The Preservation Hall Jazz Band brings the spirit of the Big Easy to
Open Borders! The Preservation Hall Jazz Band, a jazz ensemble
that Rolling Stone magazine once called “the past and promise of
American music,” has become both a fixture of New Orleans and
an ambassadorial representative of the city it calls home. Under the
auspices of current director, Ben Jaffe, the son of founders Allan
and Sandra Jaffe, Preservation Hall continues with a deep reverence and consciousness of its greatest attributes in the modern day

The Music Under the Stars series continues with jazz-blues singer
Barbara Morrison. The dazzling Barbara Morrison has dazzled fans
of a wide array of genres from traditional Jazz and Blues to Gospel
and Pop. Her melodic voice, with its two-and-a-half-octave range,
is known worldwide, as are her rich, unique, soulful and highly
spirited interpretations of both, familiar Jazz and Blues classics
and original contemporary tunes. Equally as striking is Ms. Morrison’s ability to belt out down-home, soul-stirring Blues. Her impassioned renditions of old and favorite torch songs are nothing short

Twist: An American Musical at the
Pasadena Playhouse

TWIST - An American Musical is a timely adaptation of Charles
Dickens’ classic with a contemporary score, set in New Orleans on
the eve of the Great Depression. TWIST tells the story of a young
orphan boy born of a courageous white mother and an incredibly
talented black father, who navigates the colorful and sometimes
rough waters of street life and racial intolerance in his quest to find
his family and to find love. American Idol finalist Tamyra Gray will
play the role of Della. Show time is 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday,

The free shows are part of the band’s 26th season of summer concerts. The Camarillo Community Band is open to any adult who
plays a band instrument. We require attendance at the rehearsals

The 18th Annual Oxnard Salsa
Festival at Plaza Park
Friday, July 29 through Sunday, July 31
at Fifth and C Streets, in Oxnard
Presented by the Oxnard Downtowners, this award-winning,
family-friendly festival features many of Southern California’s
most electrifying salsa and Latin bands, non-stop salsa dancing,
marketplace shopping, the spicy Salsa Tasting Tent, international
foods, Kids Korner activities, a recipe contest and salsa dance performances. Festival admission and parking are free. No pets or
coolers are permitted on-site. This year, the celebration begins
early with a new Friday Night Kick-off Concert (paid concert) on
July 29, featuring the Susie Hansen Latin Band, playing from 7
p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets for the Friday night concert lawn seating are
$5 per person and can be purchased on-site. Groups of six can preorder reserved tables for $75 on the festival website. Come early to
dine in downtown Oxnard, or bring a picnic to enjoy al fresco. The
gates open at 5:30 p.m. The Festival Main Stage entertainment runs
continuously from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
Performing are Orquesta Charangoa, Angel Lebron y Su Sabor Latino, Orquesta Son Mayor, Phil Robinson and Sonora Borinquena
(pictured left), the Janeen Puente Orchestra (pictured right), and
Orquesta Tabaco y Ron. “Dancing with Our Community Stars” will
be held on Sunday at 1 p.m. In this salsa-twist on the hit TV show,
local “stars” are paired upwith the region’s best salsa instructors
