transport temperature -20°C to 65°C. • Protect against external forces (shock, Vibration etc.). • Do not damage the protective lacquer. Installation site information: The valve installation site should be easily accessible and provide sufficient room for service and removal of actuators. Manual shut-off valves should be located up and downstream of the control valve, to facilitate service and repairs without draining the piping system. The control valve should preferably be installed vertically with the actuator installed in the upright position. When carrying out inclined to horizontal installation of actuators the stanchions must be aligned vertically one above the other. Pipelines should be insulated to protect actuators against high temperatures; here sufficient room is to be left for servicing the stem seal pack. For trouble free function of the control valve the pipe immediately upstream of the valve should be straight for the length of at least 2x DN and the pipe immediately downstream for the length of at least 6x DN. Actuator mounting-and removal information: The control valve is normally supplied complete with actuator. It is not permitted to remove or replace an actuator on systems in operation, under operating temperature and pressure. When servicing or carrying out a conversion, the actuator mounting procedure should follow the actuator SDI. During mounting procedure the plug should NOT be rotated with downward pressure. Ensure adherence to max. valve operating forces for actuator replacement. Actuator removal: In addition to general mounting guidelines and TRB 700 the following points should be observed: • • • • • Pressure free pipe system Cooled fluid Drained pipe system With corrosive or aggressive fluids the pipe system should be vented. Work to be performed by qualified personnel only. Caution: Electrical wiring must be in conformance with directives for high-voltage installations; Line voltage and frequency must be identical with data on the product nameplate. Voltage supply line wiring: 2 Wire gauge min. 1mm . Voltage supply-line fuse: max. 6A, 2A at 24V, observe DIN VDE 116! Electrical isolation: Prior to the removal of the actuator cover, e.g. for mechanical maintenance and adjustment, supply voltage supply must be disconnected by means of an isolation switch, safeguarded against inadvertent operation. Electrical connection: • Select conduit adapter in accordance with DIN 46320, to match cable diameter. Lead cable through the conduit adapter to the respective terminals, and then remove insulation from wire tips. Wires must be routed or fastened so that they are protected against damage by moving or rotating parts and removal or replacement of the actuator cover. • Fasten ground wire to ground terminal. When the signal is removed the clutch remains static between linear and rotary motion. This provides a stable stroke position until the controller sends signal for actuator stem to retract. The motor runs in a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction dependant on the signal from the controller. Jumpers enable the setting of; field or factory stroke settings, the actuator action DA or RA and “signal fail” position. Models with 2kΩ feedback potentiometer have a resistance range proportional to the stroke i.e. 50% stroke = 50% resistance, Models with 0-10V potentiometer require a 15V DC supply for the 0-10V signal All models with hand wheel and 24V are provided with a power cut-off switch. Set the 0.5V input signal with the start-point potentiometer. The potentiometer must be adjusted in small steps. When the red LED illuminates constantly the actual 0.5V has been achieved. This assures that enough actuator thrust is being produced and the actuator has reached the end position. • Set the reference value to 1V, the actuators stem extends. When the actual value of 1V has been achieved the LED is extinguished. So one is assured that the adjustment has been carried out correctly. • With a 9.5V input signal and a 9V span the valve must travel entire stroke length. Adjusting a two-way PDTC valve • Set the reference value of 0.5V the actuators stem extends. Set the 0.5V input signal with the start-point potentiometer. The potentiometer must be adjusted in small steps. When the red LED illuminates constantly the actual 0.5V has been achieved. This assures that enough actuator thrust is being produced and the actuator has reached the end position. • Set the reference value to 1V, the actuators stem retracts. When the actual value of 1V has been achieved the LED is extinguished. So one is assured that the adjustment has been carried out correctly. With a 9.5V input signal and a 9V span the valve must travel entire stroke length. Adjusting inlet 1 of a mixing valve Adjusting outlet 2 of a diverting valve (bypass) • Set the reference value of 9.5V the actuators stem retracts. Set the 9.5V input signal with the start-point potentiometer. The potentiometer must be adjusted in small steps. When the red LED illuminates constantly the actual 9.5V has been achieved. This assures that enough actuator thrust is being produced and the actuator has reached the end position. • Set the reference value to 9V, the actuators stem extends. When the actual value of 9V has been achieved the LED is extinguished. So one is assured that the adjustment has been carried out correctly. Adjusting inlet 2 of a mixing valve Adjusting a outlet 1 of a diverting valve • Set the reference value of 0.5V the actuators stem retracts. Set the 0.5V range with the span potentiometer. The potentiometer must be adjusted in small steps. When the red LED illuminates constantly the actual 0.5V has been achieved. This assures that enough actuator thrust is being produced and the actuator has reached the end position. • Set the reference value to 1V the actuators stem retracts. When the actual value of 1V has been achieved the LED is extinguished. So one is assured that the adjustment has been carried out correctly.
